Personal Narrative: My Four Week Of College
College is unfamiliar territory to individuals of my age. I have friends and family members who have been through it, yet everyone’s experience is completely diverse. Nevertheless, there is one statement that is habitually received amongst many when they talk about their college experience: “College is the best four years of your life, so be sure to make the most of it.” That is unerringly what I plan to accomplish with my four years at the University of Louisville. I want it to be memorable. The first step to constructing something is always the foundation. My freshman year will be the foundation for the continuation of my college education and experience. This year will be a clean state, an empty container, a fresh beginning. I have the opportunity to gratify it with whatever I desire in hopes of enriching my persona. My initial week of college, I will be presented with an amalgam of opportunities and organizations to become involved with varying from Greek life to intramural rugby to student government. I plan on going through the recruitment process in the fall to become a member of a sorority. A common misapprehension about joining a sorority is that you are purchasing your friends; conversely this is not the case. A sorority is a wonderful organization to get involved …show more content…
I plan on joining the Beta Alpha Psi organization within the business school. Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary accounting, finance, and computer information systems organization at the University of Louisville. This organization will help prepare you for the professional world along with preparing you for the CPA exam and giving you direct interaction with business professionals. While I am a part of this organization I am not only enriching myself during that time period, but also setting up my future and career

It comes a time in a women’s life where she should have decided to do all that she can do for herself, her community, and society as a whole. I desire to become a part of a society that was created to promote unity and friendship, design solutions to problems affecting our community, and encourage women to pursue higher education. The building blocks of this organization have not only captivated me, but they have also offered reassurance as to why I want to become successful. I have matured and realized that I want to become a member of one of the greatest sororities known to man, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.…

My desire to be an Alpha man strongly revolves around the fraternity’s aims, mission statement, and vision. These principles and values of Alpha are something that resonates deeply with how I try to develop myself as a man within an academic setting as well the local community. The fraternity itself set the standard for which other Black Greek fraternities and sororities would follow as being the first inter-collegiate fraternal organization established for African-Americans with the sole purpose of mutual uplift and support. There has never been a time when Alpha Phi Alpha fell short of producing men whose leadership and service to the community made an impact on the lives of African-Americans especially the youth. This is why Alpha Phi Alpha stood out to me in a…

I thought that this type of life wasn’t for me. My perspective changed when I met some of the talented, responsible, studious men of the organization, known as Phi Iota Alpha at SIU. I realized that this fraternity is a place where I belong. If I were to have honor to be accepted into this organization, I would hope to gain a range of leadership opportunities from events that are hosted. I’m looking to gain a networking and academic support system where I can have someone to guide me when I am on the wrong path. Most importantly, if I were to join Phi Iota Alpha, I’m looking to get a family/brotherhood because I admire how they’re unified amongst themselves and demonstrate this unity on campus. This brotherhood would allow me to share my culture with those that understand where I come from and will help me learn about the Hispanic community associated with Greek life and the campus. Thank you for considering me as a candidate, I think I can be a great asset to Phi Iota…

Throughout every college experience there are two sides to every story. The text made me realize, through vivid examples that I remember learning when I was younger, such as the gods and the giants, something that I have been told since I was young. That I have to always think twice before I think say or do anything.…

Part of the activities I enjoy are playing music; which can explain to people to learn more about Christ and how they can help serve others just as Christ would have done to them. Technology and video games have been a tremendous part of my life. My goal in college is to get into computer science and to learn how to design games and produce code. I can utilize the amount of the money that I earn and donate it to special organizations; for example, charity; and I can also donate the money to special places, for instance, churches, and consequently they can build a larger and improved church. For the past 3 years, I have been playing badminton and in just two years of playing badminton, I played so exceptionally well that my badminton coach moved…

My time at the community college was used to focus on building a strong academic foundation, specifically tutoring international students English every week as they tried to maneuver through their lives in the United States. I remember during one particular session, a Chinese exchange student told me that when she first arrived in Seattle, she was in a state of euphoria. However, her inability to communicate fluently with her peers hindered her from adapting to the customs in America. Consequently, it impeded her from making her own place in society. Another individual, who emigrated from Eritrea, confessed she was still unfamiliar with having additional resources at her fingertips. She grew up in an area where advanced technological tools,…

It was the morning of move in day. I said goodbye to my home and headed out. I passed the local shopping market and my high school where I enjoyed a fun four years. As I headed to Norman I realized I was leaving everything I had ever known. All my life has consisted of living in the same house, going to school with the same kids, and going to the same supermarkets and restaurants. While I’d like to say I have developed a good idea of the world around me by visiting so many cities around the United States, in reality the only world I’ve ever known is the same one I have spent my whole life in. I have loved growing up in Northwest Oklahoma City with the friends that have helped shaped me into who I am today, however I relished the opportunity…

It was the day that I was dreading all week. It was the day my brother was leaving for college. Since the day i was born me and my older brother have been really close. We liked the same things, hung out with the same people, and played on the same sports teams. We did everything together. As time went on nothing really changed even through high school we were still really close. The day he was leaving for college I was at my friends house and didn’t want to go home until the minute he was leaving. I didn’t want to see him until he left because i knew it was going to be hard for me to watch him leave so i figured if i didn’t see him until he said bye it wouldn’t be as bad. Another part of me also didn’t want to show him weakness, that i was…

I graduated the university in Korea eighteen years ago and worked in a company for seven years. However, while I lived just as a wife and a mom, I lost my confidence to achieve something and forgot dreams that I want to come true in my own life. Therefore, I was afraid of going back to a college and studying in English after deciding to be an occupational therapist. I remember the first day in Cypress College last year. The first class that I took was a math class. Since I had graduated the high school twenty years ago, I forgot many formulas and solving methods in math, so I suffered from a lack of confidence after enrolling the class. I was shaking with fear that the professor might ask me a question. However, I tried to believe and encourage…

Everyone I met at UC Davis agrees that the quarter has gone by really quickly. Before I entered UC Davis, my friends often joked about how the quarter system will be over in a blink of an eye, before you know it. I thought they were exaggerating, but in all actuality, now that I am almost done with my first quarter, I think by comparing the latter to a blink of an eye is underestimating just how fast the quarter has passed. Like most people, I classify myself as heir to the throne of procrastination. I slacked in the beginning of the quarter and ended up being overwhelmed by the amount of work I had to do to keep up in the end. I would suggest incoming freshman to plan a schedule before day 1 of their first quarter. Gather all your class schedules…

It was not-so-silent in the lab, as the usual hum of side conversations from my classmates not-so-diligently working filled the air. Professor Hankamp, my biology instructor, was returning graded midterms inconspicuously so as not to distract an already absent minded student body. The ambient noise began to crescendo as more and more students gazed upon their judgement scrawled in red ink. Joyous cries echoed throughout the classroom as students came to realize, to their surprise, that they had unexpectedly passed, albeit with the bare minimum. Others let out contented sighs as if their failure had somehow affirmed their self expectation or goal. And I was furious. Not because I had received an unfavorable grade, I can assure you that I did not. Rather, it was because others had, and their mediocrity sat well with them. All around me I heard something along the lines of “I don’t care, at least I passed.” Such audacious statements were like fuel to the fire that was my rage.…
