RING RING! My phone went off after school got out. I looked at the caller ID and saw it said it was Anna Fetter. She quickly asked me if i wanted to go to crossfit with her that night to babysit and I was so excited I almost screamed out YES!!!!!…
At a normal summer camp, a few dozen fifteen-year-old girls wouldn’t be told to spend a night alone in the woods. Camp Cheerio isn’t a normal summer camp. I’ve been going to Camp Cheerio every summer since I was eight years old, and I’ve loved every second of being there. The summer before sophomore year of high school was the last year that I could be a camper. Part of being in your last year as a camper is doing CREW. The acronym “CREW” stands for Courage, Responsibility, Enthusiasm, and Worth. In CREW all of the last year campers do things such as team building, being a counselor for a day, hiking eleven miles to and from Stone Mountain, and more. However, the most significant part of CREW was doing Solo Night. During Solo Night, each…
The Olympic Games are a significant event not only in today's society but also in the lives of the ancient Greeks, with its origins stretching way back to the classical time. The Ancient Olympic Games were primarily a part of a religious festival that honoured Zeus, the father of the Greek gods and goddesses. They were an athletic event that was held every 4 years and began in the early 700 BC. The Ancient Olympic Games were held at Olympia, which is in the south-west of Greece, and involved a series of athletic competitions among representatives of the 10 city-states. The Olympics are said to have mythological origins, with many different myths claiming to be the cause of the games.…
For as long as I remember, I have been raised with a basketball hoop. This hoop stood firmly, looking down at the trees secured by patches of cement in my backyard, in my neighborhood, Dorchester. This hoop was my center of faith and tranquility surrounded by gunfires, shattering windows, car alarms. As a girl, I learned not to adventure any place else other than this hoop because going beyond its faded lines on the concrete is an unknown world full of hazards and danger. And when I did cross these seraphic lines, I could sense the bittersweet emotions running throughout the neighborhood, my home.…

The most memorable thing that happened to me was when I first discovered what I’m really good at. I came across inspiring Youtube videos of old classic Roller Derby and recent ones that were published only a year ago, I knew from the moment I laid eyes on those quads that I had to try it. In less than two weeks I was a complete natural at skating, I was all about skates. I practiced all the derby stances, exercises, techniques you name it I am absolutely in love with this sport. but as much as I fantasized about doing it I never thought that I’d actually get the chance to be part of their world and have training by the Derby Dames Juniors Freshmeat Association crew, which are ranked the top thirty-one in the united states!…
When you don’t feel well, you go to the doctors, and at the doctors, they tell you what's wrong. But what if they can't? For over three years, doctors haven't been able to find what my mysterious condition was.…
To express his believe about stretching one’s limit, the great Guy Finley had once stated, “The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.” Inspired by his quote, I, Giang Pham, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s Academic Pentathlon team. Based on my personal knowledge of Pentathlon, I have first-handedly experience the soul of a Pentathlete through various study sessions at Ethan Allen. Because of this, I have developed a deep insight of the components necessary to be a true Pentathlete. In addition to having first-hand experience, I also have extremely high expectations for both myself and other students, for it is essential in my academic growth. With this, one like myself could ultimately…
My freshman year, I decided to join my high school Cross Country team. When I started running, it quickly became clear that I was not a gifted athlete. I was slow and often did not enjoy the sport. When the season first started, it took me forty minutes to run a 5k. This time was appalling but oddly, it was what kept me from giving up. There were times when I wanted to quit and go back to never running but the thought of that forty-minute 5k stopped me from doing so. I stayed on the team and pushed myself harder and harder every day. When I felt like stopping, I made myself go even further. I came to practice every single day and sometimes I stayed late. On the days that we did not have practice as a team, I ran on my own. I was dedicated…
When I was in second grade I learned that I loved competing with people and being good at things. I joined a gymnastics gym near my house in second grade when i was 9, and started competing when i was 10. My mom told me that I have to do well in school if I was going to be focused on a sport along with school, or she would take me out of gymnastics. Soon enough, I wasn’t doing so well in social studies and comm skills. I was scared my mom would make me quit, But I worked as hard as I could so get back up there. Focusing more on school than outside activities, I got that grade back up and I continued with my favorite sport. I love gymnastics, but I don’t let it get in the way of school because school always comes first.…
Trepidation filled my head. Despite the negative 10 degree weather, sweat pooled in my gloves and rolled down my face. Thoughts raced through my mind; a wrong execution could mean death. 11 years of ski lessons had cultivated to this one moment. My life was on the line, yet a wave of excitement shook me. I took a look down at the jump that had come to dominate Joe’s backyard, replacing his childhood swing set. The jump was sizable, but not gargantuan. From previous hits I noticed its “poppy” lip - skier talk for a jump that sends you up rather than out - which is ideal for the trick I was about to attempt: a backflip.…
As far as I can remember I might have been about 4 or 5 at the time and my mother registered us I mean herself and me in a gym for ding exercises in different sport majors . My mother had aerobic class and I joined gymnastic class with other girls in my age and I had a nice dress for it with a pale pink color with an veil skirt. I had a friend there who her name is Mozhde and our characters were really far from each other . We were always fighting together because of her arrogance . Although I was totally kind and humble she was proud and rough.…
Ten years ago, my favorite pastime, and still to this day, is to run and compete in track and cross country. Back when my grade school had recess,my classmates and i would compete by running from one side of the field to the other mainly to see who happened to be the fastest of the classes but also to show the coaches what we were capable of doing so in a near future they could assign us a spot in the elementary track team. This is where my passion for running ignited. The adrenaline that rushed through my veins when i ran had a satisfying feeling, especially when i came out in the lead by a few meters. Ten years later, after winning countless cross country and track meets, that same feeling flows like a river as if the rivers were my veins.…
Have you ever thought where would you be if something never happened? The thought of that goes through my mind almost every day. What if I never decided to jump on the trampoline or go downstairs? Everything would change, I wouldn’t even have to be writing this essay at the moment. I went downstairs to the basement to watch my older brother get a haircut from our family friend until my little brother decided to go under the trampoline while I was jumping on it. When that happened without knowing he was under me I jumped casually until I heard a loud bang and something resisting me to jump high on the trampoline. It was my little brother's head, at first I thought it was funny until I saw blood gushing down his chin.…
We got this homework paper about our experiment and we didn’t finish it so she said it was homework. Then guess what the best think that I think ever has happened to me.
