Personal Narrative: My Family Traditions
Two days before the wedding feast my family began to prepare for the big event. Family relatives arrived at my grandparent’s house with soft drinks and alcohol beverages. The woman began to gather all the dishware and pots ready. Meanwhile the man began to dig the underground oven. The day before the wedding the brooms family sends food to the bride’s family so the bride’s family can have a dinner feast with their guests. After dinner the bride’s sisters went to my grandparents house to decorate the house with white paper flower decorations. The day of the wedding there was fireworks all day and throughout the night. At the reception the mariachi began to play follow by the band. During the feast I danced to tropical dance music. I must say it was wonderful to live the experience of how a traditional wedding feast is celebrated. …show more content…
They have taught us to be courtesy and respectful especially to the elders. The elders are seen as valuable human beings. In my culture it’s the family’s responsibility to take care of the elders. When the elders can no longer take care of themselves their children tend to take them to their home to provide care for them. My grandparents currently live with one of their oldest daughter in Oregon. They often come to California to visit and they stayed with their youngest daughter. My grandparents speak fluent Spanish and the dialect Mixteco. My grandparents had a total of thirteen children which ten survived. My mom is the oldest of the ten siblings. For that reason my mother is more traditional than the rest of my aunts and uncles. My mom until this day continues to do the customs and has transmitted them to her own

Personal background starts off small, it changes and grows over time into something big, it grows into an identity. Walking down the hallway at school, seeing someone standing alone, my first instinct is to make conversation, compliment, or even just smile at him or her. This instinct came from someone once telling me an act so small could turn a person's entire life around. As a kid, reading encyclopedias about random topics, consumed my time. Many days were spent coming home to find an injured wild animal in my dad's arms waiting to be saved. My dad would sit outside and draw animals, trees, and anything else he saw. Nothing excited me more than trying to draw whatever my dad drew, and as good as he did. Any assignment that was handed to…

When asked to write about a childhood experience most people think of the time they lost their first tooth when they were 6, or about the time they started school when they were 5, however, I’m going to write about summer. It wasn’t just any summer it was the summer that I went to the lake with my Dad and Papa. I was about 4 and couldn’t be any more excited about what was going to happen…

I grew up in a Mexican household filled with family, love, and warm greetings. We had many traditions within our family. I didn’t always feel like I belonged sometimes or that I was missing something. It could have been that I don’t speak Spanish as well as the rest of my family does or maybe I haven’t visited Mexico as much as they have. The traditions and culture are what brought us close together. We had family get togethers what seemed like every weekend, In reality it is more like every month. They didn’t have to be very formal at all, events like birthdays, weddings, quinceañeras, Christmas, and other holidays are all things that bring families together. And we definitely went all out.…

My greatest influences are my parents and my brother. My brother suffered from Guillain- Barre Syndrome when he was eight. He lived in the hospital on an artificial ventilation for 97 days and later he had to continue physical therapy for at least ten years as he was completely paralyzed. My parents and my brother devoted their few years completely for his treatment. Today, my brother is a successful engineer working in the bay area. I learned that with dedication, determination and diligence we can achieve our dream in life…

I thought that the blacks from different parts of the world got along. I was in for a rude awakening. My family goes back to be an American every since colonization. I felt like an outsider in America an I’m a veteran. I experienced prejudice and stereo typing from both the men an the women. I t would pain me to see how other black Americans were treated. Most of the black americans families migrated from Mississippi, Alabama and the Carolins. The majority of the Islanders lived in their own commities like Mirramor, Little Hatti and…

Since I grew up in a family with an abusive father, my response to conflict differs from most people. My father resolved conflict by shouting, degrading, and often physically abusing the other person. My mother’s response to conflict was to try to settle a compromise or walk away until her own frustration was no longer there. I think based off the conflict responses I observed growing up, my responses are a mixture of my parents. When in an intense argument with someone, I attack their character and then silence them out. Family members play a big part in how we resolve conflicts, because a good portion of our lives begin by us spending time with and watching our relatives. We, as a society, adapt skills and mannerisms from those closest to…

My family environment has influenced me a lot especially when my siblings were born. I am the oldest out of five, so I'm always look up to. I always had to make a good example and never show that I was scared. When my mom and stepdad had to work, I would take care of them until they came back while getting my schoolwork and practicing my instrument done too. I never really had a chance to be a kid, I always had to be a mother to my siblings. I would always wish for more time in the day for myself, Although watching them grow up from when they were small and started school for the first time made up for that loss time. I live up to a quote, "Be the master of your future, not the slave of your problems." My senior year I had to stop being…

My mother’s parents would always share stories with us about how their parents came to America from Italy and Germany. They would bring out old photo albums and tell us all about how different life was for them and how they held on to family cooking recipes and every Christmas we make the same dishes that their parents would make. My father’s parents would also share stories about Ireland and my grandpa would talk about what he experienced when he was in the war. Unlike the family I interviewed, I was brought up in a Christian household. Every Sunday the whole family would attend church together and then go out to eat after to talk about what we had learned. We would also pray every night before bed and were always told to give thanks throughout the day for the life we have been blessed with.…

Ever since I was born, I was a military brat. Not knowing where to call home, or if any place could be home, I moved. I moved six times, four of those places were towns that nobody could think about. Germany, North Carolina, Alaska, North Carolina, Germany, and Alaska, yet no place to call home. May 22, 1999, my first day on this world; Kronach hospital had its first American baby in their hands, yet they acted like I was a different species. The only event I remember was when I was about one. While I was one, I grabbed everything in my reach, even a grill handle. As a baby, I did not know that the handle was moving, the grill top had smashed my thumb. Miami, Florida is a very diverse city and has a myriad of different cultures. It has been my home since the day I was born; however, my parents migrated here over twenty years ago from their native countries. My mom is from Honduras, and my dad is from Sri Lanka. Due to this, I am half Hispanic and half Asian. I attended North Miami Beach Sr High and graduated on June 6, 2016. This is my second semester as a Freshman at St. Thomas University. Other than focusing on my studies, I like to play video games. Video games and school work don't mix well so I have decided to leave my video games at home so I can prioritize my studies at school. Granted that I am overweight, I have decided that I would go to the gym more frequently and make healthier eating habits. Other than that, I wish to partake…
