Personal Narrative: My Road Trip To California
21st century millennial’s a generation constantly distracted by technology will not come to appreciate the true wonders of the world. In fact most of our generation is set in an artificial way of living instead of experiencing the true beauty of nature and the change in landscapes that I observed on my road trip to California during the summer of 2015. Once I arrived at Santa Monica beach in California my perspective and experience of my surroundings only became more fascinating to me. All of my activities that involved my surroundings were performed without texting or using social media, only the admiring of the environment around me and simple picture taking for memories and future reminiscing. My mind was overwhelmed by the drastic change in surroundings I was experiencing. My delicate lips were being run-down by the dry and overwhelming heat of California. The sun was also constantly beating against my skin which gave it an amazing tan. Even though I was used to heat, I was not accustomed to such dry conditions that California had set for me. Yet the view that my eyes glazed upon was something I have never witnessed before. The clashing of the midnight blue waves against the grainy sand and the velvet sun …show more content…

Today, it appears to me like people don't exactly know how to do many things on their own. Getting from one place to another needs to be looked up on maps, because people cannot use their own sense of direction. Instead of calculating something simple in their head, they use the calculator that is conveniently in their pocket. Instead of enjoying the moment people are in,…

Going to Southern California, no one would think of packing an umbrella. Why would they? California is in the middle of a drought. When someone thinks of California, they think of baby blue skies and palm trees along the streets. But, of course, the weekend my family decided to visit Disneyland, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld is the weekend Southern California experienced what the local news called a “tropical depression.”…

This spring I spent two-weeks in New York visiting my daughter and her family. I spend a lot of time in the city, and I love it, not only because my daughter has chosen to create and raise a family in Brooklyn, but also because of its walkability. I’m not much of a shopper, but I do like to watch other shoppers, particularly those who dress as if they’d like to be watched.…

The summer of 2014, my family and I went to Ocean City for an overnight stay. We arrived in Ocean City and checked into our hotel rooms. Then, we drove down to the beach. We listen to music, snapped pictures and ate delicious food. My oldest son was playing football and Frisby with his cousin. I spent my time near the water playing in the sand. I wrote the word baby in the sand and took a picture laying beside it. Out of nowhere, it became windy. The umbrella flew away multiple times. The sand was blowing all over the place. We watch the sunset and left the beach. We stopped for dinner and went back to our hotel. I was four months pregnant in this picture.…

The sound of the ocean is a form of relaxation but for me, I like to call it home. Ventura is a small county located in the southern part of the California and for the past twenty-two years it has been my sanctuary. The other two years of my life I spent in a smaller town called Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. This was my birthplace and home to my parents until they made the decision of migrating directly to Ventura County. Within Irapuato City, there are small ranchos or ranches, located on the outskirts of town and at our rancho, we would raise pigs, goats, cows and, sheep. Surrounding our rancho there are acres of land, where we plant fruits and vegetables to consume and sell to our little community. Life in Mexico is much more rural than…

I grew up in Vietnam and accepted Vietnam education during my childhood. It was July 19, 2011 when my parents had the opportunity to come to America as immigrants. I have great appreciation for my grandparents and parents because they gave up everything to come to America. They did this to give their children a better life and education. I still remember the day that I left my country; it was a beautiful memory that I won’t ever forget. The plane took off at 5:00 am, so we had to arrive at the airport at 3:00 am. All of my family was there with us, we were hugging and crying. It took all my strength and courage to keep from crying that day; I had to control my feelings. I couldn’t cry because if I cried it would’ve been too hard to say goodbye. Finally, I couldn’t control my tears; they raced down…
