Personal Narrative: My High School Experience
Experience is the source of knowledge whether they're bad or good. It gives us confidence, courage, and strength. It is how life teaches us to love and forgive each other. In fact, experience is the worst teacher because it gives us the test before presenting the lesson.
My most difficult experience in life was in high school, or in fact high school it self was a difficult experience for me. When I look back to the past I think that people and learning environment was one of the reasons that made my high school learning experience a negative one. Everyone who wasn't with me treated me against me. People thought that being different is a problem but in reality I think being different is what really make us stand out. I have never cared about what people say about me, and most importantly I have never fought them back. Furthermore, some of them started to understand and personally apologized. They realized that they talked nonsenses about a definition of someone's personality that they never understood.

I remember once one of my teachers said to me " you can't change people, but you either accept who they are or start living without them." I learned not to let anyone effect me. I certainly think that my experience in life gives me strength and makes a better me today. Overall, high school experience has been a very challenging and confusing experience but helpful. It taught me many things academically and emotionally and now I feel confidence and ready for any obstacle I may face. My experience in life have shaped, defined my character and made me the mature person I am

The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

Something I regret was when I was in 8th grade, I wouldn’t try on my grades. I would never give effort in my classes. My parents would always have to warn me or caution me to try or else I’ll get something wrong or I’ll miss a homework grade or forget to study for a test. They were the foundation in my grades, I would have gotten C’s and B’s if it weren’t for my parents always bugging me to do it. Junior high was supposed to get you ready for high school, and I don’t know what I was thinking about not trying in 8th. We’ll see what happens in high school.…

Throughout my highschool career, I personally feel that I have maintained a high academic standing and success. I have kept around a 3.9 GPA throughout High School all while taking the majority of the DE Classes and almost every honors class. The summer before my eighth grade year, my parents and I made the decision to move me ahead in science. I took an online Earth and Space Science Course during my eighth grade year and it was honestly the best decision I have ever made. In ninth grade, I took Biology, in tenth grade, I took Chemistry 1, and in eleventh grade, I took Honors Dual Enrollment Chemistry Two.…

My parents had to act like adults at an early age. My dad was 14 when he moved out and into his first apartment, with my mom. Barely making it out of highschool college was out of the option. Starting from basically nothing it's hard to imagine riding on nothing for most of your teenage and young adult life. They didn't have a plan and certainly didn't think to start making one then. If they saw that a place was hiring they applied. if they found a place to get food and clothes at a lesser price then took what they could afford. They made the best out of what they had for a long time. This effects me in the way that I was taught that if I wanted something I had to go and get it and not expect it to be handed to me. If I wanted to make a new friend I was the one who had to put myself out there and say hi.…

Throughout my 4 years in high school I grow personally and academically. When I began high school, I was very shy and didn’t to anyone in class, not even ask my teacher if I had questions. Later on my second year, I began to talk and not be afraid of asking questions. Today, I talk, but not like other people who are very friendly and sociable. I also got better in subjects like the classes of English and Science.…

Most people might say that the first day of high school is a huge crossing, or maybe the one in college. However for me it wasn't a physical crossing that has had the most impact on me, it was more of a mental jump for me with several experiences leading to a realization. I wouldn't say I’ve had a hard life because I have no right to say something like that. However when I became a junior I came into the year a little low I had seen people doing unspeakable things to others. I mean just look at the news and you might see what kind of place we've made. This is the first experience that made me hate how things are. Second I had an accident during a football game which required that I have surgery on my knee. This made me realize…

The first time my best friend of four years told me that she would not be returning for our final two years of high school, I never dreamt that my life would become dramatically different. At the end of my sophomore year my best friend, who I refer to by her last name, Jones, because we have the same first name, told me that she was going to take the California High School Proficiency Examination in hopes of not having to complete junior and senior year of high school, and consequently start community college the following year. She said that high school was simply not meant for her and that she wanted a more significant amount of freedom and independence. At the time I thought the idea was a distant dream of hers that would never become a reality however, I was quite mistaken. When sophomore year concluded, and it was time for Jones to take the test I was left feeling exceedingly conflicted about my secret, selfish desire for her to fail, merely so I could still have her all to myself.…

:”You’re a hands on learner.” It wasn’t a revelation, just a reaffirmation. I sat on top of a desk in a room I didn’t think I would ever find myself back in- the yearbook room. A teacher who knew me well set down her red pen and was looking at me while talking, “I understand it’s been frustrating, but you know what you’ve done wrong and you’re going to improve. That’s what matters.”…
