In my Sigma Chi career, the most contribution I've made is owning every position that I've held. Up until my term, no one had ever done anything with the positions of Tribune/Public Relations. In my tenure, I started a bi monthly alumni newsletter, and completely redesigned our website. We were able to better involve alumni in chapter operations as well as increased our web traffic six-fold. In Quaestor, I was able to redesign how we operated collections from brothers. With this we were able to utilize apps on phones for brothers to pay dues and other chapter expenses, this led to high collection rates and the ability to pay off a $8,100 RMF bill in one semester, all the while staying in budget constraints; this had never been done before.…

The extracurricular activity that had an influential impact on the plans for my future was the Future Farmers of America. While in this organization, I have received multiple experiences in operating in the greenhouse, commuting to a fish farm, memorizing facts about the organization. This organization started by giving me the opportunity to begin experiencing stuff outside of the normal classroom. This organization taught me to stand up for myself and it started teaching me that I can do anything I set my mind to, such as winning science fair to advance to the National Convention in Kentucky. In this organization that anything is possible if you put the effort into making it happen. I learned that the people help make the organization, but…

In high school, I have always earned a spot on the Honor Roll and participated in activities such as soccer, track, and PAWS (Student Ambassador). Also, I challenged myself when I attended the week-long Boundary Waters Canoe Trip. I learned many things there: I learned how to carry a heavy canoe on my own, built a tent to sleep in, carry heavy bags on my back and be independent. Throughout my 4 years in high school and my first 3 years in college, I volunteered at Feed My Starving Children.…

I began working at Keeter my first semester at College of the Ozarks. On my first day of work, the supervisor handed me a gleaming gold name tag that not only had my name but the state I came from. I watched as others put their nametags on, and I quickly discovered that most of them read Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. I looked down at my nametag and felt a sense of uniqueness, knowing no one in the room had the state of Virginia. I soon began to realize that my nametag sparked curiosity when the guests saw how far I had traveled. Guest after guest would ask the same question, “How did you end up here?” I answered this question dozens of times within a day. There were days that I would begrudgingly tell the Keeter guests my journey to this College, but never once did I fail to cherish the opportunity I was given.…

I was awarded a wonderful education at Windham High School, but beyond the information I retained, I also learned what is important in life. At first, I thought all that mattered was the clothes you wore, what makeup you had on, and who you were friends with. There is more to life than all that. I love helping others and my induction into the National Honor Society allowed me to do just that, especially in my four service projects I had the opportunity to lead and be a part of. I try to please people and make sure they are always happy and I now know it is most important to give back to the community who gave me so much.…

Throughout the past two years, I’ve received a considerable amount of academic awards and honors. Starting in seventh grade, I received a position on principal’s list for all four quarters in the year. This is one step higher than the honor roll, and is similar to the high honor roll. you have to maintain at least a 94 GPA in order to acquire this award. In addition to this, I also won 1st place in the STEM fair, and I qualified for the regional fair. Unfortunately, I did not receive any awards at the regional level, however it was a honor being able to attend. Eighth grade was similar to seventh. In the county I grew up in, it was a high school requirement to submit a senior project. This project would include a portfolio that must contain parental consent of the project, a mentor agreement, a three page research essay about your topic, eight to thirteen pictures of you performing the topic and a hour log sheet that must have 20 hours of senior project work documented. This is not even including the eight to ten minute presentation portion of the project. I was hoping by the time I was a senior I would not have to go through all the hoops and levies of a senior project. One can hope, I guess.…
