Personal Narrative: My Life On Oahu
My family and I had just landed on Oahu. The sight was one to behold. Beautiful grass-covered mountain ranges and a clear blue sky. We had seen the other islands of Hawaii leading up to Oahu like Maui and the Big Island but none of them were like this. When my family and I had gotten off the plane we were given lei’s to welcome us to what was a foreign place. We immediately got our luggage from the conveyor belt and a rental car, a 2016 Toyota Highlander that was as black as the night. The air and temperature of the island was straight out of the movies you’d seen about Hawaii. A perfect 82 degrees with a nice cool and crisp breeze to back it up. We could already tell that this vacation was going to be fantastic. Before finally arriving

As someone who has lived in Cumberland House, Saskatchewan and Terrace, British Columbia, this wasn't my first Pow Wow. I will say I don't remember going to any in Cumberland House as I was only two when we lived there, but I there are quite a few funny pictures of me, a chubby blond haired blue eyed baby in my pink jacket sitting among all the brown skinned, brown eyed, and black haired Native babies. I do however remember going to Pow Wows in Terrace. These two places are very different from each other, the Costal peoples having very different traditions from the Plains peoples.…

Back when I was a littlun, my daddy worked in the meat factory and mama stayed at home cleaning the house and making me my dinner. My parents wanted me to be a smarty, so they made me go to school. They also said I was a good singer, so I decided to join the boys choir. Me and my best bud Charles would go down to the river to skip rocks, but sometimes we would go play chicken on the railroad tracks. Sometimes daddy would say “Stephen, wanna come a huntin with me?” and I would tag along behind him while he hunted for pheasant. I never really listened to daddy’s rules, so he decided to send me off to some fancy boarding school. It was at this point in my life where everything started taking a turn for the worst.…

In high school, I have always earned a spot on the Honor Roll and participated in activities such as soccer, track, and PAWS (Student Ambassador). Also, I challenged myself when I attended the week-long Boundary Waters Canoe Trip. I learned many things there: I learned how to carry a heavy canoe on my own, built a tent to sleep in, carry heavy bags on my back and be independent. Throughout my 4 years in high school and my first 3 years in college, I volunteered at Feed My Starving Children.…

I have spent days in the Hawaiian Islands educating Hawaiians about Christianity and it is no vacation. I have grown taller from when you have last seen me, but I do look very different. My hair is now a light brown from the exposure of the scorching sun, my body has become frail and scrawny from the lack of food and nutrients on my journey, and my attitude towards events has changed and I am more aware and sensitive to my peers aboard the ship. I have suffered sea sickness and have witnessed many deaths while sailing to the island, either from the lack of food or health. Here in the Hawaiian islands isn’t all that bad though. I have met many friendly Hawaiians and we are slowly starting to understand each other. However, aside from the welcoming Hawaiians, the scenery is something that is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I could have spent my whole day here with my hands and feet engulfed into the grainy sand while watching the sparkling, blue…

The work on the plantations is very exhausting, and I wish I could move back to Shanghai in China. There are other ethnicities here like Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, but I usually talk with the other Chinese immigrants. Apparently, there is another language called Pidgin that everyone speaks so they can understand each other. How is everyone else doing over the past 10 years that I have been gone? I hope everything has been fine back in China.…

Born in Honolulu ,Hawaii on the island of Oahu, I lived there for two and a half years. At almost three years old I moved to a small town in the San Joaquin Valley; Hanford, California. I've grown up in a nice home in a well located area in Hanford. But growing up in Hanford I know only what I have seen here and learned about from inside the community. I didn't know much about Hawaii besides being born there and that my grandparents live there. But years later in the summer of 2014, I took a trip to back to the islands of Hawaii.…

