Personal Narrative: My Nursing Career As A Nurse
I would have to say the most interesting aspects of the course were not the material, which I loved learning about everything we had learned about, but, the fact that I had to think like a nurse. I have not started my nursing career yet, just my public health one, but I loved the fact that this course made me think like a nurse. For the past 5 plus years I have had to think, prevention, intervention, community assessments and not think treatment or individual. It was good to be able to be able to combine the two fields of study, look at how to treat and prevent a health behavior from both perspectives will help me in my future career choices. One day I want to work in the medical field, I have not decided which way I want to go yet, either …show more content…
From what we learned in class a bit I know that technology is going to be a major role in global health within the next few years. But, technology can and will be a problem for global health as well. Having the best technology is kind of like a win lose, you need the advanced technology to save lives as diseases and viruses start to progress, but it is also going to cost you a fortune that you might not be able to afford thus you are left with the debt. So a great question to ask ourselves is will it truly be worth it, will putting people in debt be worth saving a life, or are there other options to consider, are there cheaper and other ways to fight these diseases. I honestly cannot answer this question, because I am unsure of what others think are risks are

My life has changed in that I am more stable financially, challenged more, and have more opportunities to advance in the career I have chosen.…

Health Ed. has been really easy because we have pretty much covered most of that units, even the CPR unit. I have also used what I have learned in this class outside of school mostly with my family because when they would not know what something means I would always be able to tell them what it means. I have also noticed that I understand what my doctors and more specifically what orthodontist is saying during my appointments. I will use what I have learned in this class to my advantage while in college and nursing school. If I could go back in time I would not want to change anything but I would tell my 9th grade self to relax and that I made the right choice, if not one of the best choices so far. I think five years after graduating from Wheeling I will be in the process of getting my registered nursing degree and after ten years I see myself having a nursing job and maybe working as a neonatal nurse if possible by then. In ten years a lot will be different about me but I see myself being in a good place. I really enjoyed being in this program and I am going to miss it, but I am excited that I am moving to CNA next…

As I said before I struggle with anxiety, but working as a nursing assistant pushed me to overcome some of the fears I had of communicating. I learned really quick when working in a nursing home you strongly need the ability to have good communication skills because without it you can’t communicate with the charge nurses, the residents or the other C.N.A’s. Everyday that I worked there I used different forms of communications such as body language which I learned says a lot about what a person is feeling.…

As I got out of my car and started walking to the front door, all I could do was admire this beautiful building that resembled a ranch-style home. When I walked through the front door, the smell of mashed potatoes, baked chicken breast, and wheat rolls filled my nose; it was as if I was walking into my own grandma’s house. In front of me there was a group of people; some in wheelchairs, some using walkers, and others on the couch shouting out answers to the latest crossword puzzles. Walking through these doors brought me to the realization that I was soon going to learn everything about each one of these people. This included how to specially care for and assist them with their everyday needs in this place that they call their home. I did not…

There I was laying on the field, during the second half of my football game, tossing and turning as I held my right shoulder in agonizing pain. I looked up only to see the trainer looking down at me with a concerned look. “What’s wrong?” he asked. Repeatedly I tapped my shoulder as I was struggling to get the words out. He helped me up and walked me back to the sideline. I waited for what seemed like hours for the game to end. A few days later, I went to a local doctor to get an X-ray. The doctor told me that there was nothing wrong and that the pain should subside in a couple of days, and it did. Later in the season as I went in for a tackle, I felt my shoulder pop. Immediately I was in pain and thought to myself, “ It happened again.” This…
