No one really thinks about putting themselves in other people’s shoes. You’d be amazed at the difference between your life and Richie Parker’s life, which is not that much different, but he learned to do things a different way. ESPN tells the story of Richie Parker with a short seven-minute video, he also happens to be one of the most successful engineers in Hendrick Motorsports. The sole purpose of this video is about Parker’s success and accomplishments throughout his everyday life, which casually questions the audience, “how do you get through your day?” His story can serve as an example to ESPN viewers, Carolina natives, and others, in hope that he serves as an inspiration that anything is possible. ESPN captures the reality that most people don’t think about, the reality no one ever wishes to live, but with Parker’s pride and confidence, he only happens to prove everyone wrong.…
Whenever I meet someone new, there will come a time where they ask me, what sport do I play. I'd say golf. But why do I play this most unusual sport. Well one of the reasons why I play is because of my main golfer Tiger Woods or in other words my hero. The three points I'll talk about today are: who is he, why him and what he has done to be the best.…
The narrative, The Driver’s Seat struck home for me because I just received my driver’s license this past May, 2015. I took time for me to actually drive and to become comfortable behind the wheel of a car. This piece of writing spoke to me and allowed me to review some of the identical thinking points that I went through while getting to the point of taking control of my dad’s car. The story effectively walked me through the trials of spirit and mental anguish that preceded me in taking hold of the vehicle with my dad as the co-pilot giving directions. This was the exact thing the driving instructor in The Driver’s Seat‘ taught the author. The routine of how to maneuver and throw caution to the wind- taking risks- to get the author over…
Loyalty is important quality to me and to my friends. I play for the Clearfield High baseball team I play with these guys and am with them most of the time. Getting to know them and what they are like as a person outside baseball, but at the same time I am the hardest on them than anyone of my other friends. I see the potential in them when they themselves lose sight of it. As much as I love winning, I care more about our team and how they play and it is important to know the guy to my left and the guy to my right will put in as much effort as I will to become better as a team and not as an individual. When my teammates have success I want rejoice with them. As being loyal to my baseball friends…
Starting the car with a bright smile on my face. Feeling absolutely confident. I released the hand brake and immediately hit the brakes in attempt to stop the car. My heartbeat began to increase as I started to think what I should do next. As the car stood in the middle of the road I visualized my dad driving the car. Taking three deep breaths I quickly released the brake again and pressed on the clutch and shifted to first. As I cruised in the neighborhood feeling proud I saw a hand in the air, as it got closer I realized it was my dad demanding me to park the car. Though my dad hammered me verbally for stealing the car while he was asleep, I had a smile on my face because that day I had learned how to drive a manual car.…
I was always afraid to play the position of quarterback on the football team. I am good at blocking and catching the ball, but when it comes to throwing the ball I get nervous.…
As I was waI stopped to take a breather as I was done finishing my last lap out of the 4 miles. I had called my mom to pick me up and ten minutes ago, but she was not here yet, I just assumed she was just running a little bit late. I can tell you standing outside in the flaming fiery sun, covered in sweat with no water bottle in hand is no fun.…
I shuffled across the field watching the running back take the ball running to the right side. I was the only one there to make the tackle Tyler and Kai both got blocked by Lineman and Landon got blocked by a receiver. I ran across the field, we both met at the pylon I only had to hit him out of bounds so I dove……. And I missed. As I fell to the ground my eyes were closed. I opened my eyes and I felt a sharp pain in my right elbow. It felt like my arm had split into 2. I looked over and I saw Landon.I said “ Landon go get the coaches I think I broke my arm.” I thought I had a broken arm. So he looked over at my arm and said “ Oh my gosh.” He started screaming for the coaches saying “Koen hurt his arm! Koen hurt his arm!” As Landon was getting them I was wondering what was going to happen to me. I was about to throw up, I…
I was sitting in my freshman geometry class, talking to some friends about injuries. We were talking about how none of us have ever gotten injured in our entire life. I had been playing sports since I was in the sixth grade, and nothing ever happened. In my life I had never broken a bone. I had never even sprained an ankle. I had never worn any kind of brace, taped an ankle, or talked to a trainer about any muscle issue or pain issue. When kids would lay on the court, I always thought they were fine or looking for a little attention. My thought was that they needed to rush off the court because they were dripping sweat all over the hardwood floor, and they were taking too much time up. I used to assume they were killing our momentum when they would fall down and cry because some schools…
When you don’t feel well, you go to the doctors, and at the doctors, they tell you what's wrong. But what if they can't? For over three years, doctors haven't been able to find what my mysterious condition was.…
In my family it’s just my father who works. My father work as a commercial truck driver. His loads for usually from Oregon, USA to BC, Canada. My father makes around $50,000 to $70,000 yearly. The income didn’t change the loads are still the same price since 2005, but the diesel and expressive of driving the truck did. Also the repairs of the truck has effect on the income. So the final income what my father is getting is decreeing slowly. My father said that trucker were making way more than what they do now. This explains why America is shortage of truck drivers. In 2013 there was 30k, in 2014, 38k, and last year 2015 was 48k shortage of truck drivers.…
I was speechless, couldn’t think, couldn’t feel. That night was like drowning in ice, with both the coldness of it and the numbing pain that was my thoughts. The only thing I knew was get in the car and wait. Wait for what seems like years. The car ride was like watching yourself slowly die. Every bump, every nook in the rode was nauseating. Watching the buildings pass by had a calming effect, like a stress ball. My mind was a formula 1 car… racing. I didn’t know if my thoughts would crash and stress me out even more but I’m glad they didn’t. Although the car ride was like driving with the devil by my side I made it to the hospital with my thoughts still going.…
When I was younger I didn't have much to do. Since my school gave me a deficient amount of homework, I would be bored most of the day. Then one Christmas my mom gave me a miniature remote controlled car. The car was a crimson sports car with charcoal flames running down either side. On the rear of the car was a pitch-dark spoiler with a red line streaming down the middle. There were small rubber spikes all over the tires built for traction. However, the main thing that made me love the car was that there were small lights in the spoiler. Some odd reason those lights made me attracted to the car. Now that i'm older I think it was probably because they were shiny. Without the car I would have hated 1st grade, but it kept me entertained for…
“Good Job!” I hear my dad say to me excitedly as I set the gear to park on the car “Thanks.” I say awkwardly awaiting the next course of action. It all started during the middle of Summer, my dad asked that since in one year I would be heading off to college if I wanted to learn how to drive stick shift so if i were ever put in a situation where I needed to know I wouldn’t be stranded somewhere, I excitedly agreed. So we decided that we would start practicing in chaffin’s school parking lot since it was close to our house. The car we drove was an old Ford truck with a burgundy color some of the paint was coming off to the…
