Personal Narrative: Placid Jermaine
They call me placid Jermaine, but really I’m not. There’s nothing peaceful or calm in my mind I’m actually very opinionated. I’m constantly thinking and wondering about things. Growing up an African American teen in Lafayette, Virginia the odd of success were against me. My whole life I’ve been around small-minded bigots which are noxious mentally to be around. They’re telling me the only way I would ever make it in life is if I played sports or if I sold drugs just because of the color of my skin. I have no idea why people like that have to be so knotty. My mother would always give me the best advice with dealing with a person like that. She told me there’s numerous amount of small-minded people in the world just prove them wrong so you

Growing up, I noticed a lot of discussion about financial problems between my parents. It’s not that we were becoming poor, it was because of our growing family needing more supplies. My mother just gave birth to my little brother when I started noticing the financial issues my family were facing. As a little girl, I do not know how our finances worked all I knew was many bills were due and I knew it because when I was a little girl I liked to practice reading and those bill statements were the papers that attracted my interest due to its colorful paper.…

Mr. Hittson I totally apologize for Coltens actions. He is definately being raised better than that. I have had a long talk with him over this issue. I noticed this morning Colten seemed upset about something when he got dropped off. When he got into the school I texted him and told him to not let anything deter him in school if he is upset. He has been having girlfriend issues that I have been trying to guide him through and I think that is what has been wrong with him. He's usually not like this. He is being raised in a very good home with good guidance. I told him I will not tolerate him using profanity and disrespecting the teachers or the school. I also told him that in the future if he acts the same with future bosses, then he will be…

He goes to the hoop. He jumps, hanging in the air for what felt like eternity. It was his second game. Brought up from the D-League, he needed to prove himself. His name is Jeff “Elmo” Beige. As the ball is coming down, closer to the hoop another individual comes into play. The name is unnecessary to know, but the man is key to Jeff’s story. The man jumps. He didn’t have to, but he did it anyway. His six-foot ten body could have easily blocked the shot on Jeff’s six-foot five structure. As Jeff’s hand with the ball comes crashing toward the net the man’s hand makes contact with the ball. The ball doesn't even touch the rim. Rejected at the rim. Jeff’s career is over at that very moment. One block defined his whole basketball career. Such a dejected ending for a fantastic story.…

I, Jaelin Carter, am writing to you, Hetal Patel, to prove to you why I deserve to continue my college career here at Robert Morris University. Rightfully so, should I have been on academic probation seeing as though I did not take the opportunity to allow my true scholastic ability to speak for me. By no means am I using this appeal as a window to make excuses for my poor choices but to simply enlighten you on the troubling and disheartening incidents that occurred which unfortunately became my first priority.…

After 7 months of searching, we had finally found the location of the sixteenth artifact for our collection. After piecing together all of the stories and legends, we finally found a bit of truth. The Vial Of Fire was an ancient weapon that was said to be created by the Egyptians. In their time it was a medicine designed to give someone the ability to ignite in flames for a small amount of time, and was used mostly for cauterizing wounds of friends injured while building the pyramids. We had already found The Vial of Strength, and the The Vial of Speed from the same time period. Each of these vials had the last remaining ounces of the immensely powerful potions that made it possible for humans to make the pyramids on their own. After…

That is amazing! I can honestly say a fish tank was not of high worry for me when it comes to things being hacked. I, like most people, think of my cellphone, tablet, and computer, of being hacked compared to my appliances (which non of them are smart so I am hopefully safe there). It's amazing how someone in another state or even country can access almost everything I own. A gentleman named Thomas Hatley, was awoken one morning by someone stating, "I can see all of the devices in your home and I think I can control them” (Hill, 2013). This stranger proceeded to prove to Thomas what she could do by turning his lights on and off. This man seemed astounded by the possibilities. It's amazing to me that some individuals still don't understand the…

As I Easter came upon us, I knew my Grandpa John would be in town. My Grandpa John is 69 years old, and has experienced many different social issues during his life, so I decided to interview him. In his prime, my grandpa served in the military which allowed him to move often around the United States, and the world. I knew he had a lot of experience due to the military, and he was quite the storyteller. I knew it would be easy to talk to him about different social issues throughout his life. As we sat down we talked about many things, but the two ideas that really stuck out to me were the Vietnam War and the Space Race.…

I hate Oreos. “Milk’s favorite cookie”? Yeah, right. Do not get me wrong who can resist a Snickers or a slice of cherry pie, I love sweets, but I would pass on a whole box of Oreos for these any day. Being called this sweet name with such a vicious meaning behind it ruined this sugary treat for me. According to my friends I have a severe problem with not being “black” enough, and they claim my numerous track accolades are the only “black” thing about me. I have always been proud of my Caribbean heritage, my parents instilled in me from day one to never shy away from my Jamaican and St. Maarten upbringing, but growing up in white suburbia has made it difficult. Throughout most of my grade school career I have been one of approximately 5 black kids in my grade, and in high school I have been one…

“I can see in them an expression of my own restless spirit,” said Katie in Flicka. On October 30, 2016, I got my horse Jozi. She is an American Quarter Horse and stands at about 15 hands. Her color to me is absolutely beautiful. Jozi is a red roan dun. Her summer coat gets white with dashes of orange tinted brown throughout her body. Front face, ears, legs, tail and mane remain a brown with orange shine. With some stripes similar to zebra stripes in dark brown that transition to a reddish brown. In the winter, she looks a lot like a deer. The natural orange tinted brown shows through with no white in sight.…
