Personal Narrative: My Love For Dance
Before I had turned four, I was dancing. I loved it from the moment I walked in for my first class at the age of three. That year I was one of the youngest girls at my dance studio. Now at the age of eleven, my love for dance continues. When I was four, I was part of my studio's recital. It was an honor for me. My other young and I friends danced to the lion sleeps tonight. Of course being four year olds, it was a lot of blindly wandering around the stage. My skill has greatly advanced from that day. Over the years I have performed jazz, ballet, tap, hip-hop,and contemporary. Between eight years and ______ costumes, my passion for dance has grown. Now in fifth grade at age eleven, I am taking four classes a week. Between 4 hours of dance, I play violin and clarinet. Right now I am taking ballet, contemporary, jazz, and hip-hop. I have been in jazz for seven years, ballet for 1, and contemporary and hip-hop for 2. My dance studio has two major performances. Recital, and hearts for hearts. Every year I have performed in recital, but only watched hearts for hearts. Recital is for everyone to perform and benefits our studio. Hearts for Hearts is a show my studio does in march that is only the older girls in company, and sends all the proceed to children's hospital. Every year my mom …show more content…
My main three are to be in hearts for hearts, be in company, and have pointe shoes. As I said before, I have been in hearts for hearts so that takes one thing off my list. Right when I thought it was impossible, I received amazing news. My jazz teacher, who was the studio owner, offer my jazz class a once in a lifetime opportunity. She said that she really liked this class and instead of auditioning for company we would get a spot guaranteed. She pointed out to us that with the classes we were taking, we would be in company by the fall 2017. This was one of the best moments in my life. Company is my dream and now it was coming suner than I had

As I was turning nine, my phase as a Spanish dancer soon took a shift to staring in dramatic radio shows.…

My most cherished possession on my fourth birthday was a crystal rhinestone silver bun cover. I would wear it and dance around the living room, arms and legs flailing about, pretending to be a graceful and beautiful ballerina. When I entered second grade my fascination for ballet turned to gymnastics. All my closest friends were taking gymnastics and would teach me walk-overs and cartwheels. My single mother was too poor to afford to pay for classes, so I would learn the movements at recess then practice them after school in the front of our apartments. We moved to a different city every year so stability and opportunity were not staples in my childhood. As I grew older the idea of ballet and gymnastics became childhood fantasies, never a reality.…

As my dance team stepped onto the pitch black stage we closed our eyes and took a deep breath. The curtains opened dramatically, then I saw the Dance professor from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and I froze, I couldn’t feel my legs and my palms were sweating. When I tried to swallow when my throat started to close up. The blinding lights came on and the crowd cheered. I suddenly felt comfortable, the stage was my safe haven from all of the Discomfort I once had. The music started and I smiled. I was ready to perform. This was the best day of my life, well that I thought at the time. I was the star of the show. My parents cheered, and my teacher smiled.…

The first experience of watching a ballet, for me or any little girl, can be fascinating and exhilarating. Wondering how a dancer can be so steady on her toes as she spins in circles and leaps through the air. Watching a ballet, there is a feeling of wanting to be graceful, as well as the warm sensation felt by a little girl as she slips into dream land. My mom had taken me to my first ballet when I was 11 years old. When we returned home home, she signed me up for classes at the local dance center. The expectations to become a prima ballerina would involve much hard work and concentration. I knew when I started it would take years of steady practice and commitment. Learning the history of ballet and the famous dancers made me intrigued. I wanted to be like them. So I had set the goal, then I set the pace. To my misfortune I was unable to reach my goal. Gymnastics was another activity I enjoyed. I was unaware of the damage I was doing to my body until I found myself in a hospital bed being told by the doctors, no more dancing. I could no longer practice ballet, I could only watch. I have no regrets. Watching a ballet is just as much fun.…

I had “caught the theater bug” and participated in over twenty shows over the next seven years. I took voice lessons and a few dance lessons here and there to work on my talent and prepare for upcoming auditions. There were times of excitement when my hard work paid off and I received the role I wanted, and there were tough times when I felt very prepared and didn’t get cast in the show at all, but I was not ready to give up and only worked harder to get ready for my next…

During this semester so far, I feel that I have grown not only to be a better dancer, but I have improved my performance quality in the classroom. As I am in my third semester of ballet II, I really want to focus on the things that I can perform better at. Although I do have goals for myself such as, fully completing a double pirouette on my left as well as a triple pirouette on my right, and strengthening my glute’s and hamstring more instead of gripping in my hip flexors and quadriceps when doing grande battements. Throughout the rest of the semester in ballet, I plan to fully put effort towards these goals so that I can improve and more forward.…

As time went on, I became more serious about ballet. It became my passion. Nights at the studio multiplied from one night to two to four. At the age of 10, I surpassed my sister, and became a level IV ballerina. She eventually quit, but my love for ballet went on. By the time I was 12, I was dancing with the highschoolers. I. Dance has always been something that fascinates me. Ever since I was a little girl, my dream was to become a prima ballerina. The way the dancers carried themselves with such grace and finesse in every movement was something I aspired to achieve someday. I began taking up dance when I was four years old at Hudson Valley Conservatory. There, I studied three different types of dance: tap, jazz, and ballet. Ballet, of course, being my favorite, was the one style I focused on the most but my performance capability was not quite there. My interest took a turn when I came to the realization that I am not capable of being as graceful as the ballerinas that I saw when I was younger.…

Ever since high school, my one and only dream is to become a professional dancer. I practiced hours every day after coming home from school, and it is without a doubt my strongest passion. It was not until my senior year however, until I realized how improbable my chances were of succeeding as a dancer due to the competitive nature of it. With this in mind, I finished my academic career in high school on a strong note, which was enough to get admitted into a business college in New York City. I am now a student studying in the library by day, and a street dancer dancing in the New York City by night.…

    My Interest in Music

My interest in music was well established at the age of 11 when I started to learn Harp. It all started one day during the music lesson in school, that I was impressed by this magnificent instrument and its reverberating, angelical sound. So I moved to first learn of the basic techniques and consequently deepen my study into the history and theory of Music, and afterwards joining a Harp Ensemble wanting to gain more experience playing the instrument. Since then, I got more opportunities to perform in front of an audience and motivating myself to continue to learn the techniques use to play harp. Among my most meaningful performances, I think the ‘Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation Little Heroes Sharing The Love Concert’ has been the most worthy one because this concert in particular had the objective of raising funds to provide medical help to poor people in Africa, that cannot afford medications. In this occasion I felt the matter was not just about playing in concert but through the power of music I got to instrumentally help a cause. Besides that, at the age of 14, I began to learn the piano, and since strengthen my techniques at stroking the cords, the fluency of movement in my fingers and the expression I conveyed in the piece. The biggest challenge that I had to overcome was the fact that I was often compared to other students that were younger than me and more skilled than I was because of having learned the instrument at a younger age. Even so, I did not let this factor take me down or my passion for music because everyone has a different way to interpret a melody. I must say that practicing consistently everyday has been my winning card when I reached to further improve my technique. I did not let criticism get to my nerve but instead I empowered myself in front of my competitors and I think I have achieved a better perspective about music and how to use it. In three occasions, I was asked to compose three songs using the program Sibelius, which…
