Another blood pressure and pulse is obtained a few hours later as it was still both high at 148/91 blood pressure and a heart rate of 100. When assessing her routine labs, there is no significant abnormalities noted. After presenting the data to the physician and the physician assesses the patient, it is concluded that M.S. has the medical diagnosis of stage 1 hypertension. According to ATI, stage 1 hypertension is a blood pressure reading of “systolic 140 to 159 mm Hg; diastolic 90 to 99 mm Hg” (ATI, RN Medical Surgical Nursing, pg.411). In the patient care plan, the priority nursing diagnosis is risk for decrease cardiac output related to increased vascular resistance. Another nursing diagnosis in the patients care plan is, knowledge deficit related to lack of knowledge of new diagnosis. In order to get her blood pressure and heart rate to go down, the physician ordered metoprolol…
Explain why this patient’s blood pressure was so low and her heart rate was so high upon arrival at the emergency room.…
I had some experiences, such as assisting in the transporting of individuals going on scheduled activities, helping them bath, dress, oral hygiene, toilet, feed and groom, ensuring the environment is free of safety hazards by correcting any hazards found and reporting them to the supervisor, observing persons served for signs and symptoms of disease, injury, reactions to medications, interacting them, and entertaining them by dancing and singing with them. I would like to serve this population as a medical doctor,…
Today was a Monday like the passed Clinical day. I wake up feeling anxious and with some fear of having to do something new, but that is how we learn to do everything so although I am a little scare, I am the first in line to do wathever we have to do to be a great profesional nurse in the future. My patient was a man of 68 years old who ws very good with me. He came to the Emergency room on november 2 because he was having fever of 102 F of unknown causes and weight loss of 17 lbs in 2 months.…
People have called me a mama’s boy all of my life. I freely admit that I still am a mama’s boy to this day, even though my mama has been dead for 17 years. I talk to her every day as if she were still here with me.…
I’ve been told the impact of a parent’s passing can carry on for years or forever. I was my mother’s primary care giver for two years. In her last four months, along with hospice, I took care of her full time along with maintaining my full time job. She passed in her home surrounded by me and my other two siblings in January. Just three months later my dad, who was not married to my mom, died unexpectedly in his sleep. I am still in the tender times of grief from my mother’s and father’s deaths. Who would think I could fathom writing about such a sorrowful time in addition to writing about the lessons I learned from my mother’s last months and the graceful way she left this earth. I relive this not only because it is kind of…
All of my aunts and uncles just showed up. Nobody has said anything about Teddy, so I am thinking that he is at the other hospital with Willow (pg63). When I walk in the hallway I see Kim (pg 63).I am so happy to see Kim, but her mother came with her. Kim’s mother is very emotional, Kim says it’s just being a drama queen. Kim finally couldn’t take her mother's crying any longer, she yells at her mother to get her to stop crying. After Kim’s outburst she leaves her mother in the waiting room while she walks around the hallways. When Kim yelled at her mom, it reminded me of when i became her friend. When we were younger we hated each other, now she is my best…
Suddenly, I woke to the sound of pain and stress. In the dimmed hotel room, my mother was laid roughly on the bed motioning that she didn’t feel well. We had traveled the far and exciting journey to Las Vegas to witness my mom finish a half marathon. It was an event that she had spent minutes, hours, days, and months training for. I couldn’t believe that after all of the work my mom had done in the past year, she wouldn’t be able to compete on the big day. I was wrong though when my mom sat up, tidied her tangled hair and nonchalantly said, “let’s do this”.…
Hello there. I assume you already know who I am. My foster mom is about to help me find my perfect forever home, and in spite of the long waiting list, she does have the opportunity to refer a friend.…
My mother’s parents would always share stories with us about how their parents came to America from Italy and Germany. They would bring out old photo albums and tell us all about how different life was for them and how they held on to family cooking recipes and every Christmas we make the same dishes that their parents would make. My father’s parents would also share stories about Ireland and my grandpa would talk about what he experienced when he was in the war. Unlike the family I interviewed, I was brought up in a Christian household. Every Sunday the whole family would attend church together and then go out to eat after to talk about what we had learned. We would also pray every night before bed and were always told to give thanks throughout the day for the life we have been blessed with.…
When I was in nursing school, I never thought about the dangers that lurk in the darkness, the things I…
As I got out of my car and started walking to the front door, all I could do was admire this beautiful building that resembled a ranch-style home. When I walked through the front door, the smell of mashed potatoes, baked chicken breast, and wheat rolls filled my nose; it was as if I was walking into my own grandma’s house. In front of me there was a group of people; some in wheelchairs, some using walkers, and others on the couch shouting out answers to the latest crossword puzzles. Walking through these doors brought me to the realization that I was soon going to learn everything about each one of these people. This included how to specially care for and assist them with their everyday needs in this place that they call their home. I did not…
While medical care was available growing up, there were financial or situational periods where it was not necessarily accessible. I am from a single parent family. My mother moved in with my grandparents after her divorce and works two full time jobs to help provide for my brother, grandparents, and I. Since my father went to jail and my grandfather passed, we have had to make many adjustments financially. This was the case due to my father not providing payments for child support for the time he was incarcerated nor occasional months prior. There has also been a complication with my mother and I having our identity stolen, which has created additional problems when applying for governmental aid throughout my undergraduate years. I worked…
When I was thinking about writing this journal post a particular experiences came into my head. I pushed it aside for the fact that it didn't fit the criteria for this journal. However, after struggling trying with writer's block, I gave in to my original thought. The experience I am going to be talking about doesn't fit the criteria of being a patient/nurse interaction because I wasn't with a “patient” or in a clinical setting.…
Due to my father’s affiliation with the Department of Defense, my childhood was mainly spent living overseas in the Kaiserslautern Military Community in Germany. I spent the majority of my time volunteering on the Medical Surgical floor at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a hospital where military members and their families frequented. One instrumental event that led to my decision to become a primary health care physician involved interacting with a particular patient.…
