Personal Narrative: Not Killed, But Stronger Than Ever Before
Not Killed, but Stronger Than Ever Before Here I am sitting in a car, riding on I-20. My family in the car as we see fantastic views of the cities and exits. It’s December time in the winter’s harsh environment. It’s snowing really hard as we are stuck in traffic. Cars lined up from bumper to bumper, tail to tail. We are headed to a football game in Athens. Stuck in rush hour traffic, we wait, wait, and wait until it clears up. Glancing and looking, the snow now is pounding the windshield. This was a very special day today. One year ago today my mom had a successful surgery for cancer. Today is a happy day for our family. The drivers are wondering around, honking their horns, and trying to get out of this mess like little birds. “Are we …show more content…
I try to get out of the hot wrenching car and escape the accident. I hear sirens (eeeeoooeeeooo) and all sorts of things. I get out and paramedics rescue me. I have bruises and scratches on my legs and arms. I am most worried about my family now. The left side of the car is now blocked off. It’s again super cold outside and all I see is snow on the ground. Cops try to rescue my family. I try to help and I can’t as cops hold me back. All I see now is scenes of the accidents. My family is rescued, but my sister is carried off right away on a stretcher going in the ambulance. All I could here is her crying and her in a stretcher. My family, without my sister, reunites and gives hugs. My parents are ok and just received some bruises and scratches. All of us are worried about my sister. Cops interview and ask some questions. And by the way, the little bastard who was driving beside us is safe. As we found out our sister is alive, she will be going through a major surgery for her head and arms. The cars are nearly crushed up. Our family is all crying and worried about our sister. I can’t really imagine having a sister who is injured really bad. Well, I guess February 2nd is not our

Growing up, I noticed a lot of discussion about financial problems between my parents. It’s not that we were becoming poor, it was because of our growing family needing more supplies. My mother just gave birth to my little brother when I started noticing the financial issues my family were facing. As a little girl, I do not know how our finances worked all I knew was many bills were due and I knew it because when I was a little girl I liked to practice reading and those bill statements were the papers that attracted my interest due to its colorful paper.…

I never thought me, of all people, would experience such a sorrowful day. I have tried to forget it time and time again; but the reality is I will always remember every miniscule detail, moment, word, and facial expression on that particular day. My heart managed to shatter into a million pieces, leaving me without a reason to pursue my existence. My salty tears freely rolled down my warm cheeks, causing my eyes to burn sensationally. I remember mourning on the comforting shoulders of my family members, as they too were consumed by their feelings. The most valuable lesson that beared a reservation in my spirit was to cherish every moment and loved one, for tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone. I wish I could have fathom this reality before the climactic tragedy struck me like a ton of bricks. Although death is normal, it seemed almost foreign when it abducted the life of my favorite uncle.…

I immediately get out of the passenger door and run to my dad and give him a big hug. I hop up into my dad’s white, Chevy truck, sobbing my eyes out, still hysterical of what happened and can’t quite catch a grasp on it. My dad talks for about five minutes to the Deputy Sheriff and Mr. Schimp, asking if I will still be able to pass Driver’s Ed, even though I thought it would be better for myself to quit , so I never had to get back to…

On April 15, 2016, I was practicing driving with my dad in a parking lot because I had a Driver’s Education test the next day. After I came home, I was very tired and started eating some strawberry mousse. My friend suddenly called me and I ran upstairs to my room. I answered the call and she looked very sad. She told me that my other friend’s dad had past away that morning. She started crying and I started crying right away as well. I had many questions to be answered in my head such as how, when, why, what. The only fact my friend knew was that the reason of death was a car accident. I just could not believe how such a horrible event could happen to someone so close to me. We cried and mourned the whole night and tried to think of a way to support our friend in the best possible way. Our friend came to school the next day and she said she was doing good and that she didn’t want to stay at her house because nothing would happen if she did. I gained a new perspective of life from that experience because it showed me that I really need to keep my friends close and my family even closer, to live everyday to the fullest so I won’t have any regrets, and that anything can happen unexpectedly. My coming-of-age process involved discovering many new…

I am so thankful that my dad and I were alright and that no one was injured in the accident. We had gotten a rental car and proceeded with our trip to Florida. I bought a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta when I got settled in and it ended being even nicer than my Volvo ever was. Now, even when bad things happen, I have started to always look for the silver lining. I believe that everything happens for a reason and when something tragic happens, it only means that there is something better in store in the…

Alicia is a 23 year Caucasian woman that was born without any disabilities. For most of her life she was a temporarily able-bodied person, just like me, with the mentality that nothing tragic could happen to her. She went on to explain how and when her mentality changed. She began, “It was a beautiful spring day….May 23, 2007. We were riding to his parents’ house for a family dinner when it happened….The driver did not stop.” I was completely engaged at this point. It was tragic. A truck driver was coming off of the freeway too fast and tried to beat the traffic light at the top of the ramp. He went through the light and smashed right into the side…

