Personal Narrative: My High School Admissions Essay
I have worked very hard in my high school to become an engaged student that preserves with hard work and dedication. I have achieved this in many different ways but one of my favorites has to be becoming president of a student club called Youth Action Network. Through this club I have been able to become closer to my community and have been given multiple opportunities to help the Tyrone community. With this experience being provided through my high school I might not have met some of the great people of Tyrone that I know today. This club truly gave me the chance to reach out and help others and bring us all closer together through a Safe-Trick-or-Treat night a 4-D movie night as well as many other events. Youth Action Network also taught me valuable skills such as, public speaking and leadership. I also took part in a mentoring program within our school. This gave me the opportunity to make connections with kids in the elementary school that might not always have someone to talk to. Being able to talk with them and give them to look forward to something throughout the week really made my high school career special. …show more content…
This organization was put together in hopes to make the school climate a better place. We worked to accomplish this goal by coming up with the motto “Be Golden”. On top of the many clubs that I was in I also balanced my class work load very well. I took three dual enrollment class, psychology, sociology, U.S. History as well as taking an Honors English course my senior year. I believe that I am a good candidate for this scholarship because throughout my high school career I have demonstrated that I am a very diligent student that accomplishes whatever is put in my

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

Along with being on the yearbook sales team I was also involved in Youth Court, a program in which first time juvenile offenders of minor crimes were given a second chance if they agreed to appear in front of a panel of Youth Court members, where we would decide what kind of community service they would do. I felt as if I was helping both these kids and my community a great deal, and I was heartbroken when my work schedule…

I was awarded a wonderful education at Windham High School, but beyond the information I retained, I also learned what is important in life. At first, I thought all that mattered was the clothes you wore, what makeup you had on, and who you were friends with. There is more to life than all that. I love helping others and my induction into the National Honor Society allowed me to do just that, especially in my four service projects I had the opportunity to lead and be a part of. I try to please people and make sure they are always happy and I now know it is most important to give back to the community who gave me so much.…

Being part of the Environmental Club I made sure to do whatever I could to promote environmental safety, how we could reduce the consumption of electricity and water. Knowing that our earth our home is being depleted of its natural resources it worries me that our future generations will not have a peaceful and beautiful environment. We also participated in Relay for Life where we promoted cancer awareness. With the recycle club we also encouraged people to recycle and distributed recycling binds around the school to all the staff members. The yearbook club allowed me to get to know my school better I would interview sports teams and create pages for them in the yearbook. In the Diversity club I was the Vice-President and our members promoted diversity within our school to help our school’s staff and students learn more about people’s different cultures and backgrounds. This required me to listen to others to let them know that I cared about what they were saying and how they felt. With the National Honors Society, I was able to help out with the Greensboro Interactive Resource Center, providing help for the less fortunate.…

There is not a single feeling greater than the one you experience when you make a positive impact on someone else’s life. Thankfully, I was able to experience that in my junior year. My high school has a program called Link Crew that is designed to help alleviate the anxiety of freshmen’s transition in to high school. When I signed up to get involved, I never realized how strongly it would affect not only my life, but also the life of everyone else who came in contact with it one way or another. Junior year was my first year involved in the program. At first, I was not sure if I would be able to handle it because it was a club that required a large time commitment. I was already involved in my advisory board, student council, and also I had been on the varsity softball team for both years prior to my junior year, along with working anywhere from three to five days a week. It was a very busy time in my life for a while, but I soon came to realize that Link Crew was completely worth it once I started seeing the effect it had on my school.…

Freshmen year, as high school was a new and exhilarating experience, I was ecstatic about throwing myself into all the different opportunities high school has to offer. I found myself reaching for a leadership role and became the President of the freshmen class. As the President of the freshmen class, I took on the responsibility of leading the Freshmen homecoming festivities (hall decorations, spirit chains, game advertisements, etc.), assisted in the Change Drive for cancer research, and worked continuously to be a model representative of my peers, to name a few. I also became a member of FFA which allowed me to spend time volunteering in my school’s greenhouse and help around…

The opportunity I got during the “Reach One Each One Scholar Program” at my local high school was incredible. The program was developed for students who did not meet the requirements for honor roll during a given marking period. Students who have a continuous record for obtaining honor roll can choose to select one of those individuals to help them improve their academic record to achieve honor roll the following marking period. I got to witness an individual strive for goals they would not have normally been able to achieve alone without the help of others supporting him. This is important to me because I strongly support leadership and teamwork. A leader is only as good as the trail he leaves behind on his followers. Everyone needs help at…

I chose to be a volunteer at this location because I truly love working with children. It was fun to relate and adapt to the many different personalities. The children that I worked with were from the ages of five to twelve. My career goal is to become a pediatric nurse. As a pediatric nurse it requires you to work closely with patients that are children. This experience of working with the children at the summer camp was a great opportunity for me. My participation in Student Government has taught me important leadership skills I will be able to carry with me throughout, not only my college career, but my nursing career. Sports has taught me that hard work, discipline, and teamwork will not only defeat any obstacle that comes my way, but with the help and encouragement of others, we can come together as one and get the job done. My extracurricular activities have taught me that with the aid of others anything is possible. Through my community service volunteering at a local housing company for the mentally disabled, I have seen first-hand what the impact one person can make on another’s life. Helping and mentoring the mentally disabled who can’t do some tasks on their own has touched my heart and changed the way I appreciate life in many different aspects. It just reminds me of how fortunate I am to be able to help other, despite the time it takes to do so.
