Personal Narrative: My Trip To Washington
Another trip I went on was to Washington. I saw all of the important buildings there. I also went and saw a lot of art museums. The best thing I saw there was the senate building. Inside there was a tour guide who showed me where the laws were made and how. I also got to see where Abraham lincoln sat in the senate. The art museums in Washington were also very cool. There were lots of famous pieces and it was very interesting. There were lots of paintings of past U.S presidents and I got to see many of Abraham Lincoln. Overall Washington was a very fun trip and It taught me a lot about politics in the U.S

I walked into the doors of Statehouse Expo Center, my feet walking with the sound of my bag rolling over the little cracks on the light floor tile, my white uniform as crisp as a fall breeze. With every step further, I could see more people. Lots more people. The mats filled with people. People who spend their whole lives working to be where they are, on those mats. Sparring, combat, weapons and forms. XMA in one corner, Black Belts in another corner, everyone else in a corner and staging in a corner. All surrounded by a Sr. Master or the occasional Master. When we get to a tournament, our team always meets up. Then all the kids go explore. We found our team and all the kids put away their IPads and Kindle Fires.…

In eighth grade, the 2018 graduates including me visited Washington D.C. After months of preparing we finally landed in the Capitol. Truth be told I wasn’t in a really great mood, before I leaving I had an allergic reaction to a spray of Axe. Many events happened during the trip, but the most memorable event was viewing the Vietnam Memorial. The two 250 feet long obsidian colored walls stood at eight inches and met at at their highest point 10 feet.…

Last year, I was one of three high school Juniors chosen by my local electric cooperative to join students from across Arkansas in a trip to Washington D.C. During this trip, our group visited all the usual tourist spots in Washington: the Capitol Building, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Smithsonian among others. But of the sites we visited, the ones that affected me most were the places related to President Thomas Jefferson. Previous to this trip, I knew very little about Jefferson, and even wondered what he did to deserve a place on Mount Rushmore. However, this trip exposed me to Jefferson in an entirely new way. We visited Monticello, his home in Virginia, where I learned about Jefferson’s broad interests in science, architecture, and philosophy,…

If I had harnessed the ability to travel through time, I would choose to experience 1960’s Washington D.C.. The city was struck with such large amounts of heartbreak, but at the same time, many people had more courage than they’ve ever had. I would spend the first couple of hours exploring the riots on the roads, the segregation present in the shops, and just how people felt in this time.…

Throughout my life, I have had to make many choices. Some have been quite simple such as, whether to have a cookie or ice cream, or quite difficult such as, trying to decide where I wanted to go to college. All these choices, big or small, have made me who I am today. Certain choices have taught me lessons about what not to do in life, while other choices have made me grow stronger in my moral character. One such choice was whether or not to take part in my church’s mission trip called Impact Virginia. I had the choice between spending a week of my summer relaxing at home, or outside working on houses for people in need. I can honestly say at that time it was a difficult choice. I had never gone on a mission trip, so I had never known how…

My political viewpoint has changed dramatically since I was first introduced to politics. I come from a democratic family, where it is strongly believed that it is the government’s responsibility to care for all people and that the government knows what is best for all people. Every voting season, my parents vote for a democratic president and explain to me the reasoning behind their decision. It was not until I was in the tenth grade that I realized that I did not hold the same political beliefs as my parents. After taking several political quizzes and extensively researching the bevy of political parties, I now know that I am an independent. What is an independent? An independent is an individual politician not affiliated to any political…

Hey guys! Today I went on a crazy adventure to somewhere I have never been before! I flowed down a cascade mountain range and into the amazing and beautiful Columbia river. My friends I met in the mountains and are now headed to the mouth/ delta of the river the Pacific ocean where we will hopefully be evaporated again. We just exited the headwaters and will be entering some tributaries along our journey. Although, this river doesn’t have many dangers I am concerned of entering a creek because I like going straight to the ocean to be evaporated again because water droplets like me love to travel! This has been a pretty easy journey so far but I have got to say I have been a bit chilly. The weather down here has been around 25-30 degrees so that…

The night of April, 18, 1775 I was abruptly woken up by some random man running through Boston yelling “The British are coming, the British are coming!” I was not very happy of getting less than a hour of sleep. This weird man came through around 10:30 PM and woke everyone in the town from there sleep. At first when I heard him say that phase I did not know what he meant by it. I then gathered with my neighbors outside and was told if I wanted to fight the British I had to sign my name on the books in the city hall later that evening. When I went to that meeting later that night they told me to go home get a pound of bread a flask of water and my gun, and to also get a little rest and when the drums sound go stand on the green. So I went home and rested a little and then said my goodbyes to little Johnny and Benjamin. Until we all heard the drums. I then went with my…

This summer I had the opportunity to visit New York City and was able to tour campus. As soon as I stepped foot on the grounds I felt at home. The quiet campus seemed like a great escape from the bustling city. All of the students I met seemed very welcoming and willing to help out new students. I've grown up in Oklahoma City and realize that moving to New York will be a big adjustment. Barnard provides the support I will need to become comfortable in this new environment. I also value how hard Barnard works to support all the women that attend. The opportunities and doors they have opened for all graduates is inspirational. I want to attend a college that is dedicated to their students. A college where women support each other instead of tearing…

On Saturday April 13, 2013 I was walking through the parking garage on the USAA campus in San Antonio, TX to start my 4 hour work shift, I began to go through the turnstile and seemingly startled awake a bat. This bat began to fly and squeal in fear. It darted at my head getting caught in my hair a couple times. I started to scream and flail my arms about trying to fend off the nocturnal flying mammal in fear. During what seemed to be forever I was able to unlock the turnstile and exit the entry way but not before rupturing two discs in my neck. This incident caused quite the turn of events in my life. I had been working for USAA for 3 years and truly loved it there. I also lived in a beautiful apartment with my mother and two children and…

America, land of the free and home of the brave, a country strengthened with rights, equality, and justice. For Americans it’s just a regular country, with regular rules and laws, nothing special about it. Although, to immigrants it’s a country to reinterpret their lives, a better life, a life where they’re free to pursue their happiness and follow their dreams. Even though America is a great country, adjusting to a new culture isn’t easy. It took patience, support, understanding, and passion in order for me to balance two different cultures.…

Have you ever visited Washington DC? Last night, I watched a TV program about Washington. Did you see it, too. If it’s on again, be sure to see it. What an interesting city Washington is. Dr. A Rogers, the narrator, took us viewers on a tour of the White house. Did you know that the White House esn’t painted white until 1817. If I were Washington, I’d like to tour the United States Capitol at the foot of Pennsylvania Avenue. I’d also visit the Smithsonian’s two underground museums: the Arthur M Sackler Gallery of Asian Art and the National Museum of African Art. Last year, my sister visited the Holocaust Museum, but she didn’t have time to see the National Air and Space Museum because her plane left at 1:30 p.m..…
