Personal Narrative: My Experience As A Patrol Officer

On 12/31/2016, I, Dillon Dickerson, badge #155, was working as a Patrol Officer for the Wichita State University Police Department, in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. At approximately 0139 hours I was sitting in my patrol veichle in lot 19. I heard a noise which sounded like a car accident had just happened in the area. Officer Dorion #158 who was checking Marcus Welcome and Alumni radioed dispatch and advised he heard what sounded like shots fired. Officer Dorion advised they came from just to the north of his location. After hearing this I left lot 19 and headed towards 21st street on Mike Oatman Drive.

As I was coming to the stop light at Mike Oatman and 21st street I noticed two vehicles pulling into driveways and turning around. A silver in color vehicle turned into the first drive way on the east side of
I then checked Fountain street from 22nd street back to 21st street. I then went to check Phi DeltaTheta (fraterinity) parking lot. I went to the back of the fraternity and noticed 3 black males on the west side of the parking lot who started to run down bluff street. I notified dispatch of this and switched to North side to inform them of the people running. At 0149 hours WPD North side dispatch advised they received a call of a shooting at 2248 N Belmont. The calling party advised his friend was shot in the leg at this address.

North side dispatch advised over the air the possible suspect vehicle was a possible gold in color impala and red card involved. I asked our dispatcher if she could relay the vehicle information which I called in eariler to WPD northside dispatcher. Dispatch advised WPD of this information at 0152 hours. I made contact with WPD Sgt. Jason Cooley #2210 on 22nd street and advised him of the information I had on the vehicles and also the male subjects. I then checked the area of Vassar, Holyoke, and Fairmount up to 27th street with no luck locating these
