Well I was born in Pueblo, Colorado; lived their for 10 years. Then we ended up moving to Yoder, Colorado; which we stayed their till I was 10. I had quite a lot of friends they're, my best friend would be Elizabeth Oatman. I met her in preschool, she didn’t do good on the slowly walking to the restroom. So when I went there; she would raise her hand to use the restroom, but would always take off running;but she attended to not turn; and she would always slam right into the wall. So one day she had to go, so be fore she took off running. I grabbed her hand and stood up, and walked her to the restroom. So from that day on we were best friends, well use to be; she’s now going through some stuff and, since i’m not there she’s just blocking me out. So in Yoder the weather was always amazing. My mom promised me, we wouldn’t move till I graduated high school. So i stayed in Joshua, through elementary, middle school, ninth grade. My sophomore and freshmen. Brown Elementary School in Grambling. Besides the drama with my parents, I enjoyed my childhood. Eventually, I started middle school at Grambling Middle Magnet School and for the next three years I played snare drum in the high school band. At this point of my life, things got kind of twisted. I started hanging out with the wrong crowd and as I carried over to high school, I tried a lot of different things. Some things were bad and some weren’t. My grades were slowly dropping until my father decided to take me out of Grambling High School and putting me into Cedar Creek School in Ruston. I transferred during the second semester of my sophomore year and attended there until graduation. I hated this school! I was around a lot of different people of many different races and I didn’t get along with a lot of them until my senior year. I was so happy when I graduated. It was a great feeling to be done with high school! As of now, I attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, where I will pursue a degree in…

Have you had any volunteer experiences and, if so, what did you like about participating? Give at least one example of what you liked. I have volunteered with Canterbury United Methodist Church on a mission trip and the Birmingham Zoo. When I volunteered with Canterbury, we went on a mission trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a week during the summer. I had the opportunity to travel to another city, in a different state, to help those who are less fortunate and live in harsh conditions. Seeing the harsh conditions that some people live in was very eye-opening for me because it really made me realize how fortunate, not only I, but the rest of my community is. I loved helping the people in Asheville because I knew that it is something they…

In my experience, I don’t think I am reluctant to a specific identity. Houston is a very diverse city that people can find almost any type of music genre. In my community there are Hispanic and African American families. The music that is heard is of all kinds from “R&B, Pop music, Reggae, to Cumbia, Bachata and Regional Mexicano.” I have lived in the same community ever since I was born and in my opinion, I have grown up listening to the different types of music genres. This has shaped my identity to be open to different music genres and traditions.…

In 1752 I was a seventeen year old destitute living in Scotland, Ireland. I had no real skill-trade or education, but with high ambitions to learn and become a collective dependant I would earn a stable lively-hood in one of the New World colonies. I suffered losses of loved who fell sick and died with only a few remaining that were as impoverished as myself. I feared there would be no prospect of a better life in Scotland and contracted myself as an indentured servant for passage to the New World colonies. Along with many others I boarded a New World merchant ship that specialized in the trade of textiles and clothing. In exchange for travel, food, and decent health, I was sold for profit to proprietors in the New World. The voyage to New…

The first memory I have of being with my Native American tribe, the Ojibwa tribe, is when I experienced a spiritual healing through a homemade sweat lodge. For the first time, I meet my aunt and cousins, and I cleansed and healed my spirit from its impurities with them. Inside the dome was pitch black except the glowing stones emanating stream and illuminating faces. This experience helped me to become understanding and accepting of cultures and traditions that appear different from…

The tapping on the wood door was enormous in the silence. Shocked out of my solitude, I pushed myself up from the couch and heaved open the door. Silhouetted against the light was a dark-haired woman with a girl clinging to her skirt. I knew who she was. My landlady had told me about the woman I had seen picking up mail at the post office. She'd called her "The Prize."…

Sundays to hang out and visit. On my mother’s side I have two uncles, one step-aunt, four cousins and one step-cousin who all live in Chicago. We visit there twice in the summer time and spend Christmas and the day after there. Growing up, I was fairly close to my family but as we get older, we become more distant because of our lives changing and going into different directions along with moving away but I still keep in close touch with some of my relatives. Growing up in the Dubuque community, I went to Eisenhower Elementary, Roosevelt Middle School and Senior High School where I made a lot of close relationships with people. I was involved in many sports including soccer, basketball, bowling and volleyball where I gained a lot of friendships and became aware of others. I was a part of travel hockey team so it led me to knowing others outside of my normal settings, I met people who I didn’t go to school with or lived in my neighborhood. Coming into college, I met a lot of different people with different backgrounds and learning about their lifestyles. Overall, I know that where I live, I have a great opportunity to receive support systems whether it being from my family, neighbors, school and businesses around me due to great support I receive from my community. For the multicultural and gender considerations part of my life includes that I am white, female and a…
