Personal Narrative: My Radio Broadcast Stories
My radio broadcast stories were based on versatility. I picked my stories based on what would grab the audience’s attention. My overall performance was most definitely great, but every good performer knows there is also some room for improvement whether it is a little thing or a big change that has to happen to improve the delivery of the speech.
My radio speech, I believe was one of the best ones. I feel this way because, I had interesting stories that grabbed the audience’s attention, I spoke with fluency and clarity, and I projected my voice for the audience to hear me. With the reading of my broadcast, I used enthusiasm in my voice. Speaking with enthusiasm keeps the audience engaged with what is being said. Without clarity, enthusiasm,

Now this is where I`m supposed to write “all about me”. This is where I become lost. I mean, come on. I wouldn`t know where to start. But I guess the best way to have an idea what makes me tick and what ticks me off is by checking my journal that i fill with endless ramblings about whatever and whoever catches my fleeting fancy or rage. :)…

Over the years I’ve witnessed to some gifted public speakers. People like Ted Kennedy (yes I’m met him a few times) who had a power and forcefulness to his voice that painted mental imagery so strong you would swear you can see his words. John Bingham from Runner Magazine, he had jokes, but could captivate his audience through a shared passion that made strangers feel like they knew each other. Retired Chief Terry Savoie who delivered a speak at an awards banquet with the slogan “life ain’t fair…win anyway”. All three of these people had one thing in common, a message. They had the ability to deliver a message to their audience. Their vision became yours. You could see the images they described like a paint hanging in a museum, beautiful and…

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s powerful voice during the ‘I have a dream” speech inspired many people to make a change. For example, during the speech his voice would get louder and quieter to show what was more important and what was almost just supporting the big idea. By using different voice levels he showed what was really important for the people to get out of the speech when his voice grew louder. This is useful because it helps the audience understand what they really need to take out of the speech. Also, during the speech he makes it clear that he wants to be up there giving the speech and no one forced him. This is an important skill to have because it helps the audience feel relaxed and more like they wanted to be there listening to…

Ronald Reagan’s Address to the Nation on the Challenger is a great example of good public speaking. Reagan uses great language throughout the speech and puts people in a better mood about a very tragic event in American history. Throughout the speech he addresses the majority of the population and thanks people who were involved in helping the space shuttle reach space. His use of all these elements is why I personally love this speech and think it is a great speech for anyone to…

The speech I selected was Susan Cain- The Power of Introverts. I think the speaker (Susan) was very professional, appealing, confident, and her tone of voice was perfect not too loud or not to low. The speech she was relating to the audience was about introverts and she also wrote a book about Introversion that actually took her seven years to write. She talks about her grandfather; being an introvert and how he could not see people in the eyes when he could talk to them even though he had been in the congregation for sixty- two years. The speaker actually speaks about different events in her life. It seems the audience is really focused on her and she receives a few applauses here and there. The audience is definitely engaged in what the speaker…

On November 20th, I attended Awesome Tapes from Africa at BAM Cafe in Brooklyn, NY. When I first arrived, the DJ, Brian Shimkovitz, hadn’t started his set yet so they were just playing regular music to pass the time. But I was shocked to see so many people had showed up just to see him. This was the first time I’ve heard of him and I was excited to see what he was going to play. As I was waiting for the show to start, I was expecting to see him walk in with guards or as soon as he walked in for everyone to ask for an autograph but I noticed that he was just walking around like he was also waiting for the show to start. He walked past me a couple times before I actually noticed and recognized him. From what I gathered from the BAM Cafe and…

My love for music began in middle school. At that time, I was socially awkward with very few friends. To compensate, I buried myself in music. My dedication led to many honors and admiration from my peers. However, when I got to high school, my relationship with music fundamentally changed. The arrival of an overly demanding teacher coupled with a long episode of depression robbed me of my passion to play. As time progressed, the pain I felt became too much to bear, and I became desperate for an outlet in which I could express myself positively. My quest led me to music once more, but classical was no longer the genre of choice. It was in hip hop and rap music that I found the will to overcome mental illness.…

My listening journal begins with hearing water splash onto the beach repeatedly, with sets louder splashes preceding smaller splashes until another set of louder splashes appears. With the water splashing in the background, I hear the sound of several engines passing by me, with some quieter and father away, and some louder, and much closer to me. The engine “buzzing” starts out quiet, then grows louder and louder until it starts to die out, until eventually I can only hear what is happening on the beach again. This includes the sound of dogs barking and children playing around me, sometimes startling me because they are so close. The buzzing of some insects also sneaks up on me because it happens at random intervals, in many different…

I also enjoyed the fact that Randy was himself and included humor instead of keeping his speech just informative and plain. The quirkiness and funny side of him made me connect with him through the computer screen and I was eager to hear more which I feel is important during a speech or a lecture. Randy also did a great job at speed and pauses. I feel that he gave the audience just enough time to take in information and comprehend before moving on to his next topic. One aspect of this speech that I enjoyed the most were Randy’s visual aid items. Everything had meaning and I enjoyed learning about the story behind each item. My favorite was the vest with arrow heads attached to the back which meant that people are always wishing negativity onto you, it’s your…

My fellow student Chris gave a well-organized and coherently structured speech that followed the guidelines imparted to us in our textbooks. The use of vivid connectives and transitional sentences enabled his speech to flow rather smoothly. Overall he was very successful in conveying his message on smartphones to the audience. Like many of my other classmates, the only problems I picked up on were not in content of the oratory but in rapidity and articulacy – two things than can be attributed to presentation-day jitters.…

Not just to have an ordinary speech, but one that grasps people and pulls them in all you need to have is persuasion also known as Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. Ethos refers to the speaker’s credibility. There are three important characteristics: character, competence and charisma. Logos is evidence that supports any claim the speaker makes in their speech. Pathos is known as a strong component of successful persuasion. Pathos is also when you appeal to the listeners’ emotions. Verbal communication is the exchange of meanings by the use of the written or spoken symbols of a language. Non verbal communication is includes any symbolic behavior that is either intentionally or unintentionally sent. I believe the speech “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” given By Dr. Martin Luther King is a great example of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos, verbal and non verbal communication. This speech, was giving on April 3, 1968 at the Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee, This was Martin Luther Kings last public appearance before his assassination the following day. “I’ve been to the mountaintop” was a strong and influential sermon.…
