Although living in Florida all my life and never witnessing snow before, I traveled to many other states and countries, experiencing their environment and cultures. Yet, I traveled to all those places during the summer, which limited me to only understanding temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit.…
California Trip Ever since my mother had me she always talked about California and how she used to live there and how much she loved it there. She was always talking about going but we never got around to it. During my freshman year, about one week after the second quarter ending and over four years of planning, we decided to go.…
One day in Florida, two nine-year-old kids are playing in the park. The birds are chirping. The sun is shining. A dead body is rotting. The kids, Quentin Jacobson and Margo Roth Spiegelman, run home to tell their parents. Quentin wants to push the whole finding-a-dead-body thing from his mind, but Margo finds out the man killed himself and wonders why.…
One of the oldest questions in philosophy is whether humans have free will. When I look in retrospective, my journey to Miami makes me wonder is everything predetermined. Ever since I was a kid, I had vivid dreams about a sunny beach, soft golden sand, palm’s waterfall, and beautiful girl who will love me unconditionally.…
When I walked in the doors of our house, I looked to the left where our couch was and saw my parents sitting facing towards me with nervous faces. I set my bag on the ground next to the door, and I set my shoes next to my bag. I slowly turned around and walked towards the couch, hesitant to take a step forward. Part of me considered bolting--running for the door. Their faces were plastered with anxiety, and I tried to think of what I had done. Nothing clear came to mind. Once I finally sat down, I looked at my parents and said, “What's wrong?”…
Going into my senior year I still had the idea of, I can make it into a Florida school, I wanted to go to a Florida school to play baseball. So my senior year starting the baseball season with a new coach, I made my mind up, I’m going to work hard to stay in Florida and change my coaches mind. Through my senior year I was by far the best pitcher my ERA was under 1, I had 27 pick- offs in just one year. Also this year I was interviewed for being the hot shot of the week, an article in the newspaper. I was nominated for picking off 7 base runners in one game. I learned my pick off move from my coach in middle school before I knew my summer league coach. So I was still working with my summer league coach every once in a while at this point, but…
Once upon a time, there was a family that lived in a cabana on a deserted island in the Florida Keys The family was a family of four that had lived there since their plane crashed on their way back from vacation. The family had two kids and two parents’ the kids names were Tanner and Daniel and the parents’ names were Ethan and Clarissa. The family was unfamiliar with the territory but they happened to find shelter in the cabana and they fished for food and found a waterfall in the center of the island.…
I have lived all my life in sunny Florida. I have always been a little different. While most of my friends were playing basketball or baseball I was tinkering with electronics and repairing or improving any item that came my way. I learned a lot from my older brother, who taught me everything I know about computers and technology. When I was a sophomore in high school, my brother and I worked together to build my own gaming computer. I have had a passion to learn as much as I can, so that I can be the best that I can possibly be. I was bullied as a child for being different, but I knew that if I pushed on, I could achieve my…
The voices of the glistening blue sea will obliterate your stressful mind. When I felt like I was going through a midlife crisis, I grabbed my flip flops, swim trunks, tank top, sunscreen, and lounge chair; while heading towards the Pensacola Beach. A person will be amazed by what they see, hear, feel, smell, and taste at the beach. Although, tourist attractions in Pensacola are marvelous, they’re well-known for having refreshing seafood.…
I grew up in Titusville FL, a small town know for being the perfect viewing spot to watch the space shuttles launch from Cape Canaveral. The town was so small I could walk from one end to the other with in an hour. My favorite thing to do was to walk to a nearby lake and relax with with my friends, we would fish and climbed tree for…
My dad was the person that named me Brian. Knowing him, I was pretty lucky to get a normal name. I’m surprised that it wasn’t something strange or funny-sounding. My siblings have pretty normal names too. My brother is William and my sister is Jennifer. My middle name is Robert. It was given to me because it is my father’s name, and his middle name is his father’s name, and so on. I guess my parents wanted to keep the tradition. My last name is Guedes. It has run in the family for as long as I can remember. My last name is Cuban, just like everyone in my family. My parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, ect. are all fully Cuban and I’m proud of that.…
I exited the Interstate 95 ramp heading west towards Hollandale Beach Boulevard. I continued traveling west in the center lane as I drove over the rail road tracks another vehicle that exited the northbound ramp and tried to merge over into the center lane. Therefore, traffic was stop and go, I was already applying my brakes when I struck their vehicle on the driver’s side taillight and quarter panel. There is no damage to my vehicle.…
It was the summer before my freshman year of high school; my dad had plans to spend a week in the Bahamas for work. He decided that it would be a good opportunity to bring my older sister and me along with him and my mom. My dad has always felt it was important for me and my sister to experience different cultures and he would also plan for us to see lots of attractions after his work day was completed. The Bahamas was beautiful and more than I could ever imagine. The scenery, the art, and the food and people were all amazed and bemused me at the same time. Even after days of adventures the most memorable thing for me happened on our last day.…
On a cloudy Friday, at around 15:45 in the afternoon, me and Alexandra Theodorou headed to our field trip in Punta Culebra, located at the Causeway in Panama City. Very excited to find out what was expecting us in Punta Culebra, the first impression I got from that place was the nicest one. A very gentle guy attended us and told us that any doubts we had he could answer them and to not think twice before asking him for a favor. As I had never been there before, the first thing I asked him was that if he could please tell me where we could find the turtles, the small room with glass aquariums and the amphibian’s exhibition. He indicated us where were does three places located and then we headed that way. Punta Culebra was pretty empty on that…
My Childhood memory Every kid has there own special memory in their life that they always look back at and remember or constantly thinking about. Most kids in their life enjoy that for the rest of their life and tell everyone about because chances are it makes them very happy. This memory all started when it was a warm summer night and my dad came home saying he had a surprise and it was tickets to Hawaii. My whole family was extremely happy. It was the summer of 2010 when we left at 3:30 am to leave for Los Angeles International airport. It was summer so it wasn’t so cold. So my family and I got in the car and went. We arrived super early at the airport because we had to boarding time was at 6:30 and my dad always wants us to be there early just in case we have an emergency. So as soon as we got on the plane we ate a small breakfast that was actually good for airplane food. As soon as I got on the plane I fell asleep I was super tired and then my dad moved me so I awoke telling me that we be arriving in Hawaii in 15 min. I was super curious to see what it was like because I have always hard it was amazing sites and great weather. We landed and got out of the plane and headed to our cab driver that took us to the nicest hotel I have ever seen in my entire life. Waterfalls everywhere with people greeting you to the hotel giving you flowers and chocolates of all kind. This was just the beginning we walked into the huge hotel, checked in and had many people carrying our bags. We walked into our big hotel room set our bags down and then the people carrying our bags shut the doors. My family started asking my dad what we were going to do next while my family was having this conversation I walked over to the window open the curtains and there is a huge pool with massive water slides and huge wave pool. I knew my brother and sister would love to go to that same with my parents. So next thing I know I’m going down a big slide with my brother and were both…
