Personal Narrative: My Journey Into Cosmetology
Ever since I can remember, I have always loved doing hair and makeup. When I was a little girl, I always got into trouble because I would sneak into my mothers or old sister’s makeup and play around in it. Whenever I got into my preteen years, I began to start watching beauty gurus on Youtube. Any chance I got I would watch tons of videos on hair and makeup tutorials and practice it for myself. These beauty gurus that I watched over the years inspired me to go into the cosmetology field.

The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

I dedicated extra time into my passion for hair and acquired a part-time job at a local salon. I was soon able, to style any hair from just a glance of a photo. Family and friends began asking for my assistance on special occasions, such as; dates, proms, and graduations. My hair is force to be reckoned with. Its cascading fury flurries around everything, my shoulders, my back, the chair that catches it in its unwavering maw. It’s strong, it lasts through any torture I force upon it. It falls out in clumps and chunks when I tug and pull too much, but mom says that’s normal because my hair is so thick. I have the fullest head of hair in the family, she likes to tease. She’ll affectionately twirl it between her fingers and create little ringlets that fall down and tickle my chin because I didn’t pull it up into a messy ponytail.…

Depending on a person's mindset, I'd say there are many things someone could find unique about me. I could talk about how my foot is freakishly small, or about how my eyes change color according to my mood and level of tiredness. I could talk about how my hair curls in three different ways making it's own unique curl pattern, but I'm not. I, personally, think the most unique thing about me is the fact that I can draw just about anything in pen, better than most 12th graders without ever having a art class. Many people seem to think they're good at the things they love to do, but not everyone is correct majority of the time. Within the last three years, I've been invited to join a prestigious art group, accepted into one of the top art schools…

Prior to my interview with Bryce Dreager, I thought that the career in personal training seemed fun and something of my interest. Also, I thought it would be a career where I would at least need my bachelors in science for exercise and wellness. I would really love a job where I could be comfortable and love what I do at the same time and personal training sounded like the perfect fit. Most importantly, I made the assumption that I would have to learn a lot about personal training on my own to be really good at it.…

People always joke with me about my hair. Jokes about how I could tie blades at the end of my hair and whip it around like some kind of ninja warrior. It’s completely understandable to view two long braids as secret weapons of a trained assassin. I could probably use it as a weapon, if I wanted to. It was definitely long enough. Braided, my hair was a bit past my waist.…
