Personal Narrative: The First AFL-NFL World Championship Game
The first AFL-NFL world championship game is being held today at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Kickoff starts soon, and the Kansas City Cheifs and the Green Bay Packers are coming off great regular seasons. This should be a good day for football, the tempeture is 72 degrees fahrenheit with clear blue skies. Reffere Norm Schachter tosses the coin in the air and Green Bay calls heads. It turns out to be heads! The Packers decide to recive the ball, so the cheifs kicker Mike Mercer lines up to kickoff and the first ever AFL-NFL world championship game begins!

The game is off to a slow start as both teams punt on there first possesion. I must say though, Len Dawson and Bart Starr are looking good. However both defenses aren't budging an inch, now the Packers are moving up field in this impressive second drive! Touchdown! Bart Starr throws to receiver Max McGee for the first score of the game. After a sucsessful field goal the Packers are up seven to nothing. The cheifs answer back moving the ball 66 yards in just six plays! Were all tied up seven to seven. But on the next drive Packers move the ball 73 yards downfield to take back the lead. The crowds roar in this coliseum is deafening, I can barely hear my own thoughts. Now, the Cheifs trying to get some momentum

Whatever it was it definitely worked, Packers dominated the third quarter putting up 14 unanswered points. The cheifs are clearly trying to muster up a comeback, but to me they look tired and defeated. The Packers seal the deal when they get another touchdown in the fourth quarter, making the score 35 to 10 Packers win! Nobody expected the Cheifs to win but personaly I though they put up more of a fight then I expected. Overall, this was a fine game and I hope they do more of these in the future. Next time I suggest they use the name Super bowl, just rolls off the tounge better I

The defense put a strangle hold on the triple-option run threat of the Navy Midshipmen and held them to 147 rushing yards after back-to-back 400 yard rushing games. Most of the yards came from QB Reynolds as he had 84 on 19 carries, but 52 of those yards to a his first run of the game. He and his two options were held for less than 100 yards after that run on their first drive of the game. Navy was helped by the big play to score. Each touchdown drive was helped by at least one play of 25+ yards on their drive.…

The Heidi Game or Heidi Bowl was an American football game played on November 17, 1968. The home team, the Oakland Raiders, defeated the New York Jets, 43–32. The game is remembered for its exciting finish, as Oakland scored two touchdowns in the final minute to overcome a 32–29 New York lead. It came to be known as the Heidi Game because the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) controversially broke away from the game with the Jets still winning to air the television film Heidi at 7 p.m. in the Eastern Time Zone.…

The Best Game Ever, by Mark Bowden, was a great book that talks about the 1958 NFL Championship game that helped transform the NFL into what it is today. It has exceeded all my expectations of the book and truly shows the impact this game had on the NFL. This was the first ever football game that was a national event, this was the first ever professional football teams viewed by millions. It would also be the first sudden death overtime game ever played in the NFL, Making the game that much more exciting. In 1958 Johnny Unitas, the Colt’s star quarterback and league’s Most Valuable Player award winner, was making $17,500 for the year, five years later Joe Namath would be earning $427,000 for the year, and this stat truly shows the impact this game had on the NFL. The game even had an impact on the author, he and every other kid in the world wanted Johnny Unitas’ high top cleats growing up, everyone wanted to be him. This was the beginning of athletes becoming celebrities in society. I was surprised to see that football wasn’t very popular back then, before this game football was a joke compared to our country’s pastime, baseball. Football is now easily the country’s most popular sport, organizations would grow to be more lucrative and be worth more than many small countries. I did expect the book to talk more about the actual game though, most of the book just talks about the teams and all the players on the team’s lives and what happened leading up to the game. Very little of the book is the actual game, there is also a good amount of the book talking about what happened to the players after the game, unfortunately, half of the players from that great 1958 Colt’s team are no longer around today. The players who are fortunate enough to still be alive today talk very fondly of the team and say it was the time of their lives. The author wrote the book to show others the transformation of the league and how it affected the nation, including himself. The…

