Personal Narrative: My Trip To Oklahoma City
This summer I had the opportunity to visit New York City and was able to tour campus. As soon as I stepped foot on the grounds I felt at home. The quiet campus seemed like a great escape from the bustling city. All of the students I met seemed very welcoming and willing to help out new students. I've grown up in Oklahoma City and realize that moving to New York will be a big adjustment. Barnard provides the support I will need to become comfortable in this new environment. I also value how hard Barnard works to support all the women that attend. The opportunities and doors they have opened for all graduates is inspirational. I want to attend a college that is dedicated to their students. A college where women support each other instead of tearing

In my freshman year, I went to Ohio Mission Trip, which was led by Mrs. Lundquist. While I had an amazing life experience through volunteering, I was able to become closer to my friends and upper classmen. Darby and Sydney Lundquist also joined the trip, and they shortly introduced me about Washington and Lee University. I assumed the college should be very advanced since they were well-known for their excellence in intelligence and sports. This year I attended a college meeting with Mr. Webster to get to know more about the college. It was a great opportunity for me to grasp a big picture of the school as well as more specific details of admissions. I immediately fell in love with the school as Mr. Webster explained about the school in detail.…

Both sides of my family have contributed to my personal Tulsa history. Whether it is my mother's parents growing up just outside the military base in Midwest City, a small town just outside of Oklahoma City, or my father’s parents growing up in small farm towns in Oklahoma before moving to Tulsa to raise my father, Oklahoma is in my DNA. My mother’s parents met in high school in Midwest City and ended up going to the University of Oklahoma together for college. After this, my grandfather joined the Marines and had to leave Oklahoma to travel all around the world, but his love for Oklahoma football and his passion for his hometown of Midwest City always forced him to remember his home. Even after settling down in Kansas City to raise my…

In my experience, I don’t think I am reluctant to a specific identity. Houston is a very diverse city that people can find almost any type of music genre. In my community there are Hispanic and African American families. The music that is heard is of all kinds from “R&B, Pop music, Reggae, to Cumbia, Bachata and Regional Mexicano.” I have lived in the same community ever since I was born and in my opinion, I have grown up listening to the different types of music genres. This has shaped my identity to be open to different music genres and traditions.…

Although I can’t answer all the questions about how I’ll do it, I’m certain that I want to make a difference in the world. Barnard’s atmosphere and its joint theater program are the main factors that have influenced me to apply. Academically, Barnard is known for its intimate learning environment. I’ve spent my entire life going from one close-knit group to the next. Whether it was Taekwondo, Dance, Theater, or The Commonwealth Governor’s School, each of those groups were empowering, nurturing, and noble in their own individual ways. Barnard embodies all of those qualities, which is what I find attractive. Also, the joint-program for theater really speaks to me because it’s my personal belief that collaborative endeavors create true art. It’s true art that touches the lives of those who work on it and those who see it.…

Growing up in New York City has been one of my biggest blessing. I’ve met with so many different personalities and cultures that I feel more well rounded by default. One thing that I’ve always found lacking in the city is the presence of small stable communities. My elementary school had 800 kids and my high school has over 5000 kids. Barnard offers the best of both worlds for meーa small college community situated in the best city in the world.…

It all started when we left from the hotel around five o’clock, hoping to get to the CN Tower on time. We were on vacation in Toronto in mid July, we had just arrived here a day ago from Niagara Falls. When we left we would have never imagined that this would be one of the longest walks some of us have taken. Pleasantly, we left for the CN Tower, which we thought couldn’t be a great amount of distance from our hotel. We were wrong!…

The day of September 1, I missed class to be with my family in Memphis. My mom wanted everyone in our immediate family to gather together because my brother was leaving for the army. It was such an exciting week because I haven’t been home to see them in about year prior. My brother has recently graduated from high school and also turned 18. I am beyond proud of the person he has become, so to see him all grown up making the decision to leave home brought tears to my eyes.…
