“We finally get to leave for South Dakota today.” Brody said. “ I know I can't wait to get there, but it's going to take 13 hours to get there.” I said. “Yea but we can sleep the whole way there and when we get there it’s going to be lots of fun.” Brody said. “That is true, well ok I am going to sleep I will see you when we get to South Dakota.” I said.…
It all started when a few days before summer break began last year when I overheard my step-dad and uncle talking about a hiking trip in Colorado that we were going to take sometime in the month of early July. So I just let it be and was going to see and find out if I was going to go along with them. long story short, I got a really, really early Christmas present from my mom and step-dad. A hiking trip to the Rocky Mountains!…
I lied to my family, my friends and myself. Even before I accepted Fort McMurray as my home, the lies I verbally regurgitated became more real to me than the reality that I was participating in. Eventually, the reality I thought I had control over was in fact the reality that I lost control over. Throughout this three part essay I will attempt to explore the following: first, addressing why I began to construct lies that affected my perception of Fort McMurray from the beginning to now; second, how the interconnectedness of my life and the price of a barrel of oil dictated decisions affecting my personal and professional life; third, including alternative perspectives from interviewing local individuals in addition to examining other global…
In eighth grade, the 2018 graduates including me visited Washington D.C. After months of preparing we finally landed in the Capitol. Truth be told I wasn’t in a really great mood, before I leaving I had an allergic reaction to a spray of Axe. Many events happened during the trip, but the most memorable event was viewing the Vietnam Memorial. The two 250 feet long obsidian colored walls stood at eight inches and met at at their highest point 10 feet.…
I grew up in Titusville FL, a small town know for being the perfect viewing spot to watch the space shuttles launch from Cape Canaveral. The town was so small I could walk from one end to the other with in an hour. My favorite thing to do was to walk to a nearby lake and relax with with my friends, we would fish and climbed tree for…
It was 6:00 when my mom woke us up, then she said “Get ready to go we're leaving to cedar point today” “why this early in the morning?” because we have to get on the road so we can make it as far as we can.…
Have you ever suffered? Did you get better or never quite recover? Did you find your lover laying with another? I did. No one tells you how cruel the world can be, or how to cope with tragedy and pain. I had been out of town for months away in the Army, and had come back to no warm welcome. My life, my love, my fiancée was with another. I had always held on deeply to her whispering seductively in my ear “always”, but always is valueless and I wish I never heard her speak a word. Loves funny, the way one day it’s there and the next it’s not. It doesn’t ask to be excused and once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. Looking back on when we were together, before this monster came in to wreak his havoc, maybe I never tried hard enough and it’s my fault.…
Hi, I was going on a trip to Maryland and I want to know if you will come with me. My sister, Dad, and I was looking for places to go and there is an extra bed. The reason I picked you is because there are great places to eat, Amazing parks, and the Boardwalk.…
Frist have you ever been to Devils Tower? This summer my family and I went to Devils Tower. When we made it to Devils Tower, we looked up and saw Devils Tower and people were climbing Devils Tower, one person fell down but there safety gear saved them. My brother, Dad and I climbed the edges of Devils Tower while we were climbing, I could smell the sweet scent of pine trees. My brother and I we kept slipping and I fell (slip) and felt the burn on my leg. When we arrived to the highest point we, could I could hear the sounds of nature as I saw trees and the landscape for miles. Devils Tower has a walk you can go on but not thro Devils Tower also there is a bigger walk you can go on which is a couple miles. The pine…
My significant event is about my sixth grade trip to the Woodlands. It was right before the school day started, and the sky was blue and clear. After everyone was accounted for, it was a brief bus ride up the road to the Woodlands. Although I was nervous about going, that all went away because it was a beautiful day to bask in the woods, and socialize. The first day we were there, we were initiated, and we had to create woodsey nicknames for ourselves. We all hung out together outside the Mess Hall and enjoyed the sun.…
The holiday season, a time meant for the celebration of chilly weather and cheerful greetings, is perhaps the most celebrated time in America. Each year, millions of high school students embrace the promises of the holidays as an opportunity for rest, relaxation, and freedom from the confines of scholarly pursuit. I, being one of many students weighed down by the stress of finals and academia, eagerly anticipated my holiday break that would begin the second week of December. For weeks, I planned out what I would do with my abundance of free time so that I would enjoy each day to the maximum capacity. I resolved to travel to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where I would experience the scenic snow-capped mountains, bustling village towns, and adventurous…
As a student I find myself seated in front of a computer screen for long hours at a time; likewise, it is my obligation as a student to use technology as a resource to further my comprehension in my degree. In my opinion a good excuse to be seated in front of a computer for long hours. It is easy to say that I find a lot of inspiration form online sources, blogs, and social media – which I do – however, I feel most inspired when I step away from the computer screen. I find inspiration in the ordinary; I love to travel and see new things, in this case this is where I found my inspiration. Along my travels to Whistler Mountain in previous winters I saw a portion of land that was clear-cut, but one tree stood alone covered in snow. This piece…
There’s a lot of great things I saw on my trip to Galveston, Texas. My favorite place there was the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, while I was there I got on the roller coaster… that was very interesting. There was kids scared to even get on it because a lot of different people were saying things about it. It was “scary” or maybe “you’ll fall off of it”, I was frightened. From far far away you can see the ships when you were around the beach. They looked sketchy, but, whenever I looked at it from far away I thought it was something else. I was on the beach and I was so scared because one of my good friends shot me a text and said:“You realize you’re at a place where there is sharks and a kid died there because of it a few weeks ago”.…
It was an extremely cool day in the Poconos Mountains, and we had made a reservation to go white water rafting. The next morning we had to wake up extra early to eat breakfast so we weren’t late for our trip. When my parents said, “were going white water rafting” I thought we were going straight down to the river , but of course it wasn’t.…
This Friday my family decided to go on a two week road trip to Canada with various stopovers in between, while I’m stuck at home alone because of school. At first my parents wanted me to go with them, but I had to decline because missing two weeks’ worth of school is basically saying you want to fail the semester. I am kind of bummed that I couldn’t make it to the trip but, I’m also kind of excited to be home alone for two weeks. This is by far the longest I would be left alone and having to ration my money for the two weeks. It’s good practice for college once I transfer out and head off to a dorm or rent an apartment. So far the only thing different I’ve noticed about my solitary life compared to life with my family is that I have a lot…
