Personal Narrative: Rosa Parks

In my mind, everyone is entitled to their own opinion or belief, even if it's wrong. There's so many people who made history just because they stood by what they believed was right. I rewrote a chapter in my own story by believing in myself and what I feel about my father. One of the many people that made history by sticking by their beliefs is Rosa Parks. Rosa was an African American activist in the Civil Rights Movement. One of the most famous things she's known for is refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a bus. Because of this, she became an international icon of resistance to racial segregation. She worked closely with civil rights leaders such as Edgar Nixon and Martin Luther King jr. My father was never really a part of my life. He was kind of a drug and alcohol addict. For all I know, he still is. My mom and him never got married so to be honest, it's not a surprise to me that they didn't stay together. Anyway, he has two other kids with other people and never paid child support for them so he's fifty thousand dollars in debt . My mom felt bad for him so when I was born, she left him off my birth certificate. He came to see me quite a few times in the first three years of my life, but when I turn 6 years old, he stayed behind in Washington, while we moved to Arizona because my mom got a new job. He has never left the state of Washington at least in my lifetime so I have not seen him since I was six. The only time I ever saw him and remember was when I was 10. I was in Washington visiting my grandpa. We visited with my dad for about 30 minutes at a Denny's. Even though he is a drug addict and an alcoholic, he is still my father, and even though my mom does not think he is a good guy, I believe with enough encouragement and enough support he can change and be a better
