Personal Narrative: My Shield Speech

I feel that I performed my informative speech very well. To prepare, I read through my notecards multiple times to engrain as much as I could into my brain so that I would have to use my cards as little as possible. When in front of the class, I felt much less nervous than during my Shield speech. Maybe this is because this speech was informative about a topic of my choosing instead of about myself. I felt like I knew my information and I knew what I was talking about, and I think that I did a pretty good job of giving eye contact because of this. I felt prepared which seemed to lessen my nerves. From where I was standing, I think that I did a good job of standing still and not fidgeting. I think that I expressed my speech well through good tone variance and kept a pretty good pace and volume throughout.

It is important to be informed about what we are talking about – especially when we are trying to argue in favor of it. Too often people go into arguments or debates without really knowing what they are talking about and this leads to senseless fighting and time wasting. Honestly, this is one of the (many, many) problems in our world. We get caught up in the moment, we don’t really think through what we are going to say, we don’t know what we are talking about. An argument or debate can never be settled if the opposing parties don’t really understand what they are saying and are not passionate about it. It’s a waste of time to argue about something you don’t really understand. We see this fact most prominent in politics. If politicians actually understood what they were talking about, the world would be a much better place. Instead, they just blab and blab idiotically.
