Personal Narrative: My Diet
I believe my diet is nutritionally adequate. I prepare fresh and healthier food at home and pack snacks from home too. Beside healthier food choice, packing snacks from home is inexpensive and save my time from traveling to any convenience store or fast food restaurants. I stay away from processed, frozen, and prepackaged foods. I make everything fresh and not frozen, but I travel two to three times to the store per week to buy fresh vegetables, fruits and other necessary stuffs.
Personally, I don't find any challenges. I’m very busy single mother, working full time and attending school full time. I work night shift and I use my break time to buy my groceries. If I have time which if I don’t have early morning class, I’ll cook before going

Now this is where I`m supposed to write “all about me”. This is where I become lost. I mean, come on. I wouldn`t know where to start. But I guess the best way to have an idea what makes me tick and what ticks me off is by checking my journal that i fill with endless ramblings about whatever and whoever catches my fleeting fancy or rage. :)…

I’ve been eating a lot of avocado lately. They’ve been on offer in the supermarket (though still excruciatingly expensive), so I’ve been buying about 4 at a time. Most of the time I just have them smooshed inside a pitta bread with some salt and pepper (like avocado toast but betterrrr because it stays nice and warm), but this time I decided to do something a bit more exciting. Just cut them into chunks, bread them, bake them, and voila – crunchy coating but soft and creamy inside…

In the reading “What You Eat Is Your Business” Radley Balko states “For decades now, America’s Healthcare system has been migrating toward socialism. Your well-being, shape, and condition have increasingly been deemed matters of “public health,” instead of matters of personal responsibility.” (467) which shows this writer’s view that it is a problem of discipline and a person’s own personal choice to be unhealthy. “That means freeing insurance companies to reward healthy lifestyles, and penalize poor ones. It means halting plans to further socialize medicine and health care. Congress should also increase access to medical and health savings accounts, which give consumers the option of rolling money reserved for health care into a retirement account.” (468-469) This would also indicate he wants the government to reward the good choices and healthy lifestyles of those who kept to a reasonable diet, further supporting his argument of personal responsibility in the matter.…

As a Chinese-American, my family expected me to help out at the restaurant while maintaining straight A's in school. But, it wasn't easy; every day, I would report to the restaurant after school and immediately start working. Inside the kitchen, I would pack all the orders into aluminum containers, place them into a brown bag, and insert packets of sauces and utensils. Burns and cuts were common due to the terrible and tearable aluminum containers. Outside at the front desk, I would answer the seemingly endless ringing phones. In many instances, customers had to wait either on the phone or at the front desk for me to find their orders on the computer, even after they showed me where it was on the menu. During lunch hours, the pressure was even…

In Defense of Food was quite shocking at first. In all honesty, it made me think I was going to die within the next week due to a heart attack triggered by all the junk I eat. Considering I myself indulge in processed cookies from the aisles of Stop and Shop, and steak tips that have been marinating in salt for two days, the film hit close to home. But in all honesty, I don’t eat that bad; in comparison to the Seventh-Day Adventists I do, but I think I’m doing alright.…

The first perspective is of a carnivore’s. The taste of meat is one of many things in life that you can’t just recreate and expect it to have the same taste as the original. It has a unique taste and texture that only the mastication of flesh in between your teeth can satisfy. The tenderness, juiciness, and taste is what leaves people wanting more. Speaking from my past love for meat those were all the reasons I was head over heels in love with it. Although after I learned what these poor creatures have to endure for me enjoy such a delicacy I became a vegetarian. Some meat eaters know about what goes on in factory farms and how their food is processed but they continue to enjoy their consumption of meat. Although it is a good source of protein…

One of the worse thing I have been through was my own foolish choice. I moved to Detroit to do food activism and make a permaculture homestead. I did not have wealthy family members to ask for help or a degree that would have gotten me a job. The soil was damaged enough that some areas you could only eat from raised gardens. It was not as advertised. It was like trying to do peace corps with no support system or even police. I ended up suicidal and starting myself because the food stamps office just laughed at me and told me to go back to Iowa.…

After completing my three day food intake in iProfile, I was given a closer examination at where my strengths and weaknesses lie in terms of my diet. Most of my protein came in the form of protein shakes, and meat, my carbohydrates were from waffles or the occasional potato, and my lipid intake is from the meat I eat. I noticed that I consume a lot of protein, a moderate amount of fat, and not enough carbohydrates. I feel in order to meet my DRI for carbohydrates I could add more whole grains like wheat bread, or brown rice and that may help. I do feel that most of the protein I ate are complete proteins since they came from meat and eggs, but I also supplement amino acids into my diet since I am so physically active and need the extra boost…

Before I was saved, I lived a very unhealthy lifestyle. Being the youngest in my family, I was constantly spoiled and protected. This led me to become a very prideful and ignorant child. I thought the world was great, my life was great, and I was great. Now I am not saying any of those things are not true, but my views changed quite a bit once I hit middle school. My sister had moved onto college at this point and I was alone to tackle middle school. I discovered a lot during those years but my biggest discovery was probably about my family. I learned that they weren’t the perfect figures I thought they were. My parents fought constantly and that left me devastated. On top of being spoiled and arrogant, I was also depressed.…

Throughout elementary school I was a shy individual. Consequently, I disliked my peers reading my literary work and I utterly despised class presentations. Yet in grade six, I was tasked with the assignment of composing an argumentative essay based the idea that “restaurants create obesity”. I had written a pro argument with various sub points including the proposition that restaurants encourage weight gain and subsequently diabetes. Even at my young age, I was very aware that my audience was my class mates, one of which had diabetes. I recall being so terrified that my essay would offend her and my classmates, that I nearly refused to present. Yet after arguing my points, I not only won the debate but my classmate with diabetes also approached me to say that she agree with me and that…
