Personal Narrative: Southern Baptist Religion
11) When you were a child, what type of religion did your family follow? When I was a child, my parents were divorced at an extremely early age. I truly never got to experience the lifestyle my Father had to offer, since he didn’t recognize that I was his child. My mother’s family was originally from Eastern Tennessee, better known as Appalachian Country. They were stern Southern Baptist, in their beliefs and their way of life. When we finally settled down in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio, they decided that we would attend a Baptist church in the area. Even though I was truly too young to understand the fundamentals of what was happening in the church. I was basically taught to accept it, because it made my family happy. Growing up I had to practice …show more content…
My earliest memories of a religious service was the first time we stepped foot into the new church. There was just something even at a young age didn’t seem quite right with me. I can remember the first time that I stepped foot into the sanctuary, I was fascinated that the boards in the sanctuary was in different colors. The pulpit was set up in such a way that even as a kid, I could tell that it was going to be extremely strict and uninviting.
14) What type of religion did your grandparents follow? The type of religion that my grandparents followed was Southern Baptist. The Southern Baptist Religion was different from the Baptist Churches in the northern plains are, they are more strict. They felt it was their way or no way. They were expected to attend church at least three times a week.
15) What were the most important religious events in your family? This was an extremely difficult question for me to answer. The normal person when they were asked this question would say when they were baptized. Myself I was baptized at a extremely young age not by my choice, but of my family choice. When I was discharged from the Navy back in 1982. I lost my mother at an extremely young age. The church that I had been attending splintered into two different factions. Instead of making my own choice of what I wanted to do. I followed my Grandparents and went to the new

What really caught my eye were the three Buddha statues where we were going to have the service. The statues looked like they were made of gold but I just thinking it was the lighting. As I entered I felt a sense of calmness it was very different than a Christian church. In a Christian church I always felt tense or felt uneasy because of all the people jumping around singing songs like some type of indigenous tribes. On the other hand going to a catholic church always made me feel guilty or depressed. Being in this temple was different I actually felt welcomed while everyone was calm and collected and not bouncing off the walls. As we entered the area where they have the service we had to sit down on these cushions and after a little bit of talking they started the meditation. We repeated nam-myoho-renge-kyo over and over with a little bit of different words mixed in during the meditation. While doing it I was constantly feeling this sense of euphoria it felt like I was in a trace with everyone joining in. honestly, it felt weird because I never had a sensation like that before and just like that it was over. An hour passed and I didn’t even notice my legs were cramped but my body felt like it was floating, I actually thought I did some black magic or something but everyone was a cheerful mood. We didn’t stay long after the service was finished but one thing I…

This morning I attended a weekday mass at All Saints Catholic Church. The church itself is relatively large from what I saw. The exterior had many well-tended trees and bushes, with a sign pointing to the office, and a cross about six feet tall out front by a cement walkway which led to the entrance. The building itself was a taupe color with dark brown roofing and glass doors leading at the entrance. As I walked through the glass doors I was not greeted by anyone, so I followed what everyone else was doing. I noticed a holy water font in front of the doors leading directly to the room of worship. I watched as the casually-dressed Parishioners, all aged at least sixty-five years, and mostly white, middle-class women dipped their fingers into the font and then made the sign of the cross, before entering the worship area.…
