Personal Narrative-Original Writing
“Justin! Are you okay!” my father yelled at me from the top of the hill. I stared at my feet and saw that both of my skis were gone, and my foot bent backwards. It didn’t hurt much, but I felt the warmth of my tears stream down my face like a waterfall. Then the pain set in; It was like a brick falling on my leg smashing it into the ground. I started screaming, but the lump in my throat prohibited me to do so. My dad rushed down and saw my foot; he called the paramedics. 5 minutes later I was in a bag and going onto an ambulance...

Alright time to go fast and win. It will be the first in a long time. “Go!” My dad shouted go, and I shifted my weight. Cool winter air blowing into my face was a great sensation that I’ve felt many times before. She was already ahead of me. crap; I have to catch up. So I went into a tucking position with my poles behind me, and putting more force in front of me so it boosted me. I was gaining, but she started to use the same technique as me. I felt like I was being chased by a German Shepard. The turn came up, and this is where I could gain the lead. I turned first so I could grab the inside of the turn. There was a ramp, so I leapt off of it and used it to

I used the ramps, but lost some momentum in the process. “Come on Justin there is no way you can’t catch up on moguls” I thought to myself and after skiing down every merciless bump. I am now in the lead. My legs were exhausted after the moguls, but I kept on. Turn after turn, she was rearing closer to me, so I did the same technique as before; except now we were on the catwalk. Catwalks are not my strongest point. There was the steep hill leading to the final challenge, so I used that to advance in the race. It was icy, but I kept turning and planting my pole. I was feeling so fatigued that my legs were numb at the bottom of the hill. I went straight so I could catch my breath and keep catching

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…

In March 2011, I took a few days of classes and received my hunting education certification. Looking back, the actual class time is just a blur of what not to do, but I was reminded of them when I took drivers education last December, with the what not to do teachings. I also remember being very nervous about the test, but having a great feeling when I learned I passed. That October, I remember being immensely excited to go on my first hunt. The night before my dad and I left, I had a parent teacher conference and I remember getting some strange looks in the parking lot because we had a trailer loaded with tents, four wheelers, chairs, and a bunch of other stuff…

My twin brother Alex is leading the pack. He turns around gesturing the race is on, but he quickly flies out of sight around a bend. I lift my left heel then my right heel almost immediately after to turn right. The edges of the board slice through the snow propelling me forward as I cut deeper into the snow. Using the reverse of this skilled technique I veer into a hard left turn. Carving right and…

I first started walking Fred Flintstone style until I reached the peak of the hill. When I first started going down the hill the adrenaline hit me. With no control over my speed it felt like a helpless free fall and the only thing I could do was steer perfectly through the narrow path. The most difficult part though was avoiding the dead piles of grass that lined the sides of the path. Being an abandoned golf course there isn’t much upkeep except cutting the grass every once in a while which built up on the side of the path. After the exhilarating and successful run I ran back up to Paul for his turn telling him how fun it…

“If you're getting rad and there is no one around to see it, are you really getting rad?” (Andy Hayes) This question proposed by Andy Hayes is a tough one to answer, and is one that puzzles skiers and snowboarders across the world. On one hand, you just nailed a totally righteous line that would undoubtedly leave you're alpine counterparts flabbergasted. On the other hand, nobody saw it, and will anybody actually believe your word when you tell them of your incredible feats. Besides for the question of are you getting rad, another must be answered; how rad did you actually get? We can all brag and rant about how amazingly we skied a line, but there must be a quantitative way to prove who got the raddest.…

My greatest influences are my parents and my brother. My brother suffered from Guillain- Barre Syndrome when he was eight. He lived in the hospital on an artificial ventilation for 97 days and later he had to continue physical therapy for at least ten years as he was completely paralyzed. My parents and my brother devoted their few years completely for his treatment. Today, my brother is a successful engineer working in the bay area. I learned that with dedication, determination and diligence we can achieve our dream in life…

Drifter and I ran fairly good that day. She was excited and hyped up for once. You might be thinking, "why would you want your horse all hyped up?", but trust me, with Drifter it is more of a "actually willing to do something." Don't get me wrong, I love the mare and all, but she's lazy. Then it was time for the flags. She took off without hesitating as my heels hit her sides. We didn't even slow down as I tore the flag from the bucket and got around the end barrel racing back towards the timer. I threw the flag when she refused to slow down and she spooked. She reared ever so slightly before side-passing yet somehow running back across the timer. Then it was time for the partner…

I felt like such a looser I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t because everyone had their eyes on me feeling like a dam about to burst. This was probably the most embarrassing moment of my life as I was on that track. I was about to walk off the turf and not finish, but then I started to he rhythmic clap from the audience and I knew it was for me. At that moment I started to jog to finish line. I had two forces fighting within me one wanting me to give up and there wanting to keep going forward and not letting people down. If the audience can put the effort to cheer me on, the least I can do is finish. I finally finish and I have never been so happy to finish something in my life.…

As you go down this hill, your momentum only goes up until you get to the bottom and are forced to stop unless you want to end up in the middle of Lake Michigan. We spent a few minutes at the bottom of the hill to look around, take pictures, and to catch our breaths. Then we turned around and looked at the climb that we were about to take on. Three of Mary’s brothers were already on their way up the hill when she and I started our twenty minute climb. Mary started to get ahead of me because I slowed down to try to count how many steps it would take me to get to the top of the hill. As I reached two hundred steps I looked behind me only to realize that I was only about half way up. This climb became very challenging because of the steepness of the hill and the shifting of the sand every step. As I started to drip sweat, I was reaching the top and felt pretty accomplished. I was taking a break every fifty to sixty steps to catch my breath for a moment, and was determined not to lose count of my…

The mantra, "breathe in your nose and out your mouth," was the only thing running through my head as I attempted to complete the last half mile of my first cross-country meet, and at least it was running. I on the other hand, was not. I had started the race completely confident in my ability to run three miles, but after a grueling two and a half laps of tripping over tree roots, splashing through mud, and struggling over an enormous hill that marked the last quarter of the lap, I was just ready to go home and take a shower. When my feet crossed onto the threshold of the track where the finish line was positioned, I observed quite a few things. One, the conspicuous red timer was flashing numbers well into the mid-forties range. Two, at least half of the buses in the parking lot seemed long gone. My third and final realization did not occur to me until after I crossed the finish line. As I came to a stop near the water cooler, it finally dawned on me that I had concluded the race in last place.…

I am so excited and scared at the same time, speeding down the hill so fast that I think I might just lose control and hit a tree. All I hear is the wind roaring in my ears. I see a tree in front of me and lean to left and miss it by a hair! Zigzagging to the left and to right helps me slow down. After coming down that hill I went up to the Meadow run. The Meadow run is steeper which means more steering! Coming down the Meadow run is even better than the regular hill.…
