Personal Narrative: My Experience Of Living In Hazardville
I cannot recall ever seeing minorities living in Hazardville other than one street that was off of mine. I lived on a street that was historical and had huge houses that were built in the early 1900’s, and the state representative lived on my street as well. I lived in a huge house that was over a hundred years old that at the time that I took for granted as a dumb kid that did not know how good I had it. The street off my street had smaller houses that were not as old as the houses on my street, and the street lead into a lumber yard at the end of the street. That street had some of the meanest kids I have ever met, and a few of the kids I met were black and also white. That street was like a street from T-ville that had lower income …show more content…
My high school also started having suicide issues and deaths over time. I personally went through a lot of hardships in my freshman year and dealt with bullying that made school hard to go too at times. In my tenths grade year the school started an all-day assembly called “Words Hurt.” The whole tenth grade class spent the majority of the day in the auditorium, and then we would divide into classrooms for group discussions. During the assembly videos of hate speech, and images from the holocaust were shown. In the back ground of my schooling in my town, the holocaust is a huge topic that is covered in middle and high school, and was taken very seriously. The assembly also had students that were on stage that told us their stories of being bullied, and their troubling home lives. Some of the kids were my friends, and I had no idea they had it so bad. I had one friend that was Muslim and was picked on ever since the 9/11 terrorist attacks happened. He was picked on and blamed for the attacks. I was enraged that he was being picked on over something he never even did or had any ties with. Another friend was on stage talking about all the times she attempted suicide and had trouble with everyday things including bullying. She is one of the smartest girls in school and her story along with others made me

Dad said midnight and unless Darrell could fly, I was headed for real trouble. Darrell and I chose to go to county fair and like every cliché couple, we had it set to go at sundown in order to get the perfect Instagram post. Luminous pinks, yellows, and blues sparkled a mile out as we caught our exit to enter the fair grounds. Vibrations under our toes grew heavier and heavier as we got closer to the entrance and with a $12 stamp on our right hand we ventured out on running feet. We spent our night soaring high and low with dangling feet, carrying weightless bags of fluffy, crystallized sugar as heavy gusts of wind hosed us leaving the aroma of fresh, crisp funnel cakes. Captivated by parading aisles of games had us lose complete track of time.…

Growing up near Detroit, I have personally seen the poor conditions and standards of life that some people are living in. Although I have completed many hours of volunteer work in an effort to improve the bad conditions in the city, I feel as if I have not done enough. Where you live defines who you are. This statement holds more truth than one may realize. Coming from a small, low income town, you see different aspects of life, and face many privations to reach your final destination. On our trip to Cedar Glen, I learned numerous things that will benefit me in the future and assist me in making crucial decisions. One of the things I learned is group dynamics and working with other people. My group participated in various activities, such as logs and marshmallows, which taught us that we shouldn’t just focus on ourselves when completing a task, but also everybody in our group. In both logs and marshmallows, our group made sure each person reached the other side instead of just themselves, which the reason why we accomplished the activity is that we worked together as a team. I also learned that in a group, there could be people who lead a task, maintain a group, or focus on themselves. In low ropes and high ropes, we learned…

In 1752 I was a seventeen year old destitute living in Scotland, Ireland. I had no real skill-trade or education, but with high ambitions to learn and become a collective dependant I would earn a stable lively-hood in one of the New World colonies. I suffered losses of loved who fell sick and died with only a few remaining that were as impoverished as myself. I feared there would be no prospect of a better life in Scotland and contracted myself as an indentured servant for passage to the New World colonies. Along with many others I boarded a New World merchant ship that specialized in the trade of textiles and clothing. In exchange for travel, food, and decent health, I was sold for profit to proprietors in the New World. The voyage to New…

In 2008, I moved to an apartment in Rockaway Park located in Far Rockaway. I’ll admit, the neighborhood was far from attractive when I first arrived. The rumor mills stirred up a storm suggesting that Far Rockaway was well… “Rough around the edges” for a lack of a better term. Working on Riker’s Island, most of our patients who reside in Queens often came from Far Rockaway, thereby confirming the rumors that the town was riddled with crime, infested with drugs and plagued with anything one might consider rebellious or unscrupulous were true. And on my first day, I got lost and winded up surrounded by… you guessed it, The Projects. That was enough to dither anyone from any potential Real Estate or, in my case, rental agreement – regardless how appealing the offer could be. So why did I agree to move there in spite of the distasteful first impression? Before I can answer that, allow me to dive into the demographic details and…

According to a research study produced by Yale University, bullying victims are two to nine times more likely, to consider suicide than non-bullied victims; resulting in suicide being the third leading cause of death among adolescents (Bulling & Suicide, 2015). Teenagers within Anoka-Hennepin school district were segregated from the collective school body in essence. Collectively, students, staff, teachers, and other faculty members were coerced to make “homosexuals” feel as if they did not belong. Students were allowed to physically as well as, emotionally abuse other students. These students were seen as non-conforming individuals whom voided societal norms. Through this essay and the works of Emile Durkheim,…
