Personal Narrative: My First Lacrosse Team
The first game of the intramural season had hype behind it because part of the lacrosse team was playing another team full of lacrosse players. We started our warm ups more organized then I thought, when we did lay up lines and practiced pull up jump shots. One thing you should know about me and basketball is I take it extremely seriously. In fact in all sports I’m an intense competitor. The game started off pretty slow, because both teams weren’t shooting very well. We were down 5 to 2 when I hit a 3 pointer to tie the game 5 to 5. The game was intense, due to my lacrosse teammate Kyle Coats had his shooting sleeve on and was laying the ball up like it was no ones business. My team responded to every punch though and with the time running out in the …show more content…
Now the momentum was completely in my teams direction. We went on a 5 to 2 point run and with 1 minute left we had our first lead of the game by 1 point. The last minute was agonizing, because we didn’t even possess the ball for one minute. The opposing team kept shooting and shooting but none of their shoots would go in the hoop. Finally, in the final second of the game Kyle Coats drives hard to the hoop and misses. I gave the ref an ear full when she called a foul and gave him two foul shoots. Of course, he makes the first free throw with ease but the second one took a lucky bounce outside hope. Meaning that the game was going to overtime. Overtime was one 5 minute period winner takes all. I honestly couldn’t believe the even had overtime in intramural basketball. We drew first blood in overtime when Mike Tangredi made an easy lay up. Towards the end opposing player John Lane hit a long 2 pointer tying the game up. With a little bit more then a minute to go my teammate Joey Morath found me again in the corner for yet another 3 pointer. Unfortunately for the other team, they missed all there 3 pointers to tie the game and we took the win in

The anticipation of knowing whether we were going to be champions or not was very high as we played our hearts out on the court. Everything we'd practiced for was being put to the test in this one moment. It all came down to this last lay-up. Did we get the point? When I was eleven years old I played recreational basketball with a nearby playground called Susan Park. Me and my little brother both were involved in almost every sport they offered. My favorites were volleyball and basketball. Going to practice was the highlight of my day. I really put my heart into these sports. Our basketball team this particular year was undefeated. As a post player and shooting guard there was a lot of pressure on me to get the ball to the goal at any cost and that's ultimately what I did in every game. It was our championship game and the heat was on like never before. Recruiters from the All-Stars team were there to watch us and pick their favorites so the pressure was definitely on for the players who were looking to take it to the next level. The game starts and we're all basically in the warm-up stage of the game we'd score, they'd score, nothing too intense. All of a sudden we start getting into the climax of the game, only about five minutes left. We were only two points away from beating them and it was up to one person on our team to step up and go for the game winning lay-up, that person was me. There were a few seconds left of the game and we still had to get up the court and to the goal. As the referee blew the whistle my heart sank but I knew what I had to do. The ball was passed to me and with no hesitation I ran down the court as if I was the only person out there and went up for the lay-up like a pro and I made it! This was definitely the best day of my life. The crowd rushed towards me and picked me up just like in the movies, I felt like a star! After the crowd and everything calmed down and came to an end a recruiter from the all-star…

In 2015, I realized a long standing goal of playing on the varsity lacrosse team as a freshman. In fourth grade when I first started playing lacrosse, I had always dreamed of how far I could go. That dream of mine always stuck with me and it was my motivation to continually get better. When the coaches were separating the players to form the JV and varsity teams, they called my name to the varsity side. The only freshman to be called to the varsity side for the 2015 season. I had doubt and negativity on my shoulders from the returning players just a day before and now here they are congratulating me. They acted as if they were my friends only because they saw something in me that they never had nearly as much of. Talent. My goal had been reached,…

We waited in the gym for about 4 hours, then I got hungry. I walked through the dark hallway to use the vending machine. After I got my honey bun, I walked around to the field house to see if they posted the team. They did, 14 id numbers on one sheet of paper. I looked up and down the list multiple times looking for my id number and unfortunately it wasn’t on there. My heart was broken and I was so confused. I walked home teary-eyed and when I arrived home I cried my eyes out. After that I didn’t play basketball for a whole week, which I had never done. After that week I got back in the gym, and kept playing every day as usual. I went to all of their games because I loved the sport and I wanted to support my friends. After the season ended everything went back to normal, we kept going to the YMCA every day. Now school has ended and summer league starts. Coach put me on Jr. Varsity just too test my skills and the first game, it was the best game of my life. I dunked the ball on a fast break and I couldn’t miss. I was the star player and that showed coach I was better so he put me on varsity. All in all I am just saying never give up and work as hard as you can, it will pay…

Knowing coach was going to scold on the girls because they weren’t doing what he wanted them to do and tears still in my face and everyone still trying to mollify my feelings and alleviate my pain. I took in all the pain and my knee started to feel a lot better after doing some stretches. So when half time finished coach said he wanted the same 5 girls to go in. I immediately told him “Coach I’m good to go in!” After getting the okay from Doc that I was good to go in he subs me back in. I had so much determination to go back in and finish off the game. I was blocking the girls shots, causing some turnovers, rebounding every single ball that hit the backboard and scoring points. Playing the whole third and fourth quarter had me feeling like I was going to die from all the running back and forth but I knew the big win at the end would be worth it.…

