The taxi driver, dad and mum sat up in the from while we four children sat on the long, brown, cracked leather seat at the back, with all the luggage of course, squished. But this didn't matter. Our gazes were caught on the winter wonderland outside. The ground was blanketed in sparkly white snow, and the tall, once-green trees were now completely white. Growing up in hot, dry South Australia meant we had never seen snow before - it was a childhood dream. To see snow, build a magnificent snowman, and stick a bright orange carrot for a nose, place a big red pot on his head and a long woolly scarf around his neck. On the day of January 12, farmers and children from all over the nebraska territory believed that that day was going to be warm and enjoyable compared to the previous days. From the early morning, farmers were up carrying out chores and duties that were post poned due to the weather. They were all very confident that the day would be a glorious day, wearing nothing but mere under clothing. Children rushed to schools that were miles away without jackets, gloves, or scarves. Around mid day, the mild sky would so suddenly turn into.a nightmare, cathing all in the vast area extremely off guard. with the wicked winds and ice crystals rolling in, victoms had no time to react. If only those individuals had been fore warned, the death toll would be at a guarenteed low.…

This property, although it fulfilled their dream of owning their own farm, did not have a house, and consequently they had to live in a mobile home for several years. At first the excitement of owning their own farm was enough to sustain them, but after a year the novelty was beginning to erode and it began getting more difficult to live there. It was in this cramped house that they had Lucy, their first child born in Canada, which was a special moment for them. It was, however, a time when they experienced their first snow storm. In this snow storm, an unbelievable amount of snow covered their roof, and in fact they were not able to get to town for a week. It was a crazy, fun week that could have been dangerous but it was an incredible new experience for them. The overall structure and plot of the story plays a part in how Wolff viewed his own life within the characters. It opens with a simple yet intriguing statement: "Tub had been waiting for an hour in the falling snow" (Wolff 1). Immediately, this hook does its job drawing the reader into the story and making him wonder what is going on. In the same paragraph we find that Tub is walking down the street, carrying a rifle and seemingly, shooting the breeze. But then a car comes from nowhere, nearly killing Tub and forcing him to leap off the roadside. Inside the truck, Tub's friends, Kenny and Frank, wait laughing at the apparent "joke" that they had just played. Tub doesn't seem quite as amused, stating, "You could've killed me!" (Wolff 5). Then, the three friends begin to make their way towards the woods to go hunting for…

Hunters in the snow has strong literary depth in relation to human nature and weather. All of the characters contrast one another. For example, during the first scene it is evident that Tub is not “in” with Kenny and Frank. This displays bullying and a sense of social darwinism. Tub is overweight and cannot seem to keep up with the other two men, so they single him out as different.…

To a minor degree can Canada boast about its tolerance for ethnic diversity. In Chapter 12 of "A Few Acres of Snow," Britain preferred to populate its new colonies, including Canada, with citizens from the British Isles. This policy held distinct advantage because it made British North America more British than French. The Whites during the period were known as the superior race. When politics, religion, a population explosion, and famine conspired in Ireland in the mid-nineteenth century, many Irish came to Canada in search for a new life.…

Conflicting perspective always exist due to the inevitable subjectivity of composers, and the inevitable differing opinions of those around us. Conflicting perspectives are represented by the composer in a way that conveys their personal opinion with the aim to influence their responder’s perspective of the issues and themes presented, not in an unbiased and even-handed manner. This is evident within both Snow Falling on Cedars written by David Guterson and the 2008 film Invictus directed by Clint Eastwood within which the negative and ongoing impact of racial tension and prejudice is shown, and the differing perspectives and understanding of human values is explored by both composers.…

As soon as Fil woke up, he noticed a whiteness outside, quite unusual for the November mornings they had been having. That fall, Chicago was sandman's town, sleepy valley, drowsy gray, slumberous mistiness from sunup till noon when the clouds drifted away in cauliflower clusters and suddenly it was evening. The lights shone on the avenues like soiled lamps centuries old and the skyscrapers became monsters with a thousand sore eyes. Now there was a brightness in the air land Fil knew what it was and he shouted, "Snow! It's snowing!"…