Irritated by my mom’s nagging, I mumbled nonsense between my teeth, and slowly buckled up my seatbelt. Then, I took out my earphones to enjoy my favorite music. My mother was trying to drive into the parking lot when all of sudden, a motorcycle suddenly came towards us. The man on the motorcycle was driving at a speed of approximately 40 miles per hour, and he was going so fast that he couldn’t control anything. My mom tried her best to change the direction of the car, but she wasn’t fast enough, causing the two vehicles to crash into each other. As soon as our car slammed into the motorcycle, the man’s body went flying into the air, and the motorcycle was knocked down to the ground. The man with dark brown eyes and a mustache deeply injured…

Today they seem sadder than usual, I can’t do anything to cheer them up; they keep hugging me and crying, it make me feel like I can’t do anything for them anymore. When I was younger I could cheer them up in a second, but now I can barely run by there side. This really limits what we can do together today, no parks, runs , or frisbee throwing of any sorts. Even with the medicine they have been giving me doesn’t work anymore. I hope today will get better for all members of my family. I think it will definitely get better now that we are going for a car ride; they still look so sad, this makes me feel anxious, where are we going? They stop the car and carry me in a building I have never been in before. I see more people they are in white, and look scary to me; but it’s fine, if my family is okay I will be okay. The lady shows us into a room where the put me on a table, my family stays and pets me and tells me that they love me; I love them too and I show it the way I always have. They are leaving, why? Then just out of nowhere Dale, with all his arm strength turned the wheel all the way to the left defying the gravity of the car. He drifted Derp almost out of the corner of the street with me holding on for dear life. I could just picture my face; wide smile, hair everywhere, one hand holding tight on the seatbelt strap and the other outside the window fighting the mighty pressure of the air. And then it all just became a blur as everything came so fast and then just stopped at a split second. There was a minute of a haze of headlights, a series of extreme blasting of horns, tires screeching and curses from the other driver. The driver didn’t get out but instead just drove away fast like he was driving a getaway vehicle.…

Days went by like years. Months went by like decades. Suddenly, the thick air hit me and the clouds grew thicker, making it seem harder to breathe. Looking up at the arrival time of his train, I thought, He’s late! I panicked. The worry in the pit of my stomach was unbearable, gnawing like wolves on a dead animal. My head was spinning, pounding, aching from his absence. My heart felt like exploding, I could hardly contain myself. He will be back, he has to be. We need him back, we are falling apart. We need him to care for us, love us, and hold us tight. It is my job to take…

Ever since I was born my godmother has been to every major even in my life until 2006, when Beverly got diagnosed with uterine cancer. Since that day, I watched her get weaker and weaker and struggled through a lot of pain. The doctor’s prognosis stated she would only last six months. Seeing her this way made me terrified that any day she could die and I wouldn’t be able to see her again. I was sitting in a restaurant along with my parents. The restaurant was on the first floor and we could see the busy Western Express Highway from the window. I was watching the cars, buses, and trucks speeding by. Just then I saw a bus trying to overtake another bus, but the gap was a bit narrow. The bus driver lost control and his bus hit the divider. It ran on the divider for a few seconds and then to my horror, it overturned. “Oh God,” I shouted. The overturned bus skidded and stopped in the middle of the road. My father too was watching the incident as it happened. He immediately called the Police and Ambulance from his cell phone. Meanwhile a huge rush had gathered near the overturned bus. Luckily there were only a few passengers in the bus who started coming out of the bus from the emergency window one by one. They were all hurt and some of them were bleeding. The public helped them come out of the bus and made them sit on one side.…

I miss them already. Despite the freezing cold snow and the nipping air, we had a lovely Christmas break. As I inspect my child, now grown with children of her own, holding tickets back to their home, longing envelopes me. Hoards of people push past, unaware of my pain, on their own schedules and heading toward different trains, talking and texting on their cell phones. My family boards, time as if in slow-motion, and motions goodbye until I see them again. I can't do anything but wave, a fake smile upon my face as my heart breaks, and a flood of sadness washes over me. My house, filled with laughter and family just the day before, will return to stillness and neatness once I pull into the driveway. The wheels grind on the track, creating sparks…

Entering a road that I assumed is the Old Road, it looked very mistrustful and mysterious but I still took it. If I was wrong I would just make a U-Turn and return to the major road. I have never used the Old Road before so I was a little afraid of what we might encounter on this journey, so I told everyone to wind up their windows. While making our way up the road, we spotted rusty old car parts, some burned cars and heaps of garbage along the roadside. Ten minutes later down the road and I was fully convinced that I had taken the wrong road, so did my friends. I made a U-Turn in a side street. On our way back up the road we cud see a man wearing a yellow and orange striped shirt running towards the car. We did not know where he came from but it looked like he appeared from some nearby bushes. He threw a brick through the windscreen and it came caving in. The entire glass chattered and covered the front seat. My friend Abigail whom was sitting in the passenger’s seat got the worst of the fragments of glass. It covered her entire legs and when I looked down there was a lot of blood. Everyone was screaming and panicking and mostly in shock as to what just took place. The man then tried to open the back left passenger door. Luckily my friend Susan, who was sitting there, managed to close it back with speed. As soon as I saw that I knew that something had to be done quickly, so I put the car back in…
