Personal Narrative: The Field
When I was twelve years old, my friends and I went to a place we called: “ The field.” The neighborhood kids and I would play all kinds of sports there. One summer day, we were playing baseball. My friend was up to bat my other friend was pitching, I was playing the field along with others. My friend pitched the ball. My other friend swung and the ball was called foul, but that is where all the houses were. Because it went out of the field and into an area where there were houses. The baseball broke someone’s window, All of us were scared and started running away. We did not know that a neighbor had seen the whole incident. An hour or two later, the people from the house with the broken window , came to my friend’s house and spoke with his …show more content…
My friend's parents were mad at all of us, The owners of the house with the broken window were happy that they got a truthful answer. The owners of the house stated that it would cost approximately one hundred dollars to replace the window. We all looked at each other since we were only twelve and had no jobs. How could we come up with that money without borrowing it. We did not want to get in trouble with the police, so we said that we could pay them back. My friends got grounded and my friends parents told my parents. I got grounded as well, for lying to a grownup. This punishment had an unforeseen benefit we had to stay near our homes and come up with a plan to make money. our parents said they were not going to help us. They felt we need to learn how to handle this situation, it like young adults. We all had lawn mowers and weed eaters. All of us robbed our piggy banks and use the money for gas , weed eater string, and oil to mix the gas. One of my friend added up how much we would charge and how many yards we had to do to make the money. We decided to charge ten dollars for a small yard and fifteen dollors for a large …show more content…
Then we realized that we have to find enough yards to cut to make money for the window. We needed to cut at least fifteen small yards to pay for the broken window. We walked up and down the streets, knocking on doors of houses need their yard cut. We did not get our first yard until we went to six different houses. It took us thirty minutes to do one yard. We took turns on cutting grass. On our first day we cut three yards and made thirty dollars. We needed one hundred and twenty more dollars to pay the neighbors back in the window.the next day after school, we got our chores done and started cutting more lawns . Eventulally we made enough money to pay for the window. When we completed the task , our parents came with us to deliver the money. I knocked on the door and the neighbors with the damage window answered, they still had a bag taped over the broken window. We handed them the money and they thanked us. We said we that we're sorry and that it will not happen again. The adults were surprised that we came up with the money in a week and one day. At first we thought we could not make enough money, but we

So he and his sisters played for a while and came back a few hours later to find that the door was still locked. They rang the doorbell and their mom never answered, so they looked through the window, saw her drinking wine, and watching television. To get their moms’ attention they yelled, knocked, and even threw snowballs at the window which she bluntly ignored. So they got mad. It was getting late and they wanted to teach both of their parents a lesson. They came up with a plan where one of them would lay in the middle of the road and get hit by a car. They figured it would make the parents feel bad for not showing them attention that they obviously needed. While his sister was laying in the middle of the road the neighbor drove up, saw her, and then told their mom. She finally came and got them. He clearly states that this was just how things were when he was growing up. I find that stay at home moms can face many…

What started off as a normal day in the small Lakes Region town of Gilford New Hampshire quickly turned into a test of my ability to make the right choices and into a test of my moral rightfulness as well a judgment of my good character: It was a humid mid-August day in the Granite State; I was 14 years-old and was spending the weekend at my aunt and uncles house in Gilford. The day started like any other; my aunt and uncles morning shuffling woke me around eight o’clock and I went down stairs to find my cousin, Tyler, sitting at the breakfast with the ever-present Dunkin Donuts box open in front of him. I sat down and took my usual strawberry frosted donut. Upon taking a bite of that strawberry goodness, I asked…

We got a yellow jeep with no windows or roofing on it. At first it was weird because in my entire life I have never been in a car with no roof, it was kind of scary. On our way up the mountains to our first destination, we had to go up and down steep hills. We almost fell off the side of a cliff because of how narrow the roads were. Without dying we made it to our first stop, the sugar cane fields. The fields reminded me of wheat fields when I first saw them. The owners had kids doing all of the work in the fields and the parents would feed them for all of the work they have done. They told us not to give them any money because the parents would take it from them and spend it on drugs. We brought with us some cookies and pop to give to the children, they thanked us so much. We were able to try raw sugar cane, right from the root. It tasted like regular sugar to my surprise. After that we then go back into our jeep and started to drive away. My brother and I were sitting in the back seat and a kid jumped on the back of the car and stole a pop bottle right out of my brother’s…

