Personal Narrative: My Influence In Music
One of my influence’s in music is Kanye West. In my early teens, few of my family members would always listen to a lot of Jay-Z and Roc-A-Fella Records. I always like how the music sounded blasting through the speakers. I thought was amazing that a person can sample another song and flip it to make it another song. When I became 12 years old I always wanted to make my own beats with samples. I started reading and watching videos on how to make instrumentals. I also would find myself looking for the artist that was sampled and their entire catalog.

With sweat drenching their bodies and taking deep gulps for air, five young men sling their arms over each other’s shoulders and take their final bow. The crowd’s cheers erupt into shrieks and tears; for they have just witnessed the boy band One Direction perform live in concert. My screams too, can be heard throughout my house as I watch this video on YouTube vowing to myself that one day I will see One Direction in concert. I make this promise to myself, as my screams then morph into tears of joy and longing as the members of One Direction exit the stage.…

This was the time when I was just starting to figure out how everything worked and what creativity ment. I found I could express myself through a crayon and piece of paper. I was drawing everything that made me happy. My family was what I mostly drew at this point, because my happiness revolved around them. As I got further up the hill the track kept getting steeper, because I was learning about my creativity very fast. I even started drawing what made me sad, like my best friends getting mad at me or my dog passing away. I could tell my mom how I felt without saying…

As a little girl I wanted to be just like Hannah Montana. As I got older, I wanted to be like Rachel Berry, a small town girl living out a big town dream. I wanted to be looked up to because of my musical talent. Walking into Mrs. Kaiser's 7th hour, 8th grade band, I didn't know that music would have such an impact in my life. Music has become the spark of my intellectual curiosity. There are millions of combinations of key signatures, chords, melodies and rhythm in the world of music just waiting to become attached to a sheet of staff lines and spaces. Ever since my first experience with music in the fourth grade, my mind began to explore all these combinations of problems. Music helped me with math, english and gave me a place to escape when I was put into undesirable situations. In Middle…

A time I wish I had spoke up as a leader was a couple of months ago when a past concert band member wanted to be apart of marching band. This individual had not attended band camp, which is a requirement if you want to be in marching band. The individual had family issues which prevented him from attending. Once school started he went to the first football with us and played the show music during class. I thought there would be an exception due to his circumstances of not being able to attend. Later I found out that leadership and our band director would decide whether or not he would be included in our show. His drill spot had been written, now it was just if he was committed and be able to. I thought he deserved a chance, so I wanted to help him. I figured our band director would too. But at the same time, our…

Walking into the band room for the first time, the sound of every instrument being poorly played by fourth graders suffocated the room. The squeal of saxophones and blaring bass of tubas made it impossible to hear the instructions being given by the band director. However, none of that mattered to me. All I could do was to stare at the only thing in the room that was able to grasp my attention: a shiny, red drum set. I migrated to the back corner of the room where it sat unoccupied, took my place on the stool, picked up some sticks, and immediately felt at home. At that moment, it was clear to me that playing music was what I was meant to do.…

I had always loved music. My parents once told me I sang before I spoke, I played piano before I could ride a bike. I listened to everything from mariachi music to soft jazz. That was why I had always loved to play and related to my old piano teacher, Rachel, who felt the same as I did.…

My love for music began in middle school. At that time, I was socially awkward with very few friends. To compensate, I buried myself in music. My dedication led to many honors and admiration from my peers. However, when I got to high school, my relationship with music fundamentally changed. The arrival of an overly demanding teacher coupled with a long episode of depression robbed me of my passion to play. As time progressed, the pain I felt became too much to bear, and I became desperate for an outlet in which I could express myself positively. My quest led me to music once more, but classical was no longer the genre of choice. It was in hip hop and rap music that I found the will to overcome mental illness.…
