Personal Narrative: My First Experience In American Football
We were down 5-2, first game of the season. There were 30 minutes left and Ethan was taking a corner kick against Reed City. I listened as our coach shouted to crash the net and Ethan howled to get open. I glanced around in an attempt to be aware of my surroundings, then I focused my attention back on Ethan. He stepped back, raised his hand, and let loose on the ball. The ball soared through the sky, heading straight for me, and that’s when it happened.
As we entered the gates to the field , I glanced around and noticed the field was relatively nice, so I figured it wouldn’t be too different from ours. As our team began to warm up, we noticed one of our 11 teammates was missing. Since it takes 11 players for a full team we were concerned. After the warmup, both teams lined up for the national anthem and to be announced. The crowd roared for both

Ethan and David were in the center circle with the ball. The referee blew his booming whistle again. David began the kickoff by passing the ball to Ethan. Our team rapidly advanced up the field, forcing a corner kick. As we set up for the kick I tasted the salty sweat trickling down my face and into my mouth. I heard Ethan shout to get open. He backed up and then ran forward and drilled the ball from the corner. I locked my focus on the ball; it was headed straight for me. I leaped into the air, as the rigid sphere made contact with my head. I jerked my head to the side and noticed the ball had missed the goal, but fortunately, Dawson was at the other end of the ball. He trapped the ball and sent it right back to me. From all around me I heard my teammates yell to shoot. I brought back my foot and launched the ball into the net.
It was the first game of the season, and I had just scored my first ever varsity goal. I came into the game, doubting my ability to contribute to the team, but my doubts faded as I knew could. I did something many graduated soccer players can’t say they have. I scored a

That meant a kick off. We were all tense. If they scored that could be the game. Their team's kicker kicked the ball to the right of Damien who dived and caught it. It was a Friday night in mid August 1991. I was a noseguard and middle linebacker on defense, depending on the play. I also played right guard on the offensive line. This is the story of a night that could of well ended any hope of being an athlete, on any level, from this point on. I will be telling the story from the defensive side of the ball, due to that is where I was playing when I had five vertebrae, slightly, separated.…

The gut-wrenching screech of the whistle shook my ear drums, numbed my chest, and crippled my legs. Prior to this, Pine Richland had kicked a field goal that gave them a three point lead with only seconds left. We had one play to win: a kickoff return to hopefully save not only our season, but to justify the twelve years I had devoted to this game. As the ball was hopping down the field, I stood there trying to stop my hands from frantically shaking. After what felt like an hour, I could finally feel the pigskin leather on my fingertips. I looked up to see the other team stampeding down the field straight for my head. I had to get rid of the ball. To my right, my sweat-soaked teammates had steam rising from the top of their heads and surrounding their bodies. As I threw the ball, the blurred roar of the crowd chilled my bones. I began to run and target an enemy to hit. Inches from me, a white jersey trailed only feet behind my ball-toting teammate; I was a heat-seeking missile and my target was getting warmer. Our bones crunched as our bodies collided. His mouthpiece, accompanied by saliva and mucus, flew from his mouth as his head jerked back from the blow. It was as that white jersey whimpered in pain…

“LET’S GO BOYS!!!! LET’S WIN THIS!!! BEAT THESE RAVENS!!!!!!” The crowd was screaming and chanting wildly as we began to run out of the locker rooms and onto the large football field. I lead them, raising my arms up and down to signal the crowd to get louder with their cheers. As I did this, I was also sprinting to the middle of the field through the large slit that was cut for my eyes. I turned back to the crowd in the stands, and the players ran around me, with smiles of their faces, to get to their positions and the bench. I started to jump and raise my arms, “ FROGGY!!! FROGGY!!! FROGGY!!!” They all chanted my name in union, some of them even had signs and horns! A large smile crept onto my face behind my large mascot mask, and I couldn’t…

It was a chilly Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium and the Kansas City Chiefs were playing the San Diego Chargers. The air smelled of hot dogs and sweat. My grandpa and I were sitting nine rows back on the 50 yard line, Chiefs’ side. There were punters, kickers, running backs, and wide receivers of both teams warming up on the field, and with kickoff nearing, my grandpa and I started getting anxious. With me being younger, I had just gotten done contemplating on whether or not to go to the game, or to go trick-or-treating. Although I missed out on Halloween, I will be forever thankful that I was able to attend the most exciting game I have ever been to.…
