Personal Narrative: My Undergrad Degree In Social Work

In the developmental systems theory, a person is not only biology, only psychology, or only social system. Rather, the individual is a combination of those systems, which is referred to as biopsychosocial. Social workers must see the multiple levels of organization that exist within a human’s development as part of a complex developmental system. Social workers have to take into account the interactions of multiple factors in assessing clients and situations. Usually our backgrounds are more in the field of psychology and sociology, but we must not forget the importance of the biophysical aspect of a person-in-environment. I find myself leaning towards the social dimension, because of my undergrad degree in social science, a lot of my education has been in human groups, culture, and society. Now that I am aware of the equal importance of biology, I will need to study up on medical research.
More of my interests are in the social dimension and how that has affected my behavior. There are some good things that my parents did and I would like to model with my children, such as having a structured bedtime and morning routine. I feel this has contributed to me being extremely organized and good with making plans. There are other things I would like to do different with my children, for instance what type of foods I provide when cooking meals. Other areas are going to be contributed to the period in which my child is born. When I was young, electronic screens were not a huge part of our life. We had one tv, later getting a Sega game system, and a game boy, but the important age of 0-5, I spent the majority of my time exploring my world and relationships.