My parents own six rental houses around St. Cloud, so the majority of my summers are at these houses, fixing things, mowing, and remodeling. On this specific summer day in 2006, my dad and I were repairing a fence at the house that I have always referred to as the black shutter house. I wasn’t actually helping of course, I was running around the fenced in yard, picking the tiger lilies on the side of the house and doing whatever six year olds do. I remember walking over to my father’s silver pick-up truck and grabbing a socket wrench from his tool bucket. I guess I thought I was trying to help father fix the fence because I walked over to the fence gate that wasn’t attached to the rest of the fence and started hitting it. Now this fence wasn’t a simple wooden fence, it was a metal chain link fence where the top forms a sharp point, so when I hit the fence it fell down on me, crushing me and cutting open the back of my right leg.…

    Raise Funds

Until recently, many schools asked students to sell door-to-door to finance everything from band uniforms to trips abroad: things not ordinarily covered by school budgets. But after the murder of a sixth grader selling wrapping paper and candy and the rape of another student selling newspaper subscriptions, many school districts discourage door-to-door fund-raising. If children do go door-to-door, adults or older siblings are urged to accompany them when they sell or deliver the products. And schools are now suggesting that children sell only during the day and request that children's parents pick up the items being sold and turn in the money so youngsters are not walking the streets with merchandise or cash. School districts would also like to see students sell primarily to relatives, friends, close neighbors, and their parents' co-workers.…

It was a nice, summer day and we lived in Odessa, Ukraine. Ukraine buildings formed courtyards. My friend and I played in the yard. The yard was small with garages and a big tree in the back. We climbed everywhere we could: tree, the roofs of the garages and the attics. We were like adventurers; we tried to imagine being Indiana Jones the man from the movie I saw on TV. I was impressed by his adventures. We knew that no one would tell us to stop because our parents were shopping, that day, and we stated with my best friend’s grandmother. She was a chubby and pleasant woman, 78 or 79 years old, and couldn’t always see what we were doing. So we took advantage of that old woman who couldn’t really know what we were doing.…

It happen one Saturday morning Summer of 1982, I was 10 years old and very adamant about helping my mom with anything she needed. It always took a while for breakfast and dinner to be completed because mom was cooking for 11 children. She needed some sugar to complete the meal this particular morning. And as always, I was there and ready to help get things done. So, I prepare myself to go to the corner store a block away from the house. I started on my way to the store with the five dollars that she gave me to purchase the sugar. Halfway to the store, I started thinking about what I could buy out of the five dollars without her noticing that too much money had been spent. Well, if you knew my mom, you would know that she could count money very well. This meant I couldn’t get the M&Ms candy that I love to eat so much.…

When you are young you make mistakes and do dumb things. That is very well known. We all learn life lessons whether it be not to lie or about responsibility but the point being, we all learn some sort of lessons. My Mother, Grandma, little sister and I went to go visit my Great Grandma Hood often. We went more and more lately because she was getting older and forgetting things. Not anything too big like family but just simple yet dramatic things like the stove and oven on. I would always love going over to her house because her back yard was filled with lots of green grass and hanging flowers. And on the side you could open a small fence and enter a bright and narrow garden. Karalena, my little sister, and I would always go in there to scare…

We reached the front porch as my father struggled to find the right key. As we entered the door, I was ready to kick off my shoes and head to my room to change into comfy clothing until my seven year old sister gasped in shock. This was when I was certain that I was right. “Our backyard window is broken!” I stopped in the middle of the hallway. “What happened?” was all I could manage to sputter out, but I already knew the answer. The couch was flipped over and the TV was gone. Being only thirteen at the time, I thought…
