Personal Narrative: New Orleans
The move wasn’t that difficult for me. Sure, I was sad to leave all of my friends and my great grandmother, but there was a whole new world waiting for me up there. In 2008, we drove 12 hours, leaving New Orleans, Louisiana behind and entering our new home, Charlotte, North Carolina. New Orleans only had one season: hot and humid. During what everyone else called “the winter”, it was just a little less hot and humid. During what they called “the summer”, it was extra hot and humid. But, no matter what month or day - it was always hot and humid. When I moved to Charlotte, for the first time in my life, I experienced all four seasons of the year. Countless trees would change their leaves into different colors. And after all the leaves fell, they would be replaced by little buds of green. There was also a magical event when cold, solid precipitation fell down from the sky, covering all of the earth’s ground with a beautiful blanket of white. The only solid thing that would ever fall from the sky in New Orleans was the occasional beads and cups thrown at you during a Mardi Gras parade. In North Carolina, we would huddle around the bright burning fire to keep safe from the cold weather. In Louisiana, we …show more content…
New Orleans is the epicenter of cajun food, so there was no way the knock off Charlotte cajun food could even come close in comparison. From gumbo to Po'boys and fresh oysters to crabs, New Orleans had it all. Instead of eating turkeys and mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving, my family and friends would gather around the table with piles of crawfish in the center. For dessert, we would go to the local cafe and order fresh beignets, a fried dough covered with mountains of powdered sugar. Even the Popeyes tastes different in North Carolina than in Louisiana. They lost all of the spiciness and tanginess the chicken in Louisiana held. They may try to serve “Louisiana fast” but of course not “Lousiana

The niche of putting alcohol in food at Liquor demonstrates how anything could happen in New Orleans. If any other city were to try putting alcohol in every single food they served, it would be deemed crazy. New Orleans is just open to any sort of gimmick and is willing to try it. The fact that Liquor was able to successfully take off and stay in business goes to show how much New Orleanians love their alcohol. Even though it is…

Over the past summer I had the opportunity to go to Deep Impact in Shelby, North Carolina. Deep Impact is a mission camp that is run by The Baptist Men that gathers youth groups throughout the state to help the needy and to spread the Word of Jesus. There were different mission teams at the camp and I was placed on a construction team. On my construction team, we helped elderly and disabled people by building wheelchair ramps for them. The construction team had three supervisors, and they made the kids on the team do most of the work. We would do different kinds of work like digging out holes for posts, saw boarding, or screwing in decking boards. I really enjoyed this kind of work and it really made me feel good that when we finished, we were…

Saigon, a small city situated in South Vietnam, is where I grew up. It’s not a big city; however, its population has been growing rapidly in the past decade. New immigrants from different part of the country keep coming toward us for higher-paid jobs and modern technologies. Unlike the U.S, Vietnam is not a developed country. We have low standards living condition; some parts of the country even have no electricity; crimes and violations happen frequently because people want to escape from poverty; etc. Growing up in a country consisted of those characteristics, I was taught to be ambitious and to push myself hard enough to reach higher goals. It is the bad condition in my country that harbors my dreams to come to the US and to get access to…

I am outside today with a couple other S.S. Soldiers we saw a Jewish man who had some weird curls so we decided to stop him and surround him and make fun of his hair and outfit. Many of the S.S. Soldiers have taken over homes of the Jews. Also today is the last day for all the Jews to move into the ghetto. While the Jews are walking to the ghetto some kids are standing on the sidewalk while screaming and throwing things at them one girl was even screaming “Goodbye Jews.” Once the Jews got into the Ghetto many of us were sitting or standing in the snow giving all the Jews their cards.…

This summer, I was blessed with an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to travel to Haiti on a mission trip. Of course, I was slightly nervous about traveling to a third world country, where I did not know the language, and the only people I would know would be the people from the church that I was traveling with. However, I knew this would be a life changing experience, so I took the leap! I am so grateful I did because every second was worth it! Our mission was to work with orphans, help homeschool English speaking children, and meet with the women’s group of Grand Savann Christian Church.…

I was a tall skyscraper that was known to the world as World Peace Through Trade. In 1946, the New York Legislature came up with a group called The World Trade Corporation and they developed The World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. In 1958, the World Trade Center Corporations hired three guys named Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill to come up with a design for me. A year later the designs were released to the public. By the time they actually started constructing me it was August of 1968. It only took a few years for them to build me and it was December 23, 1970 when I was finally done being built. I was 1,368 feet tall, making me the world’s tallest building at the time. So many people worked their that the i had my own zip code Many companies came in and used me for space to have offices. Some businesses moved in even before I was done being built to claim their spots. Many workers would bring their children and leave them in the daycare that i had. Not only was I an office building but I had a restaurant on the 107th floor. It was called The Windows of the World. Along with a restaurant I also had a subway that had a stop underground for all the people who either worked in my tower or nearby. There were so many activities you could do besides just working. I had an observation deck for tourists to come and see the…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…
