Personal Narrative: My Goal Of Becoming A Nurse
Financial needs are the most important thing when it comes to college. This scholarship would greatly impact my ability to pay for my future education. It would come in handy for books, living expense, and any other expense in which I will have. Other scholarships will also come in handy and although I have applied for several, I do not know at this time if I have been awarded any of the scholarships I have applied for. While in college I plan to work as a CNA to save money and to also get better knowledge for my goal of becoming a nurse. Throughout high school, I feel that I have gained a strong work ethic. Not only towards jobs that I have held but also towards my school work. I have worked at the Bedford Swimming Pool, which I have become …show more content…
I was given the opportunity to be a captain for the varsity golf team for three years, as well as a junior varsity captain for the volleyball team one year. I feel that I have great confidence, integrity, passion, and patience when it comes to activities that I have had a leadership role in. Being active in different activities at school has been a huge passion of mine. I have had a struggle with chronic pancreatitis since the age of nine, making it hard to be active in all of the extra curricular activities that I wish I could be active in. I have been apart of the golf team for three years, volleyball team one year, Business Professionals of America two years, student council two years, FCCLA three years, art club three years and many other activities throughout my four years of high school. These activities have given me tons of great knowledge to help with my future education at college. While not in school I have spent several hours doing volunteer activities. I have put most of my volunteer hours into the Taylor County Fair, but I have also helped with the Bedford Craft Fair, the high school blood drive, Bedford Dance Studio dance recitals, and the annual Easter egg hunt held by Across the Boarder Raid organization. I believe that by helping with these activities I have a better understanding of how much work goes into big events in our community, and I hope in the future that I am able to help with even more

My biggest community activity is for Special Olympics of New Jersey. My family and I attend many of the events for SONJ including the Summer Games. I started volunteering by working and playing with the athletes. The area we staffed was where the athletes came to take a break and play with carnival-like games. The ages ranged from little kids to adults. It was fun putting smiles on their faces when you told them they won! It showed me we aren’t any different than them. They still like to do sports and have fun. They love to win prizes as do we. They just have disabilities that make them special. Over all volunteering for SONJ is a fantastic experience and in my opinion every boy and…

I have decided to lean to nursing as a career for many reasons. The main reason i decided to turn to this field of work was feeling the need to help people in a way that my younger brother was helped when he was in out of hospitals. During this time i joined the voulanteer morton fire department to get a grasp and sense of working under pressure while remaining calm. Alot of the times i noticed ifyou are in a flusttered sense of mind it is best to leave the situation to someone who is more capable then end up causeing the situation to get much worse possibly causeing someone to get hurt or death. Later on when i began attending south plains i attended and became vice president of the star center student organization for a short period of time…

My mom taught me to live by the Golden Rule; do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I have lived by this rule all my life. I have never had a problem getting along with others and treating them with respect until I started my nursing career as an LPN. I started working at the local hospital, working night shift. I really enjoyed going into work, helping the patients with their needs. I enjoyed visiting with them and finding out what would make their stay better. Then one day the supervising nurse in charge of the floor took me aside and told me to stop visiting with the patients. I was thinking to myself okay there has got to be a good reason behind this. She told me the patients need their sleep and they don’t need me to visit with them and keep them awake.…

To elaborate, I volunteer through many clubs and organizations at various places. Usually on weekends, I volunteer at the St. Johns Hospital. Through National Honor Society, for which I serve as president, Key Club, Club Scrubs and the Interact Rotary International club, I have volunteered at the food bank, many school events, and at nursing homes. One example of helping people around me was as captain for this year’s Park Girls Varsity soccer team. In my role, I had to help motivate the team, and help to build and fuel team spirit – both things that I really enjoyed. In addition, I have also been focused on helping my community. A few years ago when my Dad and I took a trip to India, I was able to help out at a school that my grandfather had started and work with the students in their classes. This experience inspired me to find ways to give back here in several different ways, both big and small. In sixth grade, I ran to be a representative on the Park School Service Council. I have continued in this role for the past two years, and this year, I was elected by my classmates to be a co-Head. This fall, I led an effort where the school made placemats for the residents of the Pine Street Inn, a homeless shelter in Boston, for Thanksgiving. What I loved most about this effort was it allowed all the grades to be involved, and for kids to do something more hands-on rather than just give a donation. And while it was a small gesture, the Pine Street Inn staff shared that it had a meaningful…

I high school I was also very involved within my school and community. During my Sophomore year I founded and became president of the programming club for the remaining three years. This club was a huge success and has significantly prepared me for the work I have done as a TA at WIT. Over the summer of my Junior year I interned at BAE. Myself and a few other interns fixed up old computers for the community, we even got to keep one at the end. I was also heavily involved with my local church where I volunteered on a constant basis, helping out with blood drives, fund raising events, being a teaching assistant, and also a CCD teacher. As a supporter of renewable energies I was also a member of the green club for my Junior and Senior years.…

I had my second day of school nursing, and it was awesome; such a busy day. I got to assist with a semi emergency, where the child’s knee locked up and he wasn’t able to walk; he calls it “pancake knee”. I had the opportunity to recheck children that failed either or both parts of the hearing vision screening, as well as, got to be one of the main people to assess children that came in sick. Brenda allowed me to do the assessments as she knows I love the practice; practice makes perfect. Going back to the semi-emergency, where the child had “pancake knee”; I demonstrated developmentally appropriate care on this 3rd grader through this scary and painful experience. Brenda and I were called into class, which was extremely chaotic; this child…

This past spring and summer I spent my time while not in school volunteering at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. I am interested in pursuing a nursing major, so I was looking for any way I could get a feel for the life of a nurse, and ways that I could help out my community in the process. I was talking about my interest in nursing with a lady at my school one day, and she mentioned that her daughter had participated in this program at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and thoroughly enjoyed it. After looking into the program some, I immediately submitted an application to be able to join. I began volunteering there in March of 2015, and enjoyed every minute of it. While volunteering there, my role in the program was to bring patients and…

Hours after surgery, a nurse tries to assists me from the portable hospital bed into my assigned bed. Frustration comes over me; I stand from the bed and place myself where the nurse instructs me. That next morning, I realize how much I dislike hospitals, and my determination to leave increases. Every day is a new start, and each day brings new opportunity, I focus on healing and becoming stronger. Progression begins on taking walks as far down the hall as I can endure; although it hurts, I carry onward. Time is not my medicine, tenacity is. Longer walks around the hospital comes slowly and painfully. However, being able to walk normally eventually comes a week later, and I am able to dress and get myself ready all by myself. The day has finally…

Nursing is, by definition, “a profession or practice of providing care for the sick and infirm”. However, that is not everything. A nurse is a caregiver, a provider, a supporter, and a friend. A nurse is a mediator, working as the middleman between the family and physician. Not only do nurses physically help save the lives of their patients, but they also provide emotional support to the patient and the patient’s family. Being a nurse reaches far beyond the scope of simply administering medication and providing physical care; to me, a nurse is a life-saver.…