The summer of 2014, my family and I went to Ocean City for an overnight stay. We arrived in Ocean City and checked into our hotel rooms. Then, we drove down to the beach. We listen to music, snapped pictures and ate delicious food. My oldest son was playing football and Frisby with his cousin. I spent my time near the water playing in the sand. I wrote the word baby in the sand and took a picture laying beside it. Out of nowhere, it became windy. The umbrella flew away multiple times. The sand was blowing all over the place. We watch the sunset and left the beach. We stopped for dinner and went back to our hotel. I was four months pregnant in this picture.…

I have been interested in architecture since I was about 12 years old. I remember staring outside of my living room window, and I would sketch everything in sight - my neighborhood, bright blue skies, and the amazing nature of Hawaii. I was born on October 2nd on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. I must say, that I am so fortunate be able to live in Hawaii because I have witnessed the growth that occurred on the islands as they develop urban areas and expand for their people. Over the past 10 years, there were areas that were previously untamed grass, that are now new suburban neighborhoods, or retail and commercial buildings. The way that the architecture complemented the surrounding environment of Hawaii is what really amazed me. I love…

Going to Alaska is an awesome experience for me. I went to Alaska during the summer of 2015 on a cruise for 2 weeks to explore the area. One of the stops was at Juneau. My family and I had waited for Juneau because we knew that we were going to go canoeing. Before we did the fun activities, we decided to go take a look at the city and to take a bus ride to an area around 12 miles out. We stopped at the launching point of the canoeing trip. I was very exhilarated as I always wanted to come to Alaska and go canoeing. The launching site was at Mendenhall Lake. This area was famous because of all the animals and Mendenhall Glacier. Many glaciers including Mendenhall are parts of the little ice age that happened around 3000 years ago.…

It's hard to not know anything about me because I'm pretty much an open book. But if I had to think of something that most people wouldn't know about me it would be that I was born and raised in Hilo. All my life I lived in Hilo up until my freshman year when I moved to Kona. Right now I'm currently a senior attending Konawaena High School. With that being said, I lived on the Kona side for about 4 years now. The main reason for me moving to this side was because both my parents have jobs out here. My dad, being a manager had already been working out on this side as well as on the Hilo side. My mom on the other hand, got a job promotion that had to be taken in Kona.…

I was 11. We were on vacation in Hawaii during spring break, on the island Maui to be exact. Kaanapali is a major populated city in Maui, and that’s where we were staying. We went to the beach past Whalers village which is in Lahaina, walking distance from the marriott we stay in. It was about 8:30 in the morning (Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone) (11:30 PST). And we decided to go snorkeling. And I was not very excited.…

He always said he wanted to go out with a bang, I didn’t realize that meant literally. I remember the sound of the gun piercing through the crisp night air then the thud that followed. I remember seeing his body lying still with that signature sly smile creeping from the corner of his mouth as if he had just told a joke. His eyes were closed, dark red blood pouring out his chest and mouth, staining his clothes, sinking into the sand of the beach around him. I remember the screaming ambulance taking his pale corpse away. I remember going back to the cabin up the road and getting out the Phrontistery, finding his note tucked away in the back cover. “Travel for me”, it said. “Goodbye, kid”, it said.…

I had always dreamed about going to Hawaii. It was the evening of April 1st, 2003 when my husband called me from his work and told me that we are going to Hawaii for one week in our holidays next month. I couldn't believe my ears what I just heard. I asked him again if he is not making it up, but he said he already purchased tickets online and made plans. On 10th May we departed Maryland and headed towards our first destination, The Big Island of Hawaii. As soon as we reached there after a long journey, I was stunned by the beautiful scenic views that I only saw in pictures. I was totally lost in the scenic views that I forgot to blink my eyes. We stayed in the 5-star hotel in front of the beach. Next day we hired a helicopter for a trip to see volcano. It was simply amazing. We stayed in The Big Island for 4 days, and then we went to the island of Maui for 4 days. We did so many activities which included Jet Ski, Scuba diving, Parasailing etc. We also watched the sunrise of Kalekala's summit, it was very romantic. At last one of the best things we did in Hawaii was to drive on the Hana Highway. It was the most amazing and spectacular experience of my life that I was stunned by God's creation of a heaven-like place on…
