Personal Narrative: My Personal Field Experience
I'm a middle age man who was born in Los Angeles, and developed the ability to interact with people on a social and personal level through my military career and world travel. I'm expecting the field placement to be really challenging as I will have to learn new skills in a field I have very little knowledge. Although I have a lot to learn, I think throughout the course I will able to overcome by use of life experience and intuition to guide me into making sound decisions. I love helping people to achieve however, I have two weaknesses that may cause me problems. One weakness is I have a hard time accepting my limitations. I think most task can be completed by persons with average ability. I consider myself at least average therefore I should

Often I find myself in denial about my abilities. I either overestimate myself or underestimate myself. Sometime I am too prideful to admit that I need help. I also worry that I will try to manipulate others to join my vision and my mission without being completely honest about all the negatives. I hate disappointing people, but I could avoid this with honestly.…

One of my huge weaknesses is low self-esteem and confidence (Bethel University, 2014). Having this as a poor skill in life makes a lot of the other skills hard to conquer. I think if I had a higher confidence level then maybe I wouldn’t struggle so much with public speaking, management of people and seeking support from others. I don’t give myself enough credit and I am hard on myself. Another weakness that I struggle with is the ability to focus on one thing at a time. I have struggled with this quality as far back as I can remember. My mind is always racing and trying to complete more than more thing at a time.…

Kathy, it appears you have gained valuable knowledge and learning experiences during your practicum internship thus far. Your review of goals and objectives are attributes that will facilitate further development of your leadership skills, how exciting! The insight that you provided through the nurse/physician communication and collaboration seminar was valuable knowledge for me to reflect upon in my leadership development. The remaining goals and objectives that you have outlined in order to meet the course concepts and finalization of practicum experience will provide additional attributes and skills to foster your journey in attaining leadership growth. The simulation lab sounds exciting and appears to have attained a positive collaboration with the right stakeholders to facilitate the evidence-based practice concepts needed to provide favorable educational guidance that is conducive to the organization’s educational goals.…

The abilities an individual possesses are an accumulation of their previous life experiences and the various competences which have been practiced for many years. Often times, these skills are overlooked and taken for granted as we never actually think about them in terms of their effect on our potential career choices. After thinking about my personal skills, I compiled a list which included; communication, cooperation, patience, listening, helping others and perseverance; all skills which I have possessed for majority of my lifetime and have used to overcome many challenges. One example in particular which required me to draw on many of these skills, was fairly recently; I am a dance instructor for children ages four to seven and there was a young boy who joined the class later than the rest of the students. I noticed that he was struggling…

The first week in field was definitely a learning experience for me, but it was also one of the best times that I have had with children. At the beginning of the week I was nervous, thinking about my first time working with children, whether or not the children would like me, and where I would fit into the classroom, now though I’m relieved at how well I feel about field. The first day was amazing, as soon as I got there the student teachers involved me with the kids and before I knew it I was reading stories on the ground. I’ve been writing in my journal every day after I leave field and I write one feeling to sum up the day; so far I have written relieved, happy, and smiley. While there were times throughout the week where I could feel myself…

As I was writing my personal narrative for my composition 1 class, it easily made my mind boggle. After I had got started on my personal narrative, it was easy for me to keep writing and keep following along the story line. The main strength of mine that the essay played to was my creativity and my flexibility for different writings, because I have never written an essay as serious and sad as this one, but I did have to add my happy ending when I finished the story. I wanted it to be very attention grabbing with a twist, but I also wanted it to be very emotional.…

My first week of fieldwork was awesome. One can think, we have seen it all. But there is always something new to learn and experience. My new facility is a hospital setting, Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. It is one of the biggest hospitals in southern West Virginia. What separates this facility from others is a psych ward. It is the only hospital in Southern West Virginia with psych facility. We see inpatient, acute, outpatient pediatric and psych patients. The combination of patients we see every day makes my setting different. The variety of patients during my first week included the 10-month-old baby with brachial plexus injury, an older adult with Slap repair, 16-year-old high school girl with the sports injury, 12 years old with…

Starting from a place I remembered as a teen, moving from a place that was warm to a place that had all four seasons; such as winter, spring, summer and fall. The First place that I grew up was surrounded by mountains. During the winter it was full of white snow, something that I was never used to seeing coming from California where all one would see was sandy beaches and the waves clasping one another. As I remember being so new to Park City, UT all I could see was the wonderful views of trees, mountains and people skiing or snowboarding. I have to say this was a fond memory because for the firs time I was actually able to experience the feeling of what winter was…

I have had to opportunity to engage in several group and individual sessions with Residents over the last several weeks. The individual sessions that I have had with my resident has thus far relied heavily on visiting, getting to know one another, and building trust; however, we have done a variety of activities along side that as well. The first session was simply an introductory session where I shared about myself, and sought to find out about her. The next session, we interacted with cards for a few minutes, looked through sale ads, read the newspaper, shared memories of farm life, and visited. The following session my resident and I put together a puzzle, shared memories, and visited. The most recent session, my resident and I played Go…
