Personal Narrative: Standing Up
Introduction

My dad, Al, and I, have shared a decent amount in common throughout our lives, and I thought it was pretty interesting. Although we have grown up in different environments, we still have the same old fights with our siblings, or times where we actually stood up for our siblings. My dad has inspired me to do many things with my life, and has helped me to become a better person. In these stories you will see success and failure, but it all leads up to the path that we have taken today.

Standing Up

My school life has been pretty smooth since it started. Sure, I have moved schools now and then due to living situations, but besides that, I was doing great. My grades were up, I had friends, I was running for class president,

Al wanted his brother to have a nice time, and if that meant staying on one cabinet for the entire time, that’s what he would do. He didn’t think that anyone should disrespect his brother the way that the guy did, and he decided to do something about it. The guy and Al started cussing each other out, and Al ended up punching the guy dead in the nose. Although the guy was stronger than Al, due to his nose swelling up, he wasn’t able to see. There’s hardly any match with a handicap like that. Alex just had to watch his younger brother beat up on a dude his size, and the cause being a video game. When the fight was broken up, Al had won, and he had the guts to stand up for his brother, even if it meant that the odds were against …show more content…
We only have an age gap of two years, which is enough for her to act like the little sister. She would always cry to get my parents on her side, and it always worked. I remember one time where I had wanted to go to my friend’s house, Melvin’s, and she would insist that she’d go with me. I didn’t understand why, but I realized that it was simply due to the fact that I didn’t want her to. She kept bothering me over and over again, so I was starting to get a little bit angry. I told her, “If you don’t stop right now, I’m gonna tell mom.” This didn’t work though, since this is exactly what she wanted. My mom always sided with my sister, and she knew that if my mom got into the picture, I would either have to take her with me, or I wouldn’t be able to go at all. We started messing around with each other, and she started mocking me. I was about ten, so as all ten year olds would have, it got to me. I told her to stop, but she just kept on going, and I was so mad that I ended up pushing her. It was definitely not a hard push, but it was enough to get my sister going. She started bawling her eyes out, screaming, and I never understood how she, or any little sister managed to cry so easily. Sure enough, my mom came running in, and immediately looked at me. She knew that my sister would antagonize me, but I was the one who ended up getting in trouble anyways. I explained to her the situation and as I thought, she wouldn’t

Traveling into the Indian Territory, we were being angrily chased down by three Indians furiously shouting at us. Dashing through the thick forest, the savage Indians were throwing spears and shooting arrows that narrowly missed us. Although neither Gideon nor I was mortally injured, I did suffer from a nick from an arrow piercing near my ear. Thankfully, a group of burly fur traders approached from the side, which frightened the Indians to run away. Acknowledging that Gideon and I were inexperienced travelers in the west, they offered us protection in exchange for some valuable possessions. As a consequence, knowing that they were our best alternative for survival, we gave them our antique gold pocket watches and assumed the identities of novice fur traders. From that point on, we followed them through the west and adopted their skills for efficiently hunting animals and keeping warm in the harsh, cold weather. During one of our rest points, we approached a large Cherokee settlement located in Park Hill in which our group leader was friends with the Cherokee leader John Ross.…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…

Today was the day. The big day. My election for Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B for Key Club, an international service club, was today. Fear and anxiety pricked my skin in rapid movements emanating from every pore. I rehearsed my speech for the fifth time that day. Upon arrival at the Fairfax Library, I urged myself to remain calm. I quickly scouted out the other girls who were present; one girl was dressed professionally with a folder in her hand. I knew that was my competition. The girl spoke eloquently and genially, she radiated enthusiasm and a certain warmth that I did not have. With every question that was asked, she answered with a smooth smile and high-pitched tone that was dripping with sincerity. I bristled inside; I had just been slapped. I was shrouded in a cloud of anxiety and anxiousness. Suddenly, I was dragged from my reverie.…

Ever since I was born, I was a military brat. Not knowing where to call home, or if any place could be home, I moved. “We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little bit of each other everywhere”-Unknown. Growing up as a child was never really a tough thing for me. I came from a solid family with nothing but the normal issues that would come between us. My 2 brothers were always there to nag me about everything, then of course tell on me when I did something wrong. When I would get told on they would always run to my Dad, who always made the punishment a lot worse, but for good reason. My brothers were both “mommy’s boys” growing up, but me, no way, I was a “daddy’s boy”. My dad taught me the value of respect and honesty towards everyone. He always told me to put myself in someone else’s shoes and appreciate what…
