Personal Narrative: The End Of My Soccer Career
Have you ever wanted to quit something because of someone trying to discourage you. When I was younger in about 3rd grade I played soccer and I had a nice coach. However when a certain man named Chuck came up to the coach and asked if he could be assistant coach. Little did I know it would be the end of my soccer career for a while, and I wish it never stopped. At first chuck wasn’t too awful of an assistant coach, when he didn’t do anything, however that didn’t last long. Eventually he started participating with the team, but a little too much. He was a little bit harsh which now would be fine but back then when I was maybe 10 years old I could not handle stressful situations. If someone were to yell at me i’d immediately become stressed …show more content…
Chuck hollered across the field “How could you miss that goal?!” but not just asking, he was shouting. This was the moment I decided I wasn't going to play the next season, not with him. After that I went on to not play soccer for the next 5 years. Finally once I made it to 8th grade I joined a rec team. We weren’t too amazing, but it made me realise my love for soccer and talent I had gained in the past. After that season ended I played for the WASC or the Waunakee Area Soccer Club which helped me dust off my knowledge of the game and although I can not make up for the 5 years of invaluable experience I missed, I worked hard to try to catch up. Now through hard work I currently play with the high school freshman team which is as of september 9th has 7 wins and 0 losses. In the end I somewhat caught up to everyone else who continued to play throughout the years. That is why I want a do over of that time because then I could go back and not quit soccer and not miss out on valuable training and exercise and I could be just that much of a better player

The story begins around April 2013, right about 3 months after I passed my tests and got my bowling coaching certification. I was at the time coaching a youth league at Cactus Bowl, I would coach one week and bowl in the same league the next. I had very little experience at this time when it came to coaching, I only had experience coaching the bumper bowlers at the time, and no experience coaching the kids my age. There were 6 other coaches, another who coached bumpers, one who was more there to heckle more than anything, two who would focus on one kid for the day, and two who would try to focus on everyone they could including the head coach who would get everything set up for when the league started.…

It was a frigid, windy, Friday night in October. The only light was the bright and beaming illumination of the stadium lights projecting over the soccer field. The bleachers were full, it seemed as if the whole school was there, and as a freshman with anxiety, it made it hard to cope with the fact, that I was going to be a starter for the varsity soccer team.…

My desire to go back and play soccer kept on growing. After boosting myself up, I finally decided to try out. I was told we would have a new coach. I was a little scared that we wouldn’t have our old coach anymore. Also, when the team was mad a little after, our old coach came back just in time. Knowing that if we had a chance to get our old coach back was wonderful. Because nothing would be the same. Every sport and routines are different from the beginning to the end whole different start.…

Soccer had always been my main passion. For eleven years it was what I loved to do and I spent all my free time doing it. There was never a time when there wasn't a ball at my feet. Although as time went on I noticed my passion slowly breaking down. Playing became less and less fun and it became something I no longer looked forward to. I tried to deny this for a while, I went to college camps and continued to try to pursue my old dream of playing college soccer and was even invited to play with the national team but despite these seemingly wonderful things it didn't feel right and I wasn't enjoying it. In my sophomore year of high school the combination of a selfish coach, unwilling teammates and failure to make the varsity level finally forced…

My life has revolved around soccer since I was four years old. My whole family was born into the sport and I’m so thankful that I have the support from my family and friends to continue to follow my dream in playing college soccer. I believe my life would not be the same without participating in the sport I love and playing with the people I grew up with. I wouldn’t have met half the people I know now. All my teammate’s families that treat me like their family would have been just imaginary. I wouldn’t have a second family to fall back on when I need. Soccer had made me for who I am. The reason I’m so competed and driven is because of the game. Soccer has helped me become a responsible hardworking young adult that doesn’t like to fail. My never-quit…

It’s game day, and the first time in twenty-three years that we might be able to defeat out school rivals, Turpin. But something didn’t feel like it should, after all it was the biggest day our team’s season. We had immense confidence in ourselves, being the higher raked state team, we expected to win this game then make a large tournament run. Little did we know that the rest of our season relied heavily on this game. Winning or losing this game would not end our season physically, but would emotionally ruin us, ultimately ending our season. The game began with a pleasant, almost soothing blow of the whistle and ended with the blood-curtailing screech of the referee’s dagger, sending shivers down my spin. The roar of our crowd stopped and…

Two years ago, a soccer ball was blasted into the side of my head and knocked me to the ground. It left me with a concussion that not only took me out of soccer for six months, but also affected my day to day life. For months, it made me nauseous to even jog around the block or walk down a crowded hallway. I was in physical therapy, vision therapy and on a special learning plan at school. Even though the blow to my head could have altered my life completely, I pleaded with my parents to let me continue my soccer career. It took two more minor concussions to make me realize it was not safe for me to play anymore. Looking back on my time playing soccer, I question why I kept playing. Why did I put the sport and my team ahead of my own health?…

Starting soccer when I was only five years old was challenging because of my October birthday I had to play with all the six year olds. My parents had put me in soccer because I was a young boy filled with too much energy. After playing soccer for about a year I decided I wanted to do more, I loved the sport. I started playing club soccer when I was 7 years old, playing for under the wing of Charley Amblo. This was a training team only, it was not till I was nine that I was started playing for a travel team. This was the beginning of where I learned my leadership, time management, and teamwork dynamics.…

My seventh grade soccer season was amazing and I looked forward to my eighth grade soccer season because I would hopefully be on varsity then. When the soccer season came this year, I made varsity. I had improved a lot throughout the year and my hard work had paid off - I played left forward each game and was the top scorer for the second year in a row. Overall, I am glad that I was on junior varsity because the season was amazing. Every time I am in a seemingly disappointing situation, it could lead to something more…

Our next spring lacrosse season I worked twice as hard, I was in my sophomore year of high school and was determined to prove to the coaches that I was ready for varsity. Unfortunately, the coach and I didn't see eye to eye. She said, " Katlyn, I'm proud of how well you improved this year, but I believe you need one more year to improve more. I think you should stay on junior varsity and be a leader to the younger girls because you have stronger skills." I was devastated; my heart was broken. However, I channeled all these emotions and got fired up for the season to prove the coach wrong. I became the leading scorer and proved to the coach that I was varsity material. I understand now my coach's…
