Personal Narrative: My Trip To Baltimore With RCC
Being able to go to Baltimore with RCC would mean a lot to me. This is my last semester before I graduate and then I will be in school to be a paramedic; so this will be my last opportunity to have one of these once in a lifetime experiences with my classmates. I have made several life long friendships while going on these trips and have been able to see more of the United States then I probably ever would have. From listening to Mr. Martin I have learned how to appreciate art and now I go into a museum and am excited instead of bored. I have been able to stand in places that history was made and see just how much we are not taught but how readily available it is to us if we just look. I have learned invaluable life lessons while on these

I responded to 702 Spradley Drive in reference to a ems needed call. Upon arrival, I made contact with Kayla Benton. Benton advised that her brother (Michael Benton) was in his bedroom, unrespondsive. I walked in and observed Michael laying on the bed with Haynes performing CPR on Michael. After approxmiately 15 minutes of CPR, Haynes was able to gain a steady heart rate. On scene, I spoke with Michael's father. Michael's father stated that on this date, Michael stole $20 dollars out of his bank account. Michael's father advised that he told Michael that he was going to have him prosecuted the next business day. Michael then became upset and sent his father a text message in which stated, "bye dad". Michael's father advised that Michael was…

Over the past summer I had the opportunity to go to Deep Impact in Shelby, North Carolina. Deep Impact is a mission camp that is run by The Baptist Men that gathers youth groups throughout the state to help the needy and to spread the Word of Jesus. There were different mission teams at the camp and I was placed on a construction team. On my construction team, we helped elderly and disabled people by building wheelchair ramps for them. The construction team had three supervisors, and they made the kids on the team do most of the work. We would do different kinds of work like digging out holes for posts, saw boarding, or screwing in decking boards. I really enjoyed this kind of work and it really made me feel good that when we finished, we were…

On a humid summer day in Chicago, my family and I decided to take a long journey to visit my distant family/friend in the Upper East Side of Chicago. Although, the car ride seemed peaceful and smooth, little did I know this was a journey to the most horrific town I’ve ever seen.…

After keeping me in the hospital for a week to keep an eye on the baby, the doctor admitted me into the William's Rehab Center. 27 weeks have passed and I am now 37 weeks with Calum's child. My mom has been there for me in a very estranged way and barely makes any eye contact. I know that she is hurt that I am not following her dreams, but what can I do about it? Nothing, zilch.…

One of the oldest questions in philosophy is whether humans have free will. When I look in retrospective, my journey to Miami makes me wonder is everything predetermined. Ever since I was a kid, I had vivid dreams about a sunny beach, soft golden sand, palm’s waterfall, and beautiful girl who will love me unconditionally.…

Throughout my life, I have had to make many choices. Some have been quite simple such as, whether to have a cookie or ice cream, or quite difficult such as, trying to decide where I wanted to go to college. All these choices, big or small, have made me who I am today. Certain choices have taught me lessons about what not to do in life, while other choices have made me grow stronger in my moral character. One such choice was whether or not to take part in my church’s mission trip called Impact Virginia. I had the choice between spending a week of my summer relaxing at home, or outside working on houses for people in need. I can honestly say at that time it was a difficult choice. I had never gone on a mission trip, so I had never known how…

A day in Memphis is not complete without the diversity in our community. As a second generation Memphian who has primarily lived in Midtown, I had the privilege of watching several different cultures in one place and especially now that I attended one of the largest public schools. Daily, I experience someone else’s world. The people I get to meet and see are from various backgrounds: race, religion, ethnicity, etc. that I may never comprehend, which is wonderful. In Memphis, it is normal to be an enigma, to have idiosyncrasies. I believe that is the heart of Memphis. What makes this heart surpass discrimination is the acceptance that follows years of diversity. My neighborhood has single mothers whose children play with the neighborhood adolescents.…

“Wow! I did not know there were black Americans”. During the month I was in China, I heard this or a variant of it jokily said to me numerous times. I never took offense to it since I understood most of the media from America that came to China featured individuals who did not look like me. Furthermore, for those Americans who had come to China, they were mostly white and had come for business. While in China, I was able to share my experience as an African-American; I always found enjoyment sharing my experiences and it seemed to me those around me found enjoyment learning about a different side of America. With me sharing my experiences, they were being able to understand the diverse nature of the United States.…

It all started when we left from the hotel around five o’clock, hoping to get to the CN Tower on time. We were on vacation in Toronto in mid July, we had just arrived here a day ago from Niagara Falls. When we left we would have never imagined that this would be one of the longest walks some of us have taken. Pleasantly, we left for the CN Tower, which we thought couldn’t be a great amount of distance from our hotel. We were wrong!…

The day of September 1, I missed class to be with my family in Memphis. My mom wanted everyone in our immediate family to gather together because my brother was leaving for the army. It was such an exciting week because I haven’t been home to see them in about year prior. My brother has recently graduated from high school and also turned 18. I am beyond proud of the person he has become, so to see him all grown up making the decision to leave home brought tears to my eyes.…

A certain childhood place always takes me back whenever I flip through my family’s dusty photograph books, and that place is an apartment area in which my family used to live in Arlington, VA. Honestly, I do not understand why this place is the first place to attest in my mind as beautiful. I doubt anyone could consider an apartment beautiful. What is more, I know there were times I despised the place; particularly, since I was the baby in my family, everyone left the apartment for either school or work, and I felt lonely. Nevertheless, perhaps, Arlington, VA was beautiful because I made it so in my mind.…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…