The day had finally come. No it wasn't Christmas or the New Year, Kwanza or even Easter. It was the the most glorious day of all days, the Superbowl. Now for anyone who has never heard of the Superbowl and lives in America, that person has either lived in a cave for their whole life or…well that I think would be safe to say that's probably the only case because everyone knows what the Superbowl is. Anyway, this Superbowl Sunday started off just a little bit different than most Superbowl's I've had off from work and for any of this day to make any sense for anyone that wasn't there, I'm going to have to start by including some background information on the previous events that led up to this day.…

That meant a kick off. We were all tense. If they scored that could be the game. Their team's kicker kicked the ball to the right of Damien who dived and caught it. We all let out a loud cheer and then fell silent as Evan, one our best kickers went up to the line to kick. If we scored the next goal, then we would win. Evan went up to the PK line. He reared back and kicked it.…

Although I’ve grown up knowing this rivalry was a big deal amongst my family, I never fully understood it’s magnitude until I witnessed it with my own eyes. This rivalry tends to bring out the crazy side of more people than any other I’ve witnessed! Even getting players involved in the antics, I can remember in 2005, the first time the Vikings and Packers met in the playoffs, with a Vikings win, Randy Moss showed Packer fans his good side, mooning Lambeau Field. Then there was the first time I attended an NFL game, October 2011 and fittingly it was none other than a Vikings vs. Packers game. Before even arriving at the stadium I began to see the excitement of all the people just riding the train into downtown. Vikings fans had their entire bodies painted in purple and gold, and wore giant fuzzy hats with huge…

The stadium was filled to full capacity with women, men, and children. I could not spot an empty seat in the place. Many spectators were dressed in colors of black, blue, and gold. However, the overall majority of the crowd was dressed in black and red. After the singing of the National Anthem, the football teams flooded the field in grandiose fashion. The crowd became ecstatic. The fans were cheering so loud that neither my girlfriend nor I could hear each other. The first quarter of the game seemed rather dull and mediocre, however by the second quarter, things had become incredibly intense. At the commencement of the second quarter, I could see athletes perform almost superhuman feats such as running, jumping, and throwing. The athletes appeared to be demigods with helmets and modern day gladiators. One player got hit so hard that he was carted off the field. Nonetheless, the game continued without a skipping a beat. During the second quarter, fans continued to cheer and chant for their teams. As the masses roared, the players responded by playing more aggressively. As the game went on, each team proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Each time one team scored, the other team replied with a score of their own. The back and forth scoring kept the fans on edge and tense. By the end of the second quarter, the game had become tied with only the second half…

It was a crisp cold fall day at Lambeau field. I could see everything that was happening the whole entire time. The field was as green as a tree in the middle of Summer. The cold wind was whistling in my ear. The smell the hot dogs, burgers, and turf from the field filled my nose as the game begin. All I could hear were people cheering on the Packers and the jumbotron blaring, “Go pack go!” I could see the running back Eddie Lacy drive the ball into the end zone and everyone went wild. A mix people cheering and screaming filled my ears. After the opposing team returned the ball everyone started cheering, “Defense, defense, defense!” The watched the ball get intercepted and run down the field for another touchdown! On October 2nd, 2015, Wasilla High School and Palmer High School have a football Potato Bowl game. This is the last football game of the year and its the rivalry game. Anyways that day I was with a couple of my friends and streaking got brought into conversation. And one of them suggested I did it at the potato bowl, and I agreed. So I called a couple of people and asked if they wanted to do it. One Palmer boy and one Colony boy said that they would do it with me, so I went to the store and bought red, blue, and green and white paint. The plan was to paint all of our bodies our school colors, with a white W, P and C on the all of our chests. As the night got later and time got closer to doing it, both of the boys chickened out. Everyone after that started saying I wasn't gonna do it, and doubting me. Im the type of person who doesn't like getting told to do, and when kids are telling me Im not gonna do something, I have to. Im a daredevil. So you can probably guess what I did that night.…