“Beep…beep…beep…” yelled my alarm notifying me that it was finally time for me to raise out of bed. Even though it was only six o’clock in the morning, my mood instantly brightened when I looked at my phone calendar and instinctively remembered that today was my final first volleyball game of the season. Quickly, I stumbled out of bed to go brush my teeth and begin getting ready for what would end up being my last day of playing volleyball.…

I was extremely nervous despite the fact that everyone had told me I was going to make varsity since I had done so well at camp. There were about 23 people trying out for varsity and only 18 could make it and so I had a good chance at making the team but that still did not calm my nerves. Before we went out to the brand new turf field for tryouts I was psyching myself out and was doubting myself in all ways possible. My hands were shaking, I was sweating, all while listening to the calm chatter of everyone else echoing loudly in the locker room. “You can’t make varsity; the others are just too good” I was telling myself. During tryouts the pace was fast, the humidity was high, and our spirits were just as high. We had to do lots of ball work and ball skills on the first day and I was messing up completely at times. At one point I screamed out in utter anger because I just could not get my feet to do the correct things. I was so angry with myself because I knew I could do better than what I had done that day. I went home feeling utterly defeated but ready for the next day because there were two days of tryouts. The next day I felt absolutely great and I was doing everything right! I was passing every drill while receiving complements from my coaches. I felt great and as I was walking up the big, blue steps to the locker room, I knew that I had done great at…

The final seconds were counting down 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… “ We just lost”. We were all devastated. Our coach said it is okay and it was our fault for getting cocky. I didn't even realize that an action as small as that could affect other people. I felt my team's eyes sear through my skin because I did that. They probably felt like a basketball player that never plays in the actual game because he isn't good enough. My friend got put on another team a second after that. I then played with my teammates and they played like Michael Jordan. I was glad after the game that I got put with these people because they were good at basketball and I could always show my friend another time. Either way it was as fun as going to a real basketball game playing with them. Now I am pretty good friends with them and still know them to this…

    Lacrosse Experience Essay

Soaking in the warmth of the sun, the smell of freshly mowed grass, the serene rhythm of my cleats against the track, I knew I was back to my home away from home. The Lacrosse field has always been my oasis for many reasons; ones that my parents do not understand, but other collegial athletes or sports enthusiasts would. It is where I get to release my stress through exercise, and where I get to play the sport I love with the people I love. While going through my mental checklist of mouth guard, water, running shoes, sunscreen, and lastly my lacrosse stick, I come to the conclusion that I am full prepared and ready to “lax.” It is funny how as I walk up to the bench I see other freshman who resembled me on my first day. Confused, intimidated, and not knowing where to go, and what to think, I was not too long ago in the very same position. Thinking back that a year ago, it was at my first day of lacrosse practice, and I had no idea what was to happen on a division one-club team in college. Unlike last year, I now come to practice being prepared, and actually being the one leading practice with my friends and fellow teammates.…

Whenever I think back to highschool I am always reminded of the fun times I had playing sports. The friendships I built and diciplines I learned still affect my life today. Playing volleyball helped me learn good time management skills especially when I started playing for the local club team. The highschool team was demanding but when club season started that became your life. School, practice, homework, sleep was my weekday schedule. The weekend tournaments didn’t allow for much of a break either. A minimum of 4 matches and if you won the bracket, you could expect atleast 2 more. Putting in hard work and dedicating countless hours wasn’t all for nothing though.…

He took me out of the game for a "little while" so we could "save my energy for when we really need it." I saw right through his poor attempt at enthusiasm and encouragement. The whole team was furious at me for losing the ball. I was angry at myself because I was playing poorly and had earned the name of the team loser. After the time-out, several boys on the other team that had been laughing at me marched haughtily onto the court. From my perspective, they are so full of themselves. John mouthed to me, "This is how it's done." Brandon flashed a bitter smile. I tried not to just hand victory over to them, but it was very difficult not to be furious. Eventually, I found myself scowling at the…

It started out like any other day. I got out of bed and scrambled to get out the door after I took an extra hour in the shower. I hopped into a seat next to my best friend Erin. We talked for the ten minute ride before finally arriving at school. I sat down in homeroom waiting for the bell to ring. Brrriinnngggg! I rushed to Mrs. Gregory’s room for Lit. Everything was fine until gym class. I had forgotten my assignment notebook in Mrs. Saphir’s room so I ran back upstairs to get it from under my chair. As I started to walk back towards the locker room I heard the bell ring… late! I walked into the locker room hoping Mrs. Dennis wouldn’t notice my tardiness, but my locker is right next to her office. I quickly filled out a minor for before…

We took the photo, but there were so many people waiting for the speech, we were forced to the court. It was time for coach’s speech, and said, “ Great game guys it was up to the final stretch and thank you for all our parents who take time out of their lives to let their child commit in this activity.” I honestly didn’t pay attention to his speech this time until he called me up to talk to everyone. Actually coach did all the talking and I just stood and smiled. Coach said “the only reason we won this game is because of JC. It was a team effort but he showed he wanted it the most and proved if you believe you can do something, no one can stop you from achieving your goal.” Once he was through his speech, he dismissed our team. Even though I was a punching bag earlier today, I felt great that I was the star of the…
