Personal Narrative: My Experience As A Writer
I am a Writer
My experiences as a writer are like a roller coaster. Since I am a student, I have been writing essays and all kinds of texts for a long time. There are times where I have felt very accomplished and successful with my assignments and there are times where I have felt very frustrated and disappointed.
My earliest memory of writing is in kindergarten when I was learning how to trace letters. I had a book with animals that needed to go to the garden, and I had to trace their route. My love for this book allowed me to become very good in calligraphy in primary school.
The first downs of my writing roller coaster began in primary school with my first poem. I remember my struggle to finds word that rimmed. I was frustrated and

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…

My first clear memory of writing is at the young age of 5, before the first grade, when my mother took me to the five and dime store to purchase school supplies. We bought crayons, pencils, erasures, scissors and glue. We put it all in a white cigar box. We also picked up this red writing tablet that was thicker than most books I had ever seen. On the cover was this Big Indian Chief. I remember thinking, “Why did this chief have his picture on the front?” and “Could I buy it even if I wasn’t an Indian?” Well, I got to buy it without any problems and I was so excited as I carried out my wonderful treasures.…

The amount I have changed as a writer is unbelievable. The biggest change is that I no longer loathe writing a paper. I feel as though it comes more naturally than before, and I can now make complete sentences easier than ever before. Another thing that has changed is how quickly I can write a paragraph before I would struggle getting a cohesive thought on a page, but now writing a paragraph that relates all together in some way is easier. All of this brings me onto my next point.…

In all seriousness, my writing is garbage, but it some what improved the slightest bit because I had a professor who actually knows how to teach a English class and not give little hints on telling us if our paper was trash. Instead, we were told straight if it was a good paper or not and it has probably helped me improve the most. In High School, I was always told that my papers were “good,” thankfully I finally had a Professor who can give it to me straight and tell us how we can improve our writing. On all the RRs, RWL, and formal essays that I have written these past twelve weeks, I have gotten educational criticism that has helped my pathetic writing become less pathetic and somewhat college worthy writing.…

Every day is a new beginning for more creativity and learning opportunities for everything and anything. It’s in all of us and it may take a prolonged journey to find it. For many including myself, it took going through a hardship in life to realise what type of writing style I enjoyed. Even figuring out that I actually liked writing outside of school. This style was discovered through creating a few journals. I had transferred those journal like entries into classroom assignments that were due.…

During the past four years of attending Newark High School, working on MLA format was something teachers worked very hard on to teach students. Every essay written by each student had to be correctly written in MLA format or else you would fail a writing assignment. This has been taught since the start of Freshmen year of school. There was no way around this rule. From just graduating High School, I am very experienced with writing essays. In many different classes we had to write essays. We did not just write essays in English. Students had to write essays in Math, Biology, Psychology, French, History, Government, and many more classes.…

I used to believe I was a good writer. Throughout my elementary school education, creative writing dominated curriculum which allowed my extremely creative mindset to thrive. In middle school, I developed an elitist mentality about my writing ability. Believing that I reached my academic peak, I felt no need to sharpen my writing skills, causing me to become close minded to critique or other writing styles. Upon entering high school, I still clung to the idea that I was the best, but after my first week of class, I realized how weak my writing skills were in contrast to those of other students. Now, I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and hope to have come far from my middle school self.…

I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…

Throughout the year, my writing has had significant improvements, compared to where I began. First, I began this semester fairly confident in my writing abilities. I thought that I had a strong grasp on writing concepts that include: transition words, literary devices, proper grammar techniques, correct paper writing format. In contrast, I felt that I began the year with a weak vocabulary, which has always been one of my weaker areas, If I were to rank myself on day one of class, without knowing all of the material we were going to cover, I would rank my writing skills an eight out of ten.…

One thing that has shaped me to become the person writing to you today, is my level of determination to succeed. That probably sounds hollow, because everyone will say that, but let me explain my story. I am not a prideful person or a personal flag waver, so even telling this story is difficult. I cannot say what I am now without showing how I’ve been fighting my whole life to be able to call myself determined.…

So everything—my reading, writing, and other experiences— started with my birth on October 6, 1996; well okay, not really—it didn’t start with my birth. They, my reading and writing experiences, started with preschool, which is the same for most people. These two skills are an integral part of my life; I use them almost every day. However, that doesn’t mean I have to like both of them. I did not like reading very much then, writing even more so; essays and paragraphs and essays and some more essays were painful. My writing skills, to say the very least, were not very developed. As time passed, however, my views toward writing and reading began to change and my ability to write evolved. My reminiscing begins with preschool and there, my first encounter with writing.…
