Personal Narrative: My Father As A Firefighter
When I was a kid, my father was on the fire department. I was absolutely in love with the idea of firefighting. It’s all I wanted to be for Halloween (firefighter), and it’s all I wanted to spend my life doing. My father was my first hero. He told me all kinds of information on firefighting that normally people wouldn’t know unless that had that kind of connection with the fire department, or they did extra research. This has made my life and actions dealing with fire more intelligent. It even made the work I do easier. What work do I do? I followed in my father’s footsteps and became a firefighter.
Initially, I did help at the fire department when I was a little kid. I helped them do their Fill-The-Boot MDA fundraiser on Big Horn Avenue. I

The second organization that I had the opportunity to volunteer for is Goodwill Rescue mission. They created this organization in 1896. Under the leadership of Rev. Lawrence Sutherland, the purpose of the organization moved from being a struggling institution to one with a nationwide reputation. They shared the love of God in Christ by providing food, shelter, spiritual guidance and instruction for the poor and the homeless in Newark. According to Goodwill Rescue mission, they affiliate with helping the individuals directly rather than send them someplace else to fend for themselves. The program is also working with some of these individuals to get them back on their feet to fend for themselves. They have to go through programs if any of them…

Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…

When the average person thinks of being a firefighter, they usually imagine cute Dalmatian dogs, loud sirens, heavy clothes, huge water hoses, poles to slide down, and giant ladders. Firefighting is a more complex job than people think because it has many characteristics that we do not think of. Aspects such as the various types of technology used, the different tactics you see on a day to day basis, the physical abilities one must be capable of, and the types of equipment used. It takes both physical and mental strength to get through a day of saving lives and fighting fires. This paper discusses the topics that examine why there is more to being a fireman than just loud sirens and huge…

I second the fact that lately it has been very crazy. I agree with you about it being very easy to work with people around the world. Although I think that language could get in the way. I really look forward to going over seas to be able to get the experience. This is one thing that I really can’t wait to experience in the military.…

I didn’t know heartbreak until June 28, when my dad told me that he had stage 4 cancer. I didn’t know fear until August 13, when I found out that he would have to undergo radiation to combat a tumor in his brain. I didn’t know weariness until August 24, when everyone at school talked about how great their summer had been, and I had to lie and say that mine had been fine. I didn’t know how deep my love for my dad ran until June 29, when I wiped away my tears, stood a little straighter, and vowed to help him find little rays of light in even the worst days.…

Here are some examples of my service to my community. During my 8th grade year in Elena Christian Jr. High School, both my classmates and I, we decided to do a beach cleanup. We chose the beach across from Water Gut. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I volunteer and participate with the Junior Meteorology Club of Elena L. Christian Junior High School. I help with certain fundraisers such as; bake sales, car washes and collecting donations. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving person. I also volunteered at the Agriculture Fair of 2010. I was helping out the Virgin Islands Police Department booth, assisting the police cadets, police officers, lieutenants and as well as the commissioner. Both my mom and I, we donated funds for Haiti at the VIPD in Frederiksted.…

I used to go every summer to programs in the city parks and every morning we would clean the community for example going around the block picking up trash. For us it was a competition, since those who picked up the most trash would receive a price. During middle school I was also doing community service but not as much anymore since playing sports took most of my time. But once in a while I would volunteer for the Houston Food Bank, packing food packs for those in need. During high school I became the President of one of the organizations called The Humane Club. In this organizations, the other officers and I, would gather different students from the school and gave them community hours if they would go out with us and clean out the communities. We would all go out into the community and paint houses of people who were already old, we would cut their yards, and do any hard work they couldn’t do due to their…

My Father’s career in law enforcement practically ended in 1995. Responding to a 10-32 (suspect with a lethal weapon) his armored SUV speeds down a clear Central Avenue but in an instant, smashes into a car running a red light at 90 MPH. With debris and equipment scattered throughout an empty intersection, an officer down call goes out to all nearby units. My father survived the accident but the Taxi driver died immediately upon impact.…
