First off, trip to Vietnam was truly a blessing. I did not expect so much of the trip until the first day I arrived Vietnam. On my first day, I got an opportunity to meet many great people who were selfless; those who cared more about others rather than themselves. It took approximately 14hours in total to arrive at hotel. Even though the plane ride was only about 5hours, since it was a group trip, it took extra time to ensure everyone is in right place. I brought my friend, Mariah, along with me for my first experience. We are on our way to Puerto Rico from Florida, which means we will be going through the Bermuda Triangle. There have been a lot of rumors about people disappearing or being transported into the future when they go through the Bermuda Triangle. We started our tetris trip to Florida in a suburban for 12 hours scrunch up in a ball trying to sleep the whole way down but you know how that goes you never get to sleep the whole way down. I usually play my phone games or play music,if I have internet. We finally get out of Kentucky and in Tennessee to stop to get some gas and use the bathroom,but if you're ever on a trip and you go in to use the bathroom and you see all those snacks so you want to buy one because you're hungry. The first time I ever went to Cape Fear River was on July 10 2014. I begged my parents to let me go that morning and finally they said “ pack up your clothes and all the sleeping gear so we can go and you can be quite.’’ I called my buddies and they all said meet y’all there at the Lock Dam 3. We went to the farm and got our 14 foot War Eagle Jon boat. We left the house around twelve o’clock and we took off for Walmart to buy some delicious steaks,soft bread and some crickets to fish with. We meet one of my buddies in the walmart parking lot. He was buying some comfortable sleeping bags and a blow up mattress to slip inside the tent so we wouldn’t have to sleep on that cold,hard sand. Four years as a Reconnaissance Marine taught me professional pride, integrity, team work and self-determination. I made many lifelong friends in the Corps and learned many lifelong lessons from my mistakes. Growing up my dad and his two sisters were always vocal about how they grew up in a poor household. My grandpa maintained a steady income that was only enough to pay bills and put food on the table. My granny was a stay at home mom that would pick up jobs here and there being a maid. So, there money was very tight and vacationing was out of the question. One day my grandpa decides that he wants to walk on sandy beach barefoot and pick up pretty seashells. So, he packed up his family and drove from Dallas to Galveston with only the rent money in his pocket. And from there the Lacy’s summer vacation to Galveston has been in full effect. I grew up in a two small towns called Ruston, La and Grambling, La. I spent my childhood in Ruston and my teenage years in Grambling. The two towns are so small it's like 1 small town almost. I enjoyed my childhood there. It was a place where kids were free to run and play.
