“Click, click, click” I stand up after buckling my snowboard bindings and glance out across the horizon. I see the deep blue’s of Lake Winnipesaukee and the cool icy blues over the scattered coves. I look ahead and realize that I am the last one to start down the fresh packed powder trail. Quickly I hop along to gain speed to catch up to my family.…

Every year we go to the lake and we play on the water. We tube on the lake. We play on the water. We just like to mess around. I just got my boater license and I can now drive the boat by myself. But I am too young to pull a tube behind the boat. I will have to be about 18 before I can. I would like to one day pull one of my family members on a tube. Another thing that I like to doing on the water is slalom. Most people do not know what that is, but it is fun. You are rising on one skee. It takes a long time to learn how to slalom. I have fun and I think you can too. You have to have balance and I think you would like goggles because a lot of water gets in your…

Dad said midnight and unless Darrell could fly, I was headed for real trouble. Darrell and I chose to go to county fair and like every cliché couple, we had it set to go at sundown in order to get the perfect Instagram post. Luminous pinks, yellows, and blues sparkled a mile out as we caught our exit to enter the fair grounds. Vibrations under our toes grew heavier and heavier as we got closer to the entrance and with a $12 stamp on our right hand we ventured out on running feet. We spent our night soaring high and low with dangling feet, carrying weightless bags of fluffy, crystallized sugar as heavy gusts of wind hosed us leaving the aroma of fresh, crisp funnel cakes. Captivated by parading aisles of games had us lose complete track of time.…

Have you had any volunteer experiences and, if so, what did you like about participating? Give at least one example of what you liked. I have volunteered with Canterbury United Methodist Church on a mission trip and the Birmingham Zoo. When I volunteered with Canterbury, we went on a mission trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a week during the summer. I had the opportunity to travel to another city, in a different state, to help those who are less fortunate and live in harsh conditions. Seeing the harsh conditions that some people live in was very eye-opening for me because it really made me realize how fortunate, not only I, but the rest of my community is. I loved helping the people in Asheville because I knew that it is something they…

In life everyone has heard words that just stick with them. The words that make you think twice about how you feel about certain situations. In 1752 I was a seventeen year old destitute living in Scotland, Ireland. I had no real skill-trade or education, but with high ambitions to learn and become a collective dependant I would earn a stable lively-hood in one of the New World colonies. I suffered losses of loved who fell sick and died with only a few remaining that were as impoverished as myself. I feared there would be no prospect of a better life in Scotland and contracted myself as an indentured servant for passage to the New World colonies. Along with many others I boarded a New World merchant ship that specialized in the trade of textiles and clothing. In exchange for travel, food, and decent health, I was sold for profit to proprietors in the New World. The voyage to New…

The community where I live is one of the oldest communities in El Paso, Texas and that community is best known here in El Paso as La Chihuahuita. My house in La Chihuahuita neighborhood is about a hundred years old and so are most of the houses that are located in La Chihuahuita area and that makes me think that the original owners of these houses probably saw Pancho Villa and other famous people from the Mexican Revolution. This neighborhood has too much history on it which makes it a very good neighborhood to leave on. La Chihuahuita is located near the international bridge Santa Fe and it is very common to see people coming and going in and out of Mexico and United States. I live in the Chihuahuita area since 2011 and from that year my life…

Then my father moved out of town and my mom, my sister and I moved to a two bedroom apartment in Dubuque. After two years of living there, my mom bought a house where we lived until just this summer. Sundays to hang out and visit. On my mother’s side I have two uncles, one step-aunt, four cousins and one step-cousin who all live in Chicago. We visit there twice in the summer time and spend Christmas and the day after there. Growing up, I was fairly close to my family but as we get older, we become more distant because of our lives changing and going into different directions along with moving away but I still keep in close touch with some of my relatives. Growing up in the Dubuque community, I went to Eisenhower Elementary, Roosevelt Middle School and Senior High School where I made a lot of close relationships with people. I was involved in many sports including soccer, basketball, bowling and volleyball where I gained a lot of friendships and became aware of others. I was a part of travel hockey team so it led me to knowing others outside of my normal settings, I met people who I didn’t go to school with or lived in my neighborhood. Coming into college, I met a lot of different people with different backgrounds and learning about their lifestyles. Overall, I know that where I live, I have a great opportunity to receive support systems whether it being from my family, neighbors, school and businesses around me due to great support I receive from my community. For the multicultural and gender considerations part of my life includes that I am white, female and a…

It’s terrifying all because this stupid lot a crossed the street that is full of trash that smells terrible all the time like something died. Most of the time I grab my Febreze and use the whole can but it only smells like roses for about an hour. So the next day I decided to do something about it because it was starting to drive my family crazy.…

We became friends quickly. As track season came around we grew closer…
