Personal Narrative: My Trip To Colorado
There’s a certain moment in my life that really stands out to me. It was the day I went to Colorado. The day got out to an excellent start. It was my first time getting on a plane. My grandmother had told me the different ways the Navy and Air force take off. Our pilot was definitely in the Navy before because he took off going up as soon as he could, that was my favorite part of the flight. I was also thrilled that we were high up in the sky. Everything below was so tiny and we were above the clouds.

After landing in Colorado, I had to take a light rail to baggage claim. Then I met up with my grandmother and grandfather. When we left the airport, the first thing I saw was a giant bronco with red eyes. After we got off the highway, we went

It all started when a few days before summer break began last year when I overheard my step-dad and uncle talking about a hiking trip in Colorado that we were going to take sometime in the month of early July. So I just let it be and was going to see and find out if I was going to go along with them. long story short, I got a really, really early Christmas present from my mom and step-dad. My feet ached as I passed through the automatic screen door to the snow filled Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport parking lot. The cool, crisp air stung my face, but my smile remained. Seven slow years have passed since I visited Crested Butte, Colorado, and I have been craving to return the moment I left. The towering mountains, blissful blue sky, and blinding white snow from the piercing sun makes Colorado a place like no other. I stood waiting on the icy concrete for my dad to pull around Baby Blue, a 1996 Chevrolet Astro van my family had nicknamed. My family visited Colorado in 2010, because my mom’s boss owns a timeshare condo, which included Baby Blue. He offered us a vacation to Crested Butte where we could have a free place to…

This spring I spent two-weeks in New York visiting my daughter and her family. I spend a lot of time in the city, and I love it, not only because my daughter has chosen to create and raise a family in Brooklyn, but also because of its walkability. I’m not much of a shopper, but I do like to watch other shoppers, particularly those who dress as if they’d like to be watched.…

I broke my arm today while getting on the freight train. Thank God I still have an arm unlike some of the other I have meet who have lost an arm or leg and some even know someone who has lost their life ( Riding the Rails). I have done this a couple of time now and I shouldn't have been so anxiety about it but I was. I hide under the track outside the yard like I normally do, waiting for the train to reach momentum so I could get on. I forgot to check for the bull guards who are hired to keep hoboes from jumping on freight. I guess I got too comfy with my environment( Riding the rails). Right when I was getting on the trains, I heard the bull guards yelling and chasing after me. It threw me off my balance and I nearly fell off the train. I…

“How are you feeling right now?” My father asked, I replied, “Excited.” This was in fact, an understatement. I had never seen or been to a natural reservation so highly known as the Grand Canyon. I have always been the type of person who enjoyed going camping or staying outside, appreciating the presence of nature. It was great news to hear. After weeks of planning, our family was on the road heading out to the Grand Canyon. After each hour, the lands we were crossing seemed to become more absent from human civilization. The expanding rocky prairie whizzed pass the car windows and reminded us of the purity of the land. Soon enough, we made it into Arizona, and then, finally, our destination.…

People know Vermont’s Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream and maple syrup better than they know Vermont itself. This was true for me as well: I had no idea where Vermont was before I actually stepped on this land three years ago. The town called Manchester was as rural as I could imagine, but it brought me a fresh living experience and inspired me to appreciate the beauty of nature.…

As a student I find myself seated in front of a computer screen for long hours at a time; likewise, it is my obligation as a student to use technology as a resource to further my comprehension in my degree. In my opinion a good excuse to be seated in front of a computer for long hours. It is easy to say that I find a lot of inspiration form online sources, blogs, and social media – which I do – however, I feel most inspired when I step away from the computer screen. I find inspiration in the ordinary; I love to travel and see new things, in this case this is where I found my inspiration. Along my travels to Whistler Mountain in previous winters I saw a portion of land that was clear-cut, but one tree stood alone covered in snow. This piece…

On Saturday April 13, 2013 I was walking through the parking garage on the USAA campus in San Antonio, TX to start my 4 hour work shift, I began to go through the turnstile and seemingly startled awake a bat. This bat began to fly and squeal in fear. It darted at my head getting caught in my hair a couple times. I started to scream and flail my arms about trying to fend off the nocturnal flying mammal in fear. During what seemed to be forever I was able to unlock the turnstile and exit the entry way but not before rupturing two discs in my neck. This incident caused quite the turn of events in my life. I had been working for USAA for 3 years and truly loved it there. I also lived in a beautiful apartment with my mother and two children and…
