To begin with, I was over my grandma's house on a warm and cozy summer night. When out of the blue my mom asks Me if I would rather go to school online or regular high school she stated that if I chose to go to school online I'll be going to a school named Penn foster. Because it would let me work at my own pace, it didn't cost too much, plus they would help me if I didn't quite understand one of my courses. My first thought was wow why the heck not! and blurted out yep I wanna go to school…

In 1752 I was a seventeen year old destitute living in Scotland, Ireland. I had no real skill-trade or education, but with high ambitions to learn and become a collective dependant I would earn a stable lively-hood in one of the New World colonies. I suffered losses of loved who fell sick and died with only a few remaining that were as impoverished as myself. I feared there would be no prospect of a better life in Scotland and contracted myself as an indentured servant for passage to the New World colonies. Along with many others I boarded a New World merchant ship that specialized in the trade of textiles and clothing. In exchange for travel, food, and decent health, I was sold for profit to proprietors in the New World. The voyage to New…

My first few weeks of classes at UW-Platteville have surprisingly been fun and brought many opportunities of clubs I did not think I would join. When I imagined going to college for the first time, I thought I would cry and be homesick. To not be homesick I told myself to be involved with the Welcome Weekend activities and it worked! My classes were intimidating on the first day, but now that we have had many classes I am comfortable. I am using my time management skills everyday because I have many meetings to attend. Overall, I am glad I choose to continue my education at UW-Platteville because it feels like home.…

Frightening rapid explosion of loud bursting shots, brass shell casings hitting the floor one after another. Car windows busting out, glass flying everywhere. Metal fragments piercing holes all through the parked vehicles. Terrified citizens flinching their hands, curling up as they run away from the outrageous gun slinging of two individuals. Having no mercy of shooting on the street corner during broad day light, was just another ordinary day of altercations. Unknowingly going downhill, doing everything from carrying pistols, corrupt racketeering to becoming addicted to fast money. My main problem was not feeling death. Partying as well as loving the luscious accompany with women, was my lust, till I saw I hit the floor.…

All throughout school I strived to be a great student, always trying my best and never giving up. I didn’t really have any life changing moments that shaped me into who I am today that is, until freshman year. That year everything changed for me I was faced with challenges I never had to face before. My brother and I are three in a half years apart and he went to Horizon High School for his freshman and sophomore year. He was a troublemaker to say the least didn’t have the best reputation so all the teachers there thought that I was just like him. When I started there no one really knew my name and then once they saw my last name they started to be rude to me and say rude things to me. Even when I did good on work I still got a bad grade just because the…

One day, while I was laying peacefully on my bed, my mother came in with a letter from Florida A&M University. I didn't really want to speculate anything because a few days before I received a letter from another college saying that I wasn't accepted. Nevertheless I was still excited when I opened it and even more so when I read that I had been accepted. So without much hesitation I packed up and headed to Tallahassee. When I arrived my mother and I took care of registration and a plethora of things you have to manage as a new student. After all the hassles of college registration were completed my mother departed for home and I was left by myself to attend college. What a great feeling! Little did I know what I had on store for the next day, my first in college.…

The event that I choose to follow summer fest was a simple and casual visit to the wellness and recreational center, fancy way of saying the gym. Upon my first ever visit to Florida International University I still remember at our freshmen orientation entering the gym and thinking to myself this seems like a place that I will be visiting often during my four year tenure at school. And boy was I right, the facility was clean and professional looking very much like a professional gym would appear, the staff where all kind and ready to assist you if help was ever necessary, something that I truly valued. I was extremely exited to take a spinning class at the FIU gym, I had only ever heard positive reviews and I was looking forward to the experience as well. Personally I am obsessed with fitness so any class, or activity is something that I love to experience which is what drove me to experience the class myself, and did, I love it. When I got out of that class I was sweating so much, I felt like I had gone on a run around the world and it so amazing, the instructor knew exactly what she was doing and had no problem helping you out if you needed it, the music was fun and exiting extremely up tempo. Overall I can only rave about the experience, it was positive and motivational. It has truly inspired me to no matter how stressed I may be I can always go down to the gym and relieve my stress while gaining a benefit as well.…

During my visit to Georgia Tech in the summer of 2014 I learned a lot about the Engineering program and life on campus. The part that caught my attention was the Internship program. After graduating I strive to become an Aerospace Engineer at one of the many aviation companies. During my tenure at Georgia Tech, I intend on pursuing an internship with Bombardier in Toronto. This will allow me to acquire the necessary workplace experience for the field in advance while also working towards my Masters in Engineering. The lifestyle I saw during my visit was very different from what I am used to seeing in my hometown. No matter what your interests are there will always be a group of people there to support your endeavors and support you at…

I was lucky enough to attend an extremely privileged private prep high school on the main line, and coming to Temple University was definitely a culture shock for me. It is not so much the urban environment, as it is the diverse student body that I am exposed to every day in my classes. Temple has given me the opportunity to take classes like Kids in Crisis that serve to shed light on difficult topics like racism, discrimination, and privilege that I was never exposed to at my high school, and for that, I am eternally grateful.…

I remember how when I first walked into a fraternity house on Vanderbilt's campus, I immediately thought that this was a place that I could never belong. Having a disability and identifying as gay, I thought that I had somehow faked my way into Vanderbilt and its perfect society. After a few months, I ended up feeling like I belonged at Vanderbilt more and I began to realize that there is no "perfect" Vanderbilt student. As I have become more involved in the Vanderbilt community, I have always looked for roles and activities that would allow me to make Vanderbilt more welcoming for others. Therefore as a resident advisor; I work to host programs that spotlight areas of campus that are not always given the credit they deserve. For example, my…

December 13th 2014 was one of the best days in my life. I still recall seeing my son and family in the stands as the president of the university mentioned for the family of the graduates to stand up and be recognized. I worked so hard that year and I was able to reach my goal and I am extremely proud of myself for that. As you can see in my transcript the last year I obtained above a 3.0 GPA in every semester. I am confident that if accepted I will work hard and do everything in my power to excel to the best of my abilities. My plan to raise my GPA is to organize myself and set time every day to study and go over class material. I understand that the graduate program is more difficult but I am determined to apply myself and get the grades needed to be successful. I look forward to learning a lot more in detail about my career field. I have a great desire to help people with disabilities explore their needs, manage their symptoms, and successfully live their lives. It is important to focus on a person’s capability rather than their disability. For this reason, I hold a special connection with this program and immense passion in raising public awareness about…
