Personal Narrative: My First Youth In Government Program
In fourteen short years of life, I have accomplished a few things: starting a cheer team at my previous high school, playing several years of basketball, and having my bill pass in my first Youth in Government program. Sports have always been a staple part of my childhood and early adolescence; I have cheered for 3 years and played basketball for an additional 3 years. I have dedicated my time to cheer and basketball; the second, fourth, and sixth grades were devoted to basketball while the third, eighth, and ninth grades were devoted to cheer. This year is my sophomore year in high school and I became part of the Youth in Government program at my school. In cheer, I had to choreograph dances, teach cheers, and help manage the other cheerleaders.

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

When I started Unity High School I thought that we were going to get a lot of work from my classes, and that work was going to be extremely hard. I also thought that I wasn't going to have any free time to do anything because of that, but it turned out to be wrong because the teachers give us a good amount of work but its not really hard. I thought that making friends in Unity would be hard in a sort of way but it was quit easy because everyone else was trying to make friends too. When I first got to Unity I also thought that there was going to be a few school clubs, but there is a good amount of clubs that students can join if they want to join some type of club. I think as a person I have grown more since first coming to Unity because I…

I was so focused on the academic aspects of school my freshman and sophomore years’ that i wasn’t active in any of my school’s clubs or activities. I finally decided to get more involved my junior year and I joined nearly every club, participated in every activity, and even went to as many sports events as I could have. I currently am a six year member of the National Beta Club and have held the positions of Vice President of Fundraising and Senior Representative throughout my high school career. Not only am I a leader in the Beta Club, but I participate in the Trailblazer leadership program with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance and my school’s freshman mentor program. I also joined the TRIO Upward Bound program whose ACT prep helped me to obtain a 22 as my highest ACT score at the time allowing me acceptance into my school’s ACT top 20 Club. The Boys and Girls Club of America helps thousands of Americans each year as a daycare, escape from home, way to meet new friends or to eat a sustainable meal that they wouldn’t be able to get at home. Another way that the Boys and Girls Club benefits kids is by having organized sports where the players can develop competitiveness, teamwork and become coachable. As someone who volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club I am able to experience all of the good that goes on both within and outside of business hours. As I wrap up my high school career and go on to the next stage in my life I often find myself looking back at not only those who helped shaped me into the person I am today but also the extracurricular activities I participated in. The Boys and Girls Club is one thing that continually pops into my head with the activities I partook in as well as the children and adults alike, without these experiences I would not have devolved my love for basketball, been so willing to give back to the community, or have been showed the do’s and don’ts of parenting.…

As we entered the last week of practice, I wanted relish what I thought would be the last few moments of the season. The varsity head coach was present at the last day of practice, and I was surprised when he pulled me aside during a drill. He told me that he had noticed my success during the season, and he wanted me to join the varsity team; for the varsity team still had two weeks of practice left before the state tournament. I held in my excitement and accepted his offer.…

Ever since I was the Defensive Captain of the football team every little thing I did was noticed. With the coaches working in our school, we were constantly supervised and had certain privileges other students didn’t. Before every big game I wanted to relax and focus on the game ahead, but the entire school wanted to talk to you and ask questions about what you’re going to do. In a way I enjoyed this, the pressure to step up to the plate made me feel like I had a purpose for the school. I believed in myself and knew I was capable of meeting their expectations. Their satisfaction didn’t satisfy me in anyway but seeing my hard work and dedication pay off did. I cherished the moments when the announcer would scream my number on the field after a big play. These moments were immaculate in my eyes especially in front of the big crowds. One of the tragic incidents of my…

Christianity has always been apart of my life. My grandparents, parents and siblings are strong christians and always encouraged me to become one. When I was about four I was at a Christian camp that my family had always gone to and I decided then that I would give my life to Christ. But honestly at four years old I had only given my life to Christ because that's what everyone else did. Through my early teenage years I had lost my connection with Christ. There were so many difficult situations I was going through that Christ seemed so distant from me and what I needed. But turns out what I really needed was Christ. At the beginning of my sophomore year I began to go to Young Life, and what a difference Young Life made on my life. Young Life…

Joining the future business leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, becoming a youth leader at Christ Church, as well as many other volunteering activities helped me enrich my community, and make an impact in the world around me. Along with these organizations, I have played several sports in high school, in my junior and senior years I settled on my two favorite sports, track and field, and volleyball. Within these sports I have made friendships with my teammates I will never forget, and learned important lessons in humbleness when winning, and cohere with my friends when losing. By being a member of any sports teams at my high school, I regularly attended many of my school’s events, giving me the opportunity to develop relationships, and gain a tremendous sense of pride in my school. I am looking forward to bringing this same sense of pride to my college, and making many new friendships along the way. I learned over the course of my education to this point, that when I became more involved with these activities, my performance in the classroom increased alongside my…

Every day I wake up determined to do more than I did the day before. My past achievements include gaining leadership skills, being on a varsity sport, and learning outside of school. I have been in tennis for eight years and varsity for three years, where I have received two awards for most improved player. I was accepted into the program “Trees for Tomorrow” where I learned how to manage and use natural resources in a classroom and in field studies. I participated in a new sport, a cross country ski team, where it taught me skills and strengthened my mind set about myself. My early years of high school, I was part of the backstage crew for a play, performed at my high school. The theatrical plays were terrible, under equipped, with barely…

When I was younger I would have been described as shy and reserved. I was like an un-blossomed flower. My life has since changed drastically. Many opportunities came across me such as taking a cruise with family and business friends, being nominated to be a Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) 7170 member of 2015 at SUNY Oneonta, and being chosen to go to a National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) for Medicine in Boston 2015 at Babson College.…

after all of the hard work and energy I placed into cheer we didn't win… We didn't even place. Done with getting below standard grades and having a constant lack of sleep, I quit cheer for my Junior year only helping out with the football girls occasionally. When Senior year rolled around the football cheerleaders didn't have anyone to help them lead practices and learn dances so I would spend all of my free time with them, while at the same time going to cross country practice and running races every Saturday and then running over to the football field to cheer for a whole game. That was exhausting, but I was a senior so I wanted to have the best senior year possible. Basketball cheer came around and it was basically a repeat of sophomore year except we tried harder and focused more, we pulled through! We took regionals by a storm by getting the title of regionals champs and then went to state with confidence. We performed our dance did our cheer and hoped for the best… We got state champions! Oh but thats not it, we got grand champions. That basically means we won all of the devisions of cheer, and those are 1A, 2A, 3A (thats us), and 4A. I got onto the all cheer team (a team of the best cheerleaders from all of the school in Alaska) and the whole…

High School was a great experience. Not only did it teach me about Math, History and English, but it also taught me about choices and consequences. I had several close friends who did not get the same experience that I did. One of my friends had a rough start in life. At the end of our junior year she became pregnant with her first child. We started our senior year ready to celebrate our high school years coming to an end. She had so many plans for after high school. As the school year went on she expressed to me how her child father was being very supportive at first, but recently felt that he was no longer treating her the same.…
