Personal Narrative Of Paulette's Life
It was a sunny afternoon in the spring when 9th grader Paulette's life was forever change. It started as an average day, for an average girl, in an average town, as though we all thought. As the school day was over at Immaculate Conception, Paulette Raney approaches her bus to Orange (a town in New Jersey). She takes her seat in the back, just like every day. While reading a book, she's interrupted and looks up with her beautiful hazel- green eyes to find a young man in front of her. His name was Spencer Salomon, a 9th grader, who asked her politely, "Is it okay if I sit next to you?" She said yes and moved her bags for him to sit. On the bus ride home that day they both talked, laughed and smiled with one another. As Paulette’s stop approached, she got up and Spencer said to her, “I hope I get to hang out with you sometime soon, you’re such a lovely girl.” It was what you called, love at first sight. From that day, they knew that nothing will ever be the same. It was the start of something new and beautiful. …show more content…

Their love was true and real because they put each other first than

Within Annie Murphy Paul's essay, it is argued that reading does have an impact on humans. She began her essay with the counter argument given by Gregory Currie; "we ought not to claim that literature improves us as people. Published as a part of The Met Heilbrunn Timeline, Stella Paul writes Modern Storytellers: Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Faith Ringgold (2004) to highlight three African-American artists who conveyed important expressive messages through their works with narrative and social commentary. She elaborates on how the artist's similar heritage and upbringing forged similar identities, yet distinct chosen subject and non-traditional media, allowed for them to become modern storytellers for their community and Harlem. They were up on a picnic table at that park by the lake, by the edge of the lake, with part of a downed tree in the shallows half hidden by the bank. Lane A. Dean, Jr., and his girlfriend, both in bluejeans and button-up shirts. They sat up on the table’s top portion and had their shoes on the bench part that people sat on to picnic or fellowship together in carefree times. They’d gone to different high schools but the same junior college, where they had met in campus ministries. It was springtime, and the park’s grass was very green and the air suffused with honeysuckle and lilacs both, which was almost too much. There were bees, and the angle of the sun made the water of the shallows look dark. There had been more storms that week, with some downed trees and the sound of chainsaws all up and down his parents’ street. Their postures on the picnic table were both the same forward kind with their shoulders rounded and elbows on their knees. In this position the girl rocked slightly and once put her face in her hands, but she was not crying. Lane was very still and immobile and looking past the bank at the downed tree in the shallows and its ball of exposed roots going all directions and the tree’s cloud of branches all half in the water. The only other individual nearby was a dozen spaced tables away, by himself, standing upright. Looking at the torn-up hole in the ground there where the tree had gone over. It was still early yet and all the shadows wheeling right and shortening. The girl wore a thin old checked cotton shirt with pearl-colored snaps with the long sleeves down and always smelled very good and clean, like someone you could trust and care about even if you weren’t in love. Lane Dean had liked the smell of her right away. His mother called her down to earth and liked her, thought she was good people, you could tell—she made this evident in little ways. The shallows lapped from different directions at the tree as if almost teething on it. Sometimes when…

Just as I strode across the street, the mustard tinted bus, filled with immature, junior high students pulled up beside me. I wasn't thrilled to be riding the bus, but it was either step onto the yellow, nightmare filled vehicle, or walk in the rain, so I quickly chose the bus. I selected a seat in the center of the bus, next to a small built looking girl in a purple sweater, plastic rimmed glasses, and navy jeans. The youngster had brunette short hair, and tiny diamond studded earrings shinning in her ears.…

It was raining in the evening, the outside were as cold as the snow dropping in the winter. My body was not feeling well; I still have felt the pain of being left by someone. How pretentious I am to say, the truth is I did not have somebody to be left with. I never tried to be with someone I liked, someone I loved. Now I’m experiencing the longing of being with someone who would take care of me and appreciate the things you never think people would appreciate. “I need someone right now. .. “ This is what my mind keeps on murmuring until I fell out of sleep.…

She plopped down right next to me, her legs crossed indian-style. It was then that I thought about all the shit we've been through. All the pain we've felt... And there she goes, smiling at me with such irresistible charm. Her hair twists made one quick motion as she threw her head onto my shoulder. Then, she buried her head into my chest... and then silence. She was listening to my heartbeat, “is this real?” she asked. “Can any of this be real? Why me? Why us? How are we surviving?” A few years of questions and thoughts piled up into one moment. A few years worth of feelings spilled in a few seconds of conversation.…

Looking up gloomily at the cloudy sky, caught in the moment, she began to think of him again. Just the thought of him would spread a smile upon her face. Sudden warmth filled her heart and her stomach turned weak. She recalled their first encounter; at the bakery. He spent most of his time there. On her walks home from school she often glanced through the thick glass door just to catch sight of him. Just to refresh the image of him in her reckless mind. The number of times she thought of shoving the doors open and making him hers was unbelievable. She was hung up on him. His dark brown skin, thick in texture and so smooth, the desire…
