Personal Narrative: My First Year Writing Requirements
As a transfer student going on the pre-med route, making sure that I’m on track to complete both my degree requirements and the prerequisites for medical school remains a constant challenge. My major in neuroscience is already course intensive and combined with my premed requirements, it becomes very hard to find space in my schedule to take classes in areas I would like to explore. Furthermore, since I’ll be going into my junior year without having yet completed my first year writing requirement, the need for summer classes is made ever more prevalent. Having said that, I would really like to take this summer to not only complete my first year writing requirement but also invest my time in one of the more difficult pre-medical courses such as biochemistry. In doing so, I will be able to allocate more of my effort into focusing on the educational process. Not to mention, …show more content…
My dad recently lost his job and with my mom paying for the college tuition of both me and my sister, financial resources in my family are spread thin. Being the first generation in my family to attend college also means that I have to shoot for the moon and beyond. It’s about justifying that my parent’s sacrifices were worth it, that the countless hours spent in a searing kitchen, that the shifts that dragged into the wee hours of the morning and that the choice to spend their hard earned money on my education were all for something better. As such, since I can’t work full time, I would really like to ease the financial burden that college education is taking on them. A scholarship from LSA will allow me to further not only my educational dreams, but the aspirations that my parents have for me. By taking these summer classes under a scholarship, I can not only put my parents at ease, but also dedicate the time to really hunker down and focus on getting better grades for medical

Freshman Composition has done so much for me academically. In previous years I have had to do little to no writing and even when we did there were no rules or writing process we had to follow. This class has built a great basis for me, towards my academic future. I do realize that I am far away from being even an average writer, but I enjoy and accept that challenge to myself on becoming a competent writer. Parts of my writing, that still need to work are my introductions and sentence fluency. While I believe that my strong suits are, that once I get past my obstacles of writing that I have the potential to write something that will make a difference, other than that all my skills are still very raw. I’ve learned many things during EN101, the…

I am writing this quick letter to introduce myself and tell you a bit about my accomplishments and aspirations as a writer. I won't say that writing is in my blood or my genes or anything like that, but I will say that I do have an insatiable urge to write. I cannot say, but I definitely feel that writing is a passion of mine that I greatly enjoy. It is an urge that can only be satisfied and, even then, only temporarily, by stringing words together into a narrative. Ultimately, I greatly enjoy writing, although I do not consider myself to be stellar at it; I would call it a passion more than anything else.…

During the past four years of attending Newark High School, working on MLA format was something teachers worked very hard on to teach students. Every essay written by each student had to be correctly written in MLA format or else you would fail a writing assignment. This has been taught since the start of Freshmen year of school. We did not just write essays in English. Students had to write essays in Math, Biology, Psychology, French, History, Government, and many more classes.…

I used to believe I was a good writer. Throughout my elementary school education, creative writing dominated curriculum which allowed my extremely creative mindset to thrive. In middle school, I developed an elitist mentality about my writing ability. Believing that I reached my academic peak, I felt no need to sharpen my writing skills, causing me to become close minded to critique or other writing styles. Upon entering high school, I still clung to the idea that I was the best, but after my first week of class, I realized how weak my writing skills were in contrast to those of other students. Now, I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and hope to have come far from my middle school self.…

My writing workshop experience as a freshman was successful, time devoting, and different. It is different from my past experiences in writing, because I had the opportunity to chose my own topic, and had most of the year to improve each of my pieces. I enjoyed the process, and thought it was very helpful to receive feedback from both my peers, family, and teacher. I had enough time to edit mistakes I missed the first time around,, and the chance to receive edits from others who had different perspectives and ideas on my pieces. Teacher conferences were the most effective, because Mr. Ferges was very honest, and not only showed me my grammatical weaknesses, but also my writing weaknesses in specific spots that needed improvement. My favorite…

My writing process has evolved since the beginning of the year. Looking back at my previous essays and writing assignments over the course of the semester, I can distinctively see a gradual improvement through the different pieces of writing. Even though the differences from my early works at the beginning of the semester might not be drastic, the small improvements are what positively impacted my writing style. From the beginning of class until now, I have discovered new strengths and weaknesses, redefined my writing process, and corrected mistakes from the essays along the way.…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…
